The best way to clean is with water and the best way to clean with water is by replacing your old toilet seat with a Spaloo spa toilet seat. The water is heated and you can adjust the water temp. and pressure. There is even a temp. adjustable air dryer for a truly hands free experience. Once you try one you will wonder why everyone doesn't use one. Water cleans better, feels better and is more sanitary than toilet paper. So for those of you who are concerned about personal hygiene get a Spaloo!
Thanks for the great video. After a bowel movement, i use toilet paper (which i wet with water) then i take a half body shower using water and regular soap. When i'm not at home then i just use flushable wipes which have some kind of mild cleaning lotion and when i come home i will take a shower and change clothes.

Dry off with toilet paper is not going to work. Next time you wash your hands, try drying off with toilet paper. Even if you don't rub but only pat it shreds and little pieces stick all over. I understand Dr. Mercola needs to make a living but I'm not buying this. Thanks but no thanks. SS
OK.....You cannot get clean JUST from the water...just as running water over dishes gets the dishes clean. You still have to use tissue or a cloth of some sort to get "clean".
Washing with water is also a long standing practice on Arab and Muslim societies; even in western countries many use wet wipes. I hope western countries discover it soon
I have always showered after a bowel movement..at least when Im at home. My girlfriend at first thought I was crazy...now she does it also. My only thought is...after using the spray method..how do you dry? and is the pressure enough to get all the matter away?
I've been cleaning with water since day one so if I'm at a friend's house who only has paper then I know it's going to be a nightmare! This is a must have, take Joe's advice.
@spol07 I learned the hard way, after getting tired of seeing skid marks on my underwear, a light bulb came on and I said to myself,"Hmm what if I put soap and water on the toilet paper and then wiped. Would I get cleaner? Voila! Now I wash thoroughly down there whenever possible after I do my biz, and follow up with a hand sanitizer. I don't understand why our parents don't teach us this stuff. I mean my God, seems like the doctor just learned.
"What the Europeans Know About Toilet Hygiene That You Don't"
hang on! the absolute masters of the modern "Bidet" are the Japanese!! cant believe that these guys don't get a mention. The "toto" washlet and the "Inax" toilet shower lead the way with amazing fully incorporated comprehensive systems that make going a pleasure.
Multi spray systems and cycles, air towel. heated seats heck toto even has one advanced system that can analyze your urine and do a health check.
Thanks Dr Mercola for highlighting something the Muslims have been doing for 1400 years! I'm not sure but I think the bidet was inspired by interactions with the Muslims when the Europeans colonised them.
At last someone is teaching americans to clean their asses properly and stop smelling like shit on the chairs and while moving around ... I cant beleive how they stuff their asses with so much dry irritating expensive non functional paper ... Canadian will learn from americans later ... but first americans
It just strikes me that you relate the method of cleaning with water to Europeans while its Islam for the past 1400+ years has taught as part of Cleanliness in this ultimate religion ...
@habooble Judaism has taught this for at least 3300 years. But water was used even at the beginning of civilization. I don't know where everybody is getting the notion that the Europeans used paper before water. Even the Americans used to use water.
I got a bidet attached to my toilet this year as had gotten used to it when I visit mainland european countries, particularly italy. However my system is connected to the electricity supply so the water is heated - an important factor in winter. You can also regulate heat, direction, pressure etc and heat the seat! There is then hot air to dry (not that I have the patience to sit there while that happens so inevitably i used toilet paper. In Italy we have many little hand towels which we use
I use a jug of water and my left hand to clean, and then I wash my hands afterwards. This whole notion of needing to keep hands "sterile" is purely American hegemonic culture at its finest. If one washes thoroughly with soap (not antibacterial, just regular soap) one can remove any threat easily.
Dr. M doesn't tell you what kind he used! We just attached a sprayer (like the old time hose sprayers on kitchen sinks) to the shutoff valve with a t-adapter. Works perfectly. We got them (one for each of our toilets) at a plumbing supply store. The pressure can be adjusted with the shut-off valve. To dry off afterward, a paper towel works well -- yes, it's paper and a bit wasteful but doesn't seem to use as much overall as toilet paper.
@mercola- I have been pondering this device for at least two years but I still have concern over germs.. If numerous person in a house or somewhere else are using the device how do you keep fecal matter and germs from spreading from person to person when sitting on the device or when the water is spraying upwards onto you from the fountain at the bottom of the bidet. Look forward to you response and thanks..
Would high pressured water really be enough to clean the rectum after a messy bowl movement? Why use toilet paper to dry off when we are trying to get away from using toilet paper all together? How do you adjust the unit so that fecal material won't fall down into the vagina area and potentialy exposing women to bacteria?
Your add-on device looks like a very efficient method for acquiring one, sounds very useful in the summer, but what about the models that also plug into an outlet and warms the water in the winter? Water comes out of the pipes near freezing in the winter up north, not pleasant at all. Wouldn't heating the water make it expensive and inefficient again? Thanks.
In mainland Europe that is what we use. Weather is warmer so little face cloths size towels can be laundered easily. Otherwise it's paper, unless you are prepared to drip dry!
Is there a way that one can lessen the pressure so that it doesn't hurt them? I'm extremely sensitive in that area - hyper-sensitive, if you will - and if the pressure is too much, it would really hurt.
thanks for the vid. I've been thinking we could also use a wet washcloth, then just do a load of those cloths once a week or whenever you've used enough to make a small load. It seems water alone wouldn't remove waste sufficiently, you need some friction. Also, you need to dry off. I suppose a dry towel is used? Anyway, toilet paper is wasteful and we should find an alternative that works for us.
@Wenona1975 No... actually, the only friction you need is the pressure of the water. Saving up wet poopy washcloths for a week would be just plain wrong.
@Wenona1975 I would imagen just water would be enough if you have a healthy stool/poo, otherwise.. yeah you might need a little extra. But if your healthy then you should have nothing to wipe after.
Muslims have used water to clean themselves after using the bathroom for more than 1400 years as far as I know. It just makes sense doesn't it? You don't wash your dishes with tissue paper do you? you use water and soap. Now is grease and food stains dirtier than faecal matter? Probably NOT! Thanks for sharing Dr. Mercola :)
@mmaghfai -- But most people take 1-2 showers/baths per day. Plus, we eat food off of our dishes, not off of our ass or genital area. So there is obviously a difference. :)
@ionxi (cont) but sadly enough most Americans are not in shape enough to squat on a regular bases. Huh, most of us aren't regular anyhow :\ And Americans think, that squatting in that position is what low life does. Silly huh?
dr, when you say in enjoy the experience!...that can sound a bit suspect lol!!!
Just ordered my 2nd batch of astaxantin...the 1st lot done me good....can i buy it in bulk from you, to sell over here in the UK?
