most of peoples neck is already being stretched to their limits and you still want them to bend forward? so their disk can get smashed in the front causing the slip and slide effect. western view is weird, why not do the opposite since what has been done causes pain.
@kanayumikumo: You are supposed to do it in a way that would not cause additional pain.
And there is a reason for that additional stretching - if your muscles are stiff because of inactivity, then only taking care of the pain and not doing any stretching exercises will make them even weaker, and thus more prone to get stiff. That's why people who exercise on a regular basis don't experience this kind of pain as often as the rest does.
