But not all the time: Lao Tzu is right in some of his actions (they're the smart things to do, as follows): for one thing, he's right: you should live in nature and stay away from humans by being in places like mountains, humans are a poison, for another thing, you should be pacifist, for another, you shouldn't worship gods (I don't worship God, I just pray to him), however I disagree w his religion, however I agree with his hate for human beings.
It's OK to be a monkey: always desiring, always feeling, and being awed by your senses, and (a weird opinion) acting busy and learning in an intelligent way. Let the Tao go, go to Lao's grave and pull his brain out of his head and make a superintelligent robot with his brain inside (the thoughts won't exist). To understand the universe, use science, Taoism is not understanding the universe, it's a brat (Lao) who wants stupidity and corruption.
After a meeting between a young Confucious and a much older Lao Tzu...Confucious said, "Today, I have met the Dragon. I cannot tell how it mounts its' wings and flies through Heaven."
Actually the human history is full of repeated crises, wars, violent behaviors, mockery and discriminations of all kind. The solution? Teaching LOVE & COMPASSION. The time to read that message one child died because lacking food. PLEASE ACT NOW. Franck Renand, President, LOOK PACIFIC (NGO).
I don't understand Chinese, but I get goosebumps just be listening to this wonderful performance by Ying Ruocheng. Tao-Te Ching is one the treasures of our world.
Thank you for sharing the translation. I recently translated all 81 poems from Chinese to English, thanks to the indispensable help of a couple websites that give a lot of information on each Tao character. My chief references were the Wang Bi (3rd century) and Heshang Gong (2nd century BCE) manuscripts, but I also used the Fu Yi (6th century), MWD A, B (3rd century BCE) and Guodian (3rd-4th century BCE) as well. The Tao Te Ching is a masterpiece of wisdom.

It is okay to be a monkey, a primitive ape-as Lao Tzu depicted as long as one co exist in nature peacefully as God intended.
Never mind what he wrote above, Lao-Tzu wrote more than that and teach more than that.

except for the weird stuffs and the alchemy he is known for...

Not only does the Tao Te Ching represent wisdom among human beings, but it also mirrors the heavenly order of things in the universe.

I can't imagine Lao Tzu looking like a buddhist monk ...

@semillasdelorto ...it is good you don't as Lao Tzu was not a monk. He was just a man...a man with deep insight.

He who knows other men is discerning;
He who understands himself is intelligent.
He who overcomes others is strong;
He who overcomes himself is mighty.
He who is satisfied with is rich;
He who goes on acting with energy has will.
He who does not fail in the requirements of his position, continues long;
He who dies and yet does not perish, has longevity.
Much of its original poetic qualities are lost through translation, but hope you can hear it in the video.
