How do you go into the pop up menu that shows you the options of vertex, edge, faces, object mode on a mac? I have been trying to click on it using control-click or apple-click and its still not working :(

The extrude tool is magical. I use it 24/7. Just be careful though that you don't extrude two times. The faces will overlap and fuck up your model, and most likely confuse you when you get to UV mapping.

How do u duplicate the item?

If you wish to duplicate the entire object you must first go into object mode and selecting the object. On a mac you can press the hotkey Command+D, and on a windows i believe its control+D. Otherwise you can go up to the top and hit edit, and go down to duplicate.
