  • This TAS is from 2006, ok, but I just played this game ONCE and found out that at 17:08 you can just drop down and you will land on that small platform. Saves you a lot of time compared to climbing the rope all the way down.... a TAS shouldn't miss that :)

  • awsome, I can't beat even the second stage :P

  • I feel inclined to be nice to this game, its only fault is not aging well at all. Slow movement and horrible jumping can be forgiven in my eyes XD.

  • My absolute favorite game for the GameBoy... I think I managed to play it through twice without assistance. It has great music (sounds better on a GameBoy than in this video), and very challenging gameplay. But my favorite part was that each level has a hidden room!

  • One of the toughest games I've played (I was about 6/7 at the time) mainly due to poor handling, slow movements and hazardous jumps.

It's not a bad game however, it had great music and above-average graphics for a very early Gameboy game. Also it definitely has a Castlevania "feel" to it, despite some questionable choices.

But man, chill pills are needed before having a try at it !

  • I finaly beat this game in one go, no tool assistance on a real game boy!

  • 'l be honest i love the games music to death, so much so i just bought the game for that reason, almost beat it, f'n Dracula, over all as game play goes il just be strait forward its horrendous, i love the NES castlevania game play, but this is just plain cheap, ow well the second i beat this game, i'm locking it away for no mortal to ever suffer its wrath again!

  • this was my first castlevania game and i still love this game today i just hate level 3

  • This game SUCKS. Its like the only castlevania game that is bad.....well, this and haunted castle.

  • i had this and then my dog stepped on it then stole it and destroyed it i miss it i have to go on vgbx

  • Old days of game boy huh....Don't have to play it no more since Adventure Rebirth came out...but will always remember the original shitty version.

  • this is a incredible game, i´m a fan of castlevania

  • The song of the last level is the song of the first level but it's backward played.

  • @BlackMaverick91 NO it isn't, just tried it, but it sounds nowhere near it....

  • @blekhero You're right, audacity gave me the answer :D

  • Loved the game but could never have progressed without videogamestrategyguides (.) net

  • this is one of the hardest castlevanias , because youre so slow ,some jumps are nearly impossible and i gave up on stage 3 after 3h....

    But i like it.

  • 15:38 When did this turn into I WANNA BE THE BELMONT

  • I remembered playing this when I was kid. It was hella hard >_<

  • Todays games are way too easy! Back then we had it hard. We had limited lives and limited continues. On the top of all that it's also bloody hard! Oh I forgot old school games such as this have awesome music unlike todays games!

  • that menu is fucking scary, no graphics just the logo and scary ass music

  • welp i guess its safe to say this is the WORST castlevania

  • THOSE FUCKING SPIKES.

  • Trop dur ce jeu surtout étant gamin. J'ai 29 ans et à l'époque le gameplay m'avait traumatisé (plateformes à 2:40). Je suis vengé aujourd'hui!!

The gameplay was a nightmare, just jump is very hard! I still remind 2:40

  • @Chronique2001 hahah ces plates formes etaient bien chiantes oui.. meme aujourd'hui j'arrive toujours pas a finir ce jeu. le stage 4 a toujours ma peau

  • I just realized something....no stairs in this game, stairs are iconic to castlevania, but they didn't program them in this one, its all ropes, haha

  • incroyable la maîtrise, moi je me souviens que j'arrivais à peine à atteindre le niveau 3. A mon avis le jeu le plus difficile auquel j'ai pu jouer dans ma vie.

  • Playing this game was an effort. I had to press the button very strongly to make the vampire hunter go and jump.

  • Fantastic music. Horrible game.

  • lol at thepentagram, star of david hahha

  • i found this old game at a garage sale a couple days ago, its awesome but i never managed to get past stage 4 yet

  • @MikeTupperTheKiller same here

  • only one way to beat this game

master the worst castlevania controls ever

  • It seems like it makes no different , if your playing it in slowmotion (tool) or in normal speed xD

  • the rebirth of this game is also awesome! can't wait to play it. :)

  • oh god... i was like 8 when i got this game. THE most impossible game to finish ~_~

  • @itsgenji Same here dude. I could NEVER finish this! It was so hard!

  • the 2nd stage gave me the creeps as a kid. this game has music from castlevania 1!! very nice xD

  • Christopher Belmont's a bit of a slow walker!

  • Looks like one of Grandpa's sunday afternoon walks :-)

  • Yeah, very relaxing! =P

  • i love the first areas music more than most ppl do, thanks for the speed run, of this fun game. take care and have a happy new year

  • the game's music is amazing, -_-

  • I Never realized how close to completeing this game I got . I remember getting so frustrated

  • You are wrong.

  • oh i didnt play castlevania 4days ago until i play now i didnt know it rocks! because its easy :D

  • Not really easy...but have fun

  • This is got to be the most Underrated Castlevania game, this game is often ignored in the series...for example, the majority will either choose like Castlevania 1 or 2 as the best game of all time...I'm the polar opposite of that, I think this is the Best Castlevania game I've played, call me weird, but I had a lot of fun playing this when I was 8.

    Good speed run!!!

  • It is a part of the canon, I agree, but I prefer the second one in this series

  • No it's not. Konami removed it a long while back, along with a couple other games like the N64 ones and Circle of the Moon.

  • The Castlevania Dungeon has been lying all these years then? I know Legends and both the horrible 64 ones were, but this and Belmont's Revenge haven't from what I've seen.

  • Oh my bad.

I mistook this game for Legends.

  • Konami removed Legends, Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness and Circle of the Moon. Adventure and Belmont's Revenge have always been there.

  • You made this easy

  • Oh yeah, I remember these sickle throwers(earliest on stage 2).

Their name is Zeldo -- rotfl.

  • hate jumping on this game

  • This game cost me an OG brick Game Boy.......after I flinged it to the wall in frustation.

I haven't played this game in years, but I'm surprised that at one point I had it down to an art.....even with all of the pervasive slowdown, sluggish control, cheap enemies, ridiculous accuracy needed to jump platforms and scale ropes and whatnot. It took A LOT of trial and error. But I eventually PWNED it. Now I don't ever wanna touch it again.

This game NEEDED this remake. BADLY. Glad it got it.

  • Its a hard game but obv its not easy for you since its TAS Emulated everyone knows how to reocrd controller inputs!

  • He moves slow and his animation even makes him look like he's fighting gravity.

  • It took more people to do the music then it did to do the programming and graphics.

    Ohh... those were the days.

  • 15:37

    CASLTE made of Pencils

  • They got the pentagram wrong in Dracula's room at 17:56. I didn't know our favorite vampire count was Jewish, lol.

  • i love this game, but who is that main character?

  • thanks alot

  • error, is Christopher Belmont.

  • I'm pretty sure it was Christopher Belmont.

I think he was the successor to Trevor Belmont from Castlevania III.

  • @TheKidDoc81 Yeah, in The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge, you play as Christopher Belmont. Sad thing is despite being in two games (And battling through more castles in Belmont's Revenge than most Belmonts in other games) he's still a fairly unknown Belmont. In terms of pure accomplishments, I'd have guessed his place in The Greatest Five in Portrait of Ruin would have been a sure thing, but no such luck.

  • This game is a pile of shit.

I could never beat it, I lost patience.

But I hope the remake'll be good :)

  • THIS IS GETTING REMAKE?!???! O SNAP U"R RIGHT I"M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

my 1st GB game, got to drac but never beat it

  • Despite The Games Flaws It Was Very Challenging

  • Thank God this is getting a remake, as I hated this game so much.

I always was confused about how bosses were summoned by collecting orbs. It makes sense in the second game, as the orbs are actually powerful relics, channeling energy to Dracula.

Normally, high-powered monsters posses orbs, and Adventure is the only game in the canon to not reflect this.

  • Look out people, this game is being remade as Castlevania Adventure Rebirth on WiiWare. Looking forward to it.

  • i just looked this up cuz i remember the music....just to say 8bit rox

  • I played the last level a thousand times but never managed to complete it, that was when i was small. Thanks for this awesome speedrun!!!

  • Nothing can stop the Belmont Shuffle.

    rawr

  • This game saved me from a lot of boring road trips, this is easily my favorite Gameboy game.

  • my favorite gameboy game from the past

  • I played Castlevania 1-4, and Dracula X (SNES) and now Castlevania Adventure. And while Dracula X was the hardest, I think The Castlevania Adventure for GB is UNFAIR.

  • das sieht so leicht aus......

    dabei is das sau schwer

  • its amazing on speed runs they never get any thing 'extra' its all bout the TIME lol

  • yeah it's strange... you'd think the entire point was to complete the game in the least amount of time possible.

  • :) seriously doubt jumping and whipping and grabbing the item at the same time would kill any time since your covering the same ground

  • Does the game play THAT slow? Nice music though; I felt a hint of Bloody Tears in it.

  • Yes, the game really IS awfully slow and kinda choppily. You get the impression that the programmers weren't used to the Game Boys tight hardware limitations yet.

  • whats "tool-asisted"?

  • Means it's played on an emulater frame-by-frame and uses save states constantly to control things like item drops or if you die.

  • the music graphics & storyline are greadt.

the only thing i really hate is, the slow gameplay,if you,ve upgraded your whipe, and you get hitted by a enemy, you get to re-upgrade your whipe all over again, etc,,,

  • @johneymute how old are you? :I

  • agreed donhenri, one of the best music, its like u get into the game!!!!

  • best music for gameboy ever made, no other game comes close to this when it comes to music hands down.

  • damn it. i remember playing that game in my childhood times! freaking hard if you were a kid.

  • i stll pay that game..is off the hook..especially the music..;)

  • oh, i just read it was tool-assisted. Now it makes more sense ^_^

  • the player is amazing! i loved this game, and i remember it so hard to complete!

  • I wish konami would give these old gameboy versions the rondo of blood treatment. I would love to play a 2.5D version of this with improved control of course.

  • Wtf! You made it look SO easy! I never beat the third stage... gave up on the game...

  • I like those giant eyeballs.

  • I think this game wasn´t so hard. After you have finished the game two times in a row then it´s getting hard.

  • At 13:08 - there is a power up area if you jup to the right.

  • mate you are poetry in motion! good game!

  • How do speedrunners solve the problem with the music? You can't hear any gaps.

  • ...so....hard....

    but really fun, too.

I played this game for hours as a kid...

  • Other than Link's Awakening, this is my favorite Game Boy game EVER!

  • Aww, you didn't show the part where part of the castle ruins blasted open and Dracula escapes in bat form...

  • one of the best games ever for gameboy mind blowing sound qualaty but it was fuckin hard!

  • :O damn dude you are fuckin awesome!!I hate this fuck shit game, i could never pass the fucking second level!Damn this game is a hard pain in the ass =/

  • this game is pretty cool but there is only one thing that made this game suck, the play control wich isn't too awful but christopher belmont moves so fucking slow that before you know it you'll end up mashing the d-pad.

  • I concur. The first stage is already a pain where you have to jump from narrow platform to narrow platform, right before the boss.

  • castlevania its a legend

  • when i was 6 or 7 i was playin it and every time i died befor the 4th boss ... one time was enough i smashed the gameboy display against my head... but one time was to much and the display broke loL...

now im 24 and i try again to play it to end haha... one other game after Probotector (Contra in US) that i dont played to end... but i want to.. so i try hehe

i still like oldshool games the ppl today dont know how good they have

  • yeah, old school games really are awesome. Some are better than most new games too.

  • 4 real i still play the old megaman series didnt even know that there was megaman6 xD

  • god help me i couldn't get past the third stage. damn this game to hell.

  • Germany or Austria i think

  • This game is awesome. I just finished beating the final difficulty (when everything kills you in one hit) but it took me about 23 minutes. I wish I could do it in 18!

  • how do u set the game's difficulty, i don't remember difficulty settings, although I do remeber being a good HARD game.

  • Preach killaCore this is defiantly one of the hardest "technically-beatable" games I have ever played. I bought this game when I was twelve or something after beating Castlevania 3, but my god is this game hard. I think I've only gotten to the third stage ounce, outing me one happy childhood and about 15 dollars

  • Christopher slow walking speed is due to GameBoy slowdown. The console processor wasn't enough developped to smooth scrolling...

  • Thats bullshit, Mario Land 2 and lots of other GB games scrolls a lot faster than this piece of shit. Castlevania Adventure just sucks.

  • this game is good, and you suck ! and these musics own mario musics

  • I have actually legitimately beaten this game on the Game Boy. Wracked my brain doing it too, drove me insane for hours upon end in the middle of the night in a dark room with the illuminated screen light. Up there with Ghosts 'N Goblins on the NES, this is arguably one of the top 3 hardest games I've ever played & actually succeeded in overcoming.

  • thats incredible....wicked sick....unreal.....dude if u really done that without any bot or something like that ur the world best castelvania player in the whole universe...RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Emulator, Frame Advance and many SaveStates. ;-)

I could never beat it myself. Only done one time the second Boss. So I played it with Emulator and these functions to finally finish it.

  • where can i find the sweet and awesome song that starts at 00:13? The first song to say, its awesome and ive heard about a remix of it. It rocks...!

  • the game was great for its time. the hardware was late 80s ppl. chill out wow. Lemme wait 20 years later and laugh at the PSP just like you guys are doing with the Gameboy.

  • Man I've seen faster walking in the eldery retirement home

  • well in other castlevania games the main characters were walking too fastso they had to slow him down at this time

  • you could've done it in 6 min if the dude would run insteed of walk jezus this game was slow as the mf.cant help but hate it. props for the patience

  • got to dracula on this game but he is just...

    i.m.p.o.s.s.i.b.l.e

  • i can play stages one music on guitar il be posting a vid of it soon

  • this game would of made more sense if they passed him getting his leg broken in the begining explainning the slow walking

  • This game looks AWFUL!

  • i can play trough the first 2 levels like that, the 3rd level was a total ashdfAIOUSDHICU!!

great job,. on of my favs on gb

  • I never could complete this game, even with Game Genie! Even the end credits are as sluggish as Simon's movement! What a disposable passable.

  • i beat this like 5 times and one time i played it i beat it once then once then the 5 6 7 8 stages i beat with out dying once but still you are much better then me and why not get the stuff in the secret room?

  • No Secret rooms, because it was a TAS which I try to play as fast as possible. So no useless long ways.

  • I like the game alot and I've completed it often, too, though I'm not an expert.

You just need to memorize the levels and you'll have to die many times before getting good but since the music is so great you don't get bored^^

Stage 3 is my favourite, it's difficult at first but, damn, just listen to the music!!

  • for my other comment about the secret rooms sorry i didnt read the description

  • I didn't know about the secret rooms either-now I do, though-but my only goal ever was just to complete the game without dying.

And it gets easier time by time. However, I hate Stage 2 the most, on Stage 3 you just need to know the level itself, the enemies aren't as troubling....

  • this game is badass

do u have it for the pc or emulator?

  • OK for those wishing to complete it:

Level 1: Don't whip the first candle, candle at 0:53 contains a 1up. Now, there is a secret passage at 1:38 (just keep climbing into the ceiling) with a 1up. Now die and repeat grabbing 2 lives and dying until you have enough (this is only for having enough lives to practice higher levels :-)

Level 2: chamber at 5:58 (I think), destroy an eyeball at the right spot.

    Level 3: 13:09 jump right

Level 4: 16:41 jump left (invisible platrofm + rope)

  • I never knew the one at 5:58... or the one at 16:41.

  • Most people knock on this game because its REALLY difficult. (Remembering those sweat-drenched WEEKS of playing level 3 thinking I must be the stupidest sob for not being able to complete it.) If it was easier, let's be honest, there wouldn't be nearly as many passionately hateful reviews. I liked C2BR in terms of graphics and bosses but didn't feel nearly as satisfied when completing it. Seemed way too easy! (even Dracula).

  • this game sucked. i couldn't beat the third level to save my life.

  • this game is very hard but i love the freaking song and it's named battle of the holy

  • At 5:59, was that a giant eye?

  • Yes, like in the first Stage in some rooms and on the bridge at the second Stage

  • ive said this a million times, Castlevania is the gratest game series ever! i used to have this game and i never made it past the first boss. watching the second level for the first time felt like discovering the holy grail. great video.

  • the spikes going up at minute 9:00 look like crayolas(lol)

  • At the end, a bat flies out from the ruins.

And this begins Belmont's revenge some years later.

  • I don't even think batteries LASTED for 18 minutes in the original Game Boy.

  • I buy this game 1990 and play it all the day,day after day,and never passed the 3 stage,so I throw this game away and after 17 years I see the hole game from the begining to the end only in 20 min..respect,still a good old memory but the hardest game ever for the gameboy..thx

  • this game is so depressing...

  • I love this game, but never really got past stage 3 lol. -_- This could be a game guide for me :D I think.

  • this music is my memory

  • Ahhhh the first stage music brings back memories eh?

  • God, just how did Konami get the music in the 1st level to sound so good on a gameboy? It's amazing! And you gotta love the fireball shooting whip!

Yeah, it's a crappy game, but it has it's strong points and charms as well. Good run.

  • The only bad side about the game is there's no special weapons and the motion of the character is slow.

  • the sound isnt synced

  • I remember this game. My uncle used to have this and I used to play it. Unfortunately, I never passed the first level.

  • I got past Level and to Dracula at the very end a few times but never beat him. Probably the hardest GB game I ever played. And certainly one of the most annoying too.

  • Ok I agree He does walk rather slow but it's still a fun classic to play.

  • He's not walking. Or running. He's striding. With a purpose.

  • to robotbling:that´s not simon,but christopher belmont

  • It ain't Simon... it's Christopher

  • Nice job on completing a very good old school Castlevania title and one that's very underappreciated. Sure it's slow, but it's a first gen Gameboy title, what do people expect?

  • I remember when I first played this game and how god damn slow it was. What were the developers thinking?

  • Yeah, that's right! In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, "WHAT were they THIN-king?!"

  • Nice job of completing this difficulty game. Now to watch other castlevania games.

  • It's not bad... it's just slow. Music on the firs level is good.

  • Someone bothered speed running this crappy game? WOW!!!

  • I´ve the roginal.. No signs that i played it.. top-quality ^^ ( with Box and manual ).. I´m proud on that..

It´s one of the most funniest GB Game.. Because my Freinds can´t reach the boss at Level 3 ( eays if you know how it works ).

    Love it ^^
