They air brush out stuff like that. Not because they are covering up life, but because they find stuff that is not 100% proof of life. They don't want to give false hope! They also don't want to let other countries know they found something interesting until they can get there first and claim 100% discovery. Life on another planet would be huge, lots of competition to study it. America hides stuff so they can be first to discovery, and first to study. They are looking for precious commodities.
