  • common it;s funny!! mike leigh was robbed

  • I always got a little teary-eyed when he mentioned it was his daughter's birthday. One of the best gifts he could give her.

  • Camera fail at 1:15.

  • Well I'm glad that when the Coens finally won it was when they could win director together after the DGA finally took away that stupid rule that only one could be billed as director.

  • Awww that day was my 8th birthday as well...RIP My English Director!!!

  • Fargo and Shine are two of my favorite movies... and I like very much Milos Forman and Mike Leigh... but from the bottom of my heart I know that Anthony Minghella deserved that oscar so much.... great film

  • for me, one of the greatest films in movie-history. only a few other masterpieces can stay in this line like out of africa, the unbearable ligthness of being, a passage to india, doctor shivago, children of the olymp. the english patient has it all...rip anthony minghella. will we ever see films like this in the future?

  • A very great loss

  • Avery great loss

  • Anthony Minghella was a great director. I heard an interview with him back in the late 90's on NPR discussing The Talented Mr. Ripley, and he was very sharp. He had plenty left to give. RIP

  • wORST year for movies.

  • el paciente ingles es una hermosa obra de arte, una de las mas bellas peliculas, es una poesia.

  • 1:15-1:19 - The Camera is pointed in the wrong direction and a technical snafu has appeared on screen. This is supposed to be the Oscars!

  • The English Patient is the best movie ever. RIP Minghella.

  • lol Joel Coen's reaction

  • Arguably the least interesting director won for the least interesting film.

  • RIP Minghella!

  • RIP Minghella

  • who can tell me what's background music at 0: 20-0:43??

  • who can tell me what's background music at 0:21?

  • mel gibson looked good....

  • what happen to mel gibson look at him then and look at him now he hasn't been the same since his dui

  • @ahceda09 He's aged badly due to stress.

  • @ahceda09 blame his batshit crazy ex-girlfriend for that

  • One of the Best films EVER...ENGLISH PATIENT IS A MASTER PIECE....a film that would be remembered for years...

  • It's really nice to see people that prefer Fargo to English Patient yet still acknowledge that Minghella's direction was unparalleled that year. As for me, I'll always love Fargo a little bit more, but English Patient is an incredible film, and I love them both dearly, and the English Patient/Fargo win is no where near as dramatic or undeserving as the How Green Was My Valley/Citizen Kane or Crash/Brokeback Mountain episodes.

    RIP Minghella.

  • we love u mel gebson

  • Why the hell do all the the good ones have to go?!?!?!?!?!

  • I miss your genius, Anthony Minghella.

  • what a great speech

  • thank you anthony. this film lives in me every single day. this is one of those rare films like the graduate or gosford park that are perfect to me. i had many favorite films...but i truly believe this one tops my list. i know a lot of people think it's overrated or that it's just a ball of mush, but to me, it's perfect.

  • Coen brothers were robbed. History will remember Fargo as the iconic film of this year. But I like ANthony Minghella. Rest in peace. Seemed like such a nice, gentle man.

  • it truly was a great day for the isle of wight !!!

    RIP

  • wait wait wait... WIFE?! wasn't he supposed to be gay?! O_o'

  • I didn't like the film....but this guy deserved Directing award no ifs/ands/ or buts!...RIP

  • rip x

  • R.I.P. Anthony and Godspeed

  • Today marked what would have been Anthony Minghella's birthday.

    Happy Birthday and Godspeed.

  • RIP AM your legacy lives on

  • I never really liked this film until I realised that it's one of the few things i've seen that could be described as onscreen poetry.

  • U changed my life men! And now reign over me...

    Thank you!

  • RIP great great director.

  • The English Patient is a cinematic masterpiece. nothing from that year evenn came close to it. In my Opinion the second best, Best Picture Winer of the

90's under the Silence of the Lambs, which won the award in 91.

  • He was also a really mice guy. Everyone who met him loved him. He is really missed.

  • I love the music that plays as he wins. Powerful stuff from Gabriel Yared.

  • @EricAKATheBelgianGuy Do you know the title of the track?

  • @luke92dbz It's called "As Far as Florence," by Gabriel Yared, who deservedly won Best Score for this song.

  • I don't get it.Whenever I see the acting categories, the actors that lost are still happy, but in this category, the directors that lost always have a serious expression.

  • This is so great. R.I.P. Anthony Minghella. You truly deserved the Oscar and was a great contributor to the art of motion picture storytelling. Now, I'm hoping Oscar will also post the following categories from this year: Juliette Binoche for Best Supporting Actress (The English Patient) and The English Patient for Best Picture.

  • Fargo was by far the best film that year and should have swept all the categories it was nominated for.

  • Anthony for director without a doubt!A magnificent film!As for film,sometimes i prefer Fargo,sometimes i prefer Patient...

  • I would have liked to see Fargo winning the Best Picture and its director Joel Coen to win for the Oscar for director.

  • i agree, I think it was a much better film than any of those other films that year.

  • Fargo is great I can see what you mean. But Minghella made a beautiful film that is maybe lost on some.

  • I agree with those who felt that this was Mike Leigh's Oscar.

  • I would have given it to Mike Leigh.

  • Good work Anthony, your film is magnific!

  • Love his voice and he always seemed like such a nice guy just from every interview I've seen with him.

  • R.I.P. Anthony Minghella!!! You are the best!!!

  • He deserved that Oscar ;)

But Best Picture?!...That was a big mistake, Fargo should´ve won that
