The shoes are EXTREMELY slippery on the wet surfaces, like rock for example. I was really disappointed to find out this fact standing on the rock in the center of the small river, while my friend in the plain boots was jumping from one rock to another without any problem, like I was standing on the oil, risking to fall down. I do not understand how it is possible for the hiking shoes??! .
Nice shoes...Many years ago my brother worked in a Bushwalking shop so I got to try a number of different hiking boots. Nothing at the time IMHO came close to the Aku terrain Air 8000 Gortex lined boots that I ended up buying...lightness is a high priority me....if it's not wet or too rough, I go with standard Dunlop KT 26's runners for under $40.
My Gortex leaks a bit now, I will definitely consider these, Montrails.
i don't see a reason to not choose gore-tex, my gear relies on it. my jackets made from gore-tex packlite, my hiking shoes gore-tex and vibram, waterproof membrane pants.. and so on. its the most breathable material i think and almost all of the big brands in outdoor gear like: the north face, salewa, mammut, black diamond, deuter etc. make all of their products from it.
if you plan some wilderness or mountains it is better to avoid Montrail At Plus GTX without any doubt!

Something often overlooked in reviews is how heavy boots become after walking through mud and water. Some boots collect mud and and or become sodden.

@Greatbloke Good call. Sucks when that happens, so it's definitely worth finding a boot that will fare well in those conditions.
