  • The video of "Hush" with Billy Joe Royal frolicking at a southern beach boardwalk with lovely '60s babes is gone.... can someone upload that again?

  • This guy ripped off Deep Purple.

  • @antdigger NO ! This is the original version. Billy Joe Royal 1967; Deep Purple 1969

  • @antdigger nice joke.

  • @antdigger Dumbass

  • @antdigger Billy Joe Royal came before Deep Purple

  • Wow, didn't know bout this cover.....the boy from the boondocks just got kool.....must a been all those good georgia mushrooms.....well blessed be!

  • I like other versions of this song but this actually sounds better than them! Wow!

  • Well he sure as hell fucked up this song, Joe South is the original writer of this song and he's the best on to ever sing it. Billy Joe Royal has that whiny bitchy voices, not that heavy, whiny, Billy Corgan "Tonight Tonight " voice, but more of a Billie Joe Armstrong "American Idiot" whiny bitchy, hipster, I can't control my pitch voice.

  • Have to admit , this is the first time I've heard this , the originals are always the best.

  • awesome!!

  • :O omg...

  • Very nice version

  • i actually like this version slightly more than deep purple, just because its slightly happier. deep purples version is awesome, but it just gives a different vibe.

  • how about billy at Misty Waters in Decatur ,Georgia

  • I like this version better than the latter Deep Purples.

  • So much memories on that song. So long ago. Thank you .

  • SEX DRUG N ROCK N ROLL FUKING GOOD TIME

  • @MOMODU1212 Drugs and alcohol will kill you. :)

  • I still remember when Joe and Billy Joe played at the Bamboo Ranch out on Highway 80. Buddy Livingston had a TV show and would put them on the air locally. Buddy would warm up for them out at the Bamboo Ranch. They served booze there and I was too young to get in past the bouncer, but I had a friend working there and he would let me in when no one was looking. I knew these boys would 'make it' someday. I think both of them are still alive, but Joe is now in very bad health.

  • I've got an original vinil of this song,it's awesome

  • Joe South wrote this song for B J Royal, and later recorded it himself.

The Deep Purple cover (1969) featured the "nah nah" chorus played half the tempo at the end, revealing a similarity with John Lennon's A Day In The Life (also 1967). Whether there was an "inspiration" between the two is all but clear ti date.

  • @paraplegia Really interesting :-)

  • i used to play bass guitar with this band. back in 1968. God bless.

  • @tommyandtammy1 ...when you were 1 year old? Your age is listed as '43'.

  • i forgot to mention that i am 60 years old. on our page it list my wife tammy's age she is 43. i was 18 when i started with billy jo.

  • @tommyandtammy1

Hey Tommy man I'm 61 this week and I'm still playing (drums). I backed up Roy Head (Treat Her Right) couple months ago in Toronto. I hope you're still playing! Cheers!!

  • @sexrat thats cool i remember roy head.

yea we just played Wild Bills in Atlanta Ga,

it is the largest dance club in the USA.

    had a lots of fun.

    God bless.

  • @tommyandtammy1 I bet I saw you play out at the Bamboo Ranch when Billy and Joe South were playing in Buddy Livingston's band.

  • @vinegaroon1 You have a very good memory.

  • @tommyandtammy1 Are you listed as Tommy South?

  • @NcicHit no tommy lee.

  • Kula Shakers cover is the best version of this tune!

  • Yea, Kula Shakers' version is a little too poppy for me. I like the psychedelic sound of Deep Purple's cover though.

  • I like Deep Purple's version of this song too ... just as much as the original.

  • Billy can sing, like gene pitney! Who is first?

  • Gene Pitney had hits before Billy Joe Royal did.

  • so what? what is the point?

  • @Chacky92 I was answering the question posed by sarko0594 about who was first, Gene Pitney or Billy Joe Royal.

  • ok my bad didn't saw that comment... =)

  • classic !

  • originally by Joe South
