If you ever shot and relied on one before, you would know, the M1911 is a pretty tough gun, very reliable (Assuming you got a good quality one and you do maintain it), very customizable (Though, it's just to improve it's already good performance), and, matter of fact, it's probably the only gun who already has over 50 years of history... Nowdays it's still used by the Delta as well...

Great weapon last time I cleaned and used. Long history, I'm told by friend still in that many still prefer it. Did the job it was designed for. I just turned 21 and bought a colt series 70 government. I kinda rushed into it not thinking and this is my second gun( i have a Mossberg 500). I am wondering if there is any way i could exchange the government slide for a commander slide?
0:23, BIG mistake, dude. NEVER put your finger on the trigger while you're not intending to shoot, especially when you're pulling the slide back to load the chamber.

Capacity. Colts .45s had 8 rounds on them at max. More stopping power, but shorter ranges, more kick, and a smaller magazine while at the same time still being a rather large pistol. 9mm is far from a stupid small round, Hell, 9mm has killed just as many living creatures as .45 has.

But no, the USP .45 is not the best at all, the newer HK45 is by far better, and replaced the mk 23 SOCOM .45 in Special Operations Battalions.

9mm is a more "managable" round. meaning lighter weight people (females mostly) and those less experenced in shooting can fire the 9mm and feel fairly confidant holding on to it.
for those of us that know what the hell we're doing you cannot beat a good .45. I hit a target in the shoulder with a 9mm and he/she could still pose a threat to me. I shoot them in the shoulder with a .45 and i'm going to spin them around and prolly knock them off their feet and reconsider getting back up
So, did you only fire one gun in particular before you came to that conclusion? Not every 1911 is exactly the same as any other; the build quality varies greatly. I think one would be able to tell the difference between a $400 Rock Island Armory 1911 built in the Philippines and a $2800 Nighthawk Custom handmade in the States.

Really? I think Glocks have mushy triggers and poor ergonomics, but to each his own. Personally, I think that polymer-framed handguns are excellent for inexperienced users and those requiring a cheap, good quality defensive tool that will not fail. However, a customized 1911 is probably one of the best target or tactical sidearms that one could possibly have, provided that you have the money and/or the expertise to spiff one up.
the glock trigger is thin like a M1 garand. it's nice and crisp. with little travel for discharge. the only other pistol i don't like is the disgusting beretta 92f
I'll admit, the Glock trigger feels pretty good to the touch, and it does tend to break cleanly, but I don't like the overall length of pull and uneven resistance it gives. Of course, with a little gunsmithing work to reduce the trigger travel a bit and lighten it up further, it's almost perfect.
I still prefer the grip angle and controls on the 1911, though. For that reason, I tend to favor guns with similar ergonomics, like the Springfield XD or HK USP.
you wanna talk about long trigger travel, look into the beretta 92F what a fuckup. with it's EXPOSED sear etc. probably nothing pisses me off more than the XD. it reminds me of pepsi. they both try to copy a SUPERIOR product and they fucking suck at it.
The XD is probably another gun that isn't that great without a little tweaking and aftermarket parts added. The Glock, SIG and HK models are usually excellent right out of the box, I'll give them that much. However, I would never buy a Glock in any caliber other than 9mm. The other models have a partially unsupported chamber - like some 1911s - which is fine for low-pressure rounds like the .45, but it can be dangerous in higher-pressure calibers.
not sure what you mean about that last part. some HK pistols are junk. they can be damaged easily if dropped on the slide and require some work to function again. the customer service for just about all german gun manufacturers is poor.
The HK P7 and P2000 aren't all that hot, but the USP and HK45 are excellent guns, if they're taken good care of. Difficult to find parts for them, but if HK stood behind their products a little better than they do now, there wouldn't be any problem with them at all. The Mk. 23 is nice, but a bit on the heavy side. It may seem clumsy, but the weight does help absorb some of the recoil. That is, if you can even find one of those beasts. They're a collector's item.
the P7. i think thats the squeeze cock? it's a good bad guy gun. tommy lee jones had it in under siege and alan rickman had it in die hard. the HK USP is easy to control because of it's built in recoil buffer. it was tom cruise's weapon of choice in collateral.
I saw a P7M8 just yesterday. I hear the gas delay blowback system in that gun is a little finicky about what kind of ammo you can feed through it. I picked up a Kimber Custom II at that shop. I had a couple FTFs while testing it out at the range they had there, but these weren't the gun's fault at all. The stainless Wilson Combat mags caused two different 1911s to jam in the exact same way. The 1911's reliability really depends on the magazines you use with it. Glock mags have a better design.
I was always something of a Glock fan. We used to have a Glock 26, but we sold it after my dad accidentally put a hole through the front window of our old townhome with it when he thought he was dry-firing an unloaded gun. A modified Glock is a competition shooter's best friend. They are very consistent and reliable weapons. I still like M1911A1-derived pistols better, though. The balance, the accuracy, the ergonomics, the heft of the gun;
Ahhh, the ol 1911. 60% of the time, it works, everytime.

@BaddieAss actually they are not only for Special Ops, there are plenty of civilian models lieing around any good Gun shop, besides, your thinking of the mk 23 SOCOM. But no, the USP .45 is not the best at all, the newer HK45 is by far better, and replaced the mk 23 SOCOM .45 in Special Operations Battalions.
Even so, the Colt .45 is still the best sidearm in my opinion, your not looking for some new fancy pistol with christmas lights on it, your looking for something rugged and powerful cuz

9mm is a more "managable" round. meaning lighter weight people (females mostly) and those less experenced in shooting can fire the 9mm and feel fairly confidant holding on to it.
for those of us that know what the hell we're doing you cannot beat a good .45. I hit a target in the shoulder with a 9mm and he/she could still pose a threat to me. I shoot them in the shoulder with a .45 and i'm going to spin them around and prolly knock them off their feet and reconsider getting back up

So, did you only fire one gun in particular before you came to that conclusion? Not every 1911 is exactly the same as any other; the build quality varies greatly. I think one would be able to tell the difference between a $400 Rock Island Armory 1911 built in the Philippines and a $2800 Nighthawk Custom handmade in the States.

Really? I think Glocks have mushy triggers and poor ergonomics, but to each his own. Personally, I think that polymer-framed handguns are excellent for inexperienced users and those requiring a cheap, good quality defensive tool that will not fail. However, a customized 1911 is probably one of the best target or tactical sidearms that one could possibly have, provided that you have the money and/or the expertise to spiff one up.

the glock trigger is thin like a M1 garand. it's nice and crisp. with little travel for discharge. the only other pistol i don't like is the disgusting beretta 92f

I'll admit, the Glock trigger feels pretty good to the touch, and it does tend to break cleanly, but I don't like the overall length of pull and uneven resistance it gives. Of course, with a little gunsmithing work to reduce the trigger travel a bit and lighten it up further, it's almost perfect.
I still prefer the grip angle and controls on the 1911, though. For that reason, I tend to favor guns with similar ergonomics, like the Springfield XD or HK USP.

you wanna talk about long trigger travel, look into the beretta 92F what a fuckup. with it's EXPOSED sear etc. probably nothing pisses me off more than the XD. it reminds me of pepsi. they both try to copy a SUPERIOR product and they fucking suck at it.

The XD is probably another gun that isn't that great without a little tweaking and aftermarket parts added. The Glock, SIG and HK models are usually excellent right out of the box, I'll give them that much. However, I would never buy a Glock in any caliber other than 9mm. The other models have a partially unsupported chamber - like some 1911s - which is fine for low-pressure rounds like the .45, but it can be dangerous in higher-pressure calibers.

not sure what you mean about that last part. some HK pistols are junk. they can be damaged easily if dropped on the slide and require some work to function again. the customer service for just about all german gun manufacturers is poor.

The HK P7 and P2000 aren't all that hot, but the USP and HK45 are excellent guns, if they're taken good care of. Difficult to find parts for them, but if HK stood behind their products a little better than they do now, there wouldn't be any problem with them at all. The Mk. 23 is nice, but a bit on the heavy side. It may seem clumsy, but the weight does help absorb some of the recoil. That is, if you can even find one of those beasts. They're a collector's item.

the P7. i think thats the squeeze cock? it's a good bad guy gun. tommy lee jones had it in under siege and alan rickman had it in die hard. the HK USP is easy to control because of it's built in recoil buffer. it was tom cruise's weapon of choice in collateral.

I saw a P7M8 just yesterday. I hear the gas delay blowback system in that gun is a little finicky about what kind of ammo you can feed through it. I picked up a Kimber Custom II at that shop. I had a couple FTFs while testing it out at the range they had there, but these weren't the gun's fault at all. The stainless Wilson Combat mags caused two different 1911s to jam in the exact same way. The 1911's reliability really depends on the magazines you use with it. Glock mags have a better design.

I was always something of a Glock fan. We used to have a Glock 26, but we sold it after my dad accidentally put a hole through the front window of our old townhome with it when he thought he was dry-firing an unloaded gun. A modified Glock is a competition shooter's best friend. They are very consistent and reliable weapons. I still like M1911A1-derived pistols better, though. The balance, the accuracy, the ergonomics, the heft of the gun;
