I don't quite understand the purpose of this video. Obviously the iPhone is going to be able to render the page much faster, because it is a more powerful device. In terms of bandwidth and latency, the capabilities of EVDO absolutely destroy EDGE.

were you in sprints rev a network? not everyone lives in a highspeed network. i work with sprint and have done a side by side with an iphone and my treo 755. the only thing they can download faster is youtube.

Was the Treo cache set to 0 Mb for the reload? Enable or disable both caches next time.

The awful iPhone GSM static revealingly overshadows the demonstration; iPhone has a wonderful screen and presentation, one limitation is 2G.

Do a download of something like a 20mb MP3...in a car for testing the networks. A browser test should include Xiino on the Treo; it renders faster than Blazer.

The options and outcomes are much more refined and clear than this video's fuzzy result suggests.

Sprint and Verizon stopped selling that Treo model a year before the iPhone was even introduced. If you upgrade that handset to something manufactured after 2004, we would see the real network comparison, i.e., EVDO vs. Edge.

Dude, Blazer sucks and nobody with good sense uses it with a Treo. You should do the same test using Opera mini. Give the Treo every advantage it has since in the real world thats how it will be used. BTW that goes for the i-Phone as well. We want to see them both at their best. An interesting observation; My Unlocked, Cingular Treo 650 on Switzerland's Swisscom EDGE service using Opera mini beat both phones.

This is stupid. Will you guys do a PROPER test already and tether these to the same PC? Everyone knows the Treo CPU sucks, especially compared to the graphics friendly iPhone CPU. But the Treo's data is MUCH faster. Its bottlnecked by the device.

At least, try this test on a Windows Mobile handset!

dont know how to break it to you. EVDO is over 5X as fast as EDGE. THis is Be sheer science not tests that we have no clue wht your actually doing. Also the iphone is the most overated piece of crap on the market. It is a great concept, but if they had 3G, and it was unlocked. It would be the best phone, just no 3G takes it off the list.

What matters more than download speed for loading a web page is how long it takes to get a response after a request. In this case we see that EVDO and EDGE are very similar. If we had tested live streaming video for example that doesn't require a round trip after its started, the results would have been vastly different.

Most people only really care about percieved web browsing speed. It seems only people who are stats driven dislike the iPhone.

there is something wrong with your test. the iPhone did go faster with a cache but why did the treo go slower after it had a cache, your test doesn't make much sense

So EDGE plus APPLE? Of course it will be better than everything else because of the "APPLE" factor alone. But EDGE plus Cingular/ATT phones? It's not enough..Bottom line, the STATISTICS for EVDO & EVDO REV-A as a whole are still better than EDGE phones. I am sure VERIZON customers are feeling me on this... 

I work for Sprint (and I'm very unbiased might I add) and after watching this video I agree, the iphone ROCKS and is apparently faster than the Treo 700. However, I did the same test with my Q while the video ran and it was a lot closer than the Treo. The TREO had to have been on just EVDO rather than Rev A. One other thing...You MUST take into consideration that this is of course "APPLE" that the wireless world is now dealing with which means 2 things: (CONTINUED)

Which EVDO is the Treo on? One is faster than the other. Btw you can set the Treo's cache to be bigger so it will be faster on reload.

You can also use the Opera Mini browser (free) which runs faster then the included Treo Browser.

I think your Test 1 video is interesting because on the Treo you can read information even while the page is loading. You can click a link without waiting for the rest of the page. You can't do that on the iPhone.

technically, edge is slower than EVDO (in spite of this test) this comparison is hardly conclusive, I would try it out and make sure you're happy with edge speed before purchase... (but iphone wifi is very fast --for a mobile phone)
