  • 1:01 He just couldn't resist.

  • 4 and 5 hands down

  • I remember thee Eureka and Yvno (4 and 22) from Extreme Machines!

  • I can't see Thomas the Tank Engine :)

  • SWEET!

  • #5 #5

  • engine number 2 almost sounds like thomas the tank engine.

  • what type are the 3rd and 5th one? i can guess where the others come from, but not those :P

  • the 3rd one is cute

  • First and second were the best steamer horns.

  • Notice the narrow-gauge locomotive is the second loudest.

  • I think #3 is a Hunslet from Wales. #6 is from a Hawaiian Sugar Plantation. 2 different locos from 2 different parts of the Western Hemisphere. #5 has a great whistle!

  • #5 is the best

  • Does anyone know the type of whistle the 5th one is? (0:33-0:45) Or if that style has a proper name?

  • i loled at #3

  • @pokedude104 #3 is British.

  • i give #25 *****

  • I want my car horn to sound like #4

  • 5th has the best sound! Kinda haunting like a wolf howling. :-)

  • the last one sounds like Disneyland.

  • @huettmr E.P. Ripley & Fred Gurley.

  • Clearly, I was born in the wrong era.

  • coole trains

  • what is the engine with the big red cowcatcher

  • Where was this? It had trains from both US and UK, so I'm not sure where this was.

  • @BramGroatFilms This was at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, taken July 4th weekend, 2006.

  • @BramGroatFilms - Trains? Surely you mean locomotives. Which ones' are UK then? 4th whistle best !!

  • I liked the 3rd one. :)

  • 5th is best.

  • a girl that recorded trains. life is good.

  • The third one is just adorable XD

  • the whistle at 36 seconds is beautiful

  • obviously 4th and 5th the best

  • Haha the car thinks it's a train. How funny!

  • Fantastic steam locomotives!

  • Where are these trains? Awsome!!! 5/5

  • the first one sounds like a howling dog

  • is this narrow that little teamer the 3 one is kinfa funny

  • where the little loco from? Whales maybe?

  • Fun and interesting.

  • 0:56

Why does that remind me of thomas?

  • Maybe cuz it SOUNDS LIKE HIS WHISTLE?

  • haha me 2 GRIN!!

  • what kind of whistle do you call the 5th locomotives? the city of COS is restoring a class T-12 D&RG STEAM LOCOMOTIVE and were looking for the right whistle tone.

  • Hope you're aren't trying to take that one, that's been on the #25 for as long ago as the 70's and 80's! that's one of the most beautiful whistles I've ever heard and its just right for the V&T #25! Try to forge the whistle, don't take it.

  • Lol, its sounds perfect though, we

    (i) since im over the everything should take it but won't. i love locomotives to much, to take her voice away.

  • thats a baldwin 3 chime

  • @Engineer5344 really? it reminds me of a nathan 6 chime.

  • yup it's a baldwin 3 chime, a nathan 6 chime would have a somewhat more deep melodic tune to it.

  • true...ok..thanks...hopefully my train will run soon. I just found someone who would give me a baldwin 3 chime. but it wont be real.

  • not a problem, glad to be of help

  • I really really like the 5th one :-) That's a pretty one, kinda like a wolf almost. Also, it's most similar to my favorite engine ever, 4501!

  • LOL!! I love this whistles ^^

  • The last one sounds like one of those wooden whistles that you blow into to make a whistle sound.

  • I agree

  • LOL!! Love this.......

  • tooot tooooooot

  • Son loves video

  • great video!

  • the 4th and 5th sound the coolest!!!!!!

  • classic sounds.....

  • yeah the fifth one is so classic! It's so Eerie that I love it.

  • I agree with you that was my favorite one

  • 3 through 7 I really love .

  • my fav. the 4th whistle

  • Beautiful locomotives with their nice sounds. Thanks for positing.

  • Great video, nice whistles, but not quite as haunting as the Dubs&Co Prairie Dog Central Old No.3 4-4-0

  • Awesome video,great job 5*****

  • wait i forget.... whats the relationship between the first two, aren't they like sister engines or something?

  • The only relations between those locomotives are the are built in 1875, they are 4-4-0's, they are from Nevada, and they can run. Outside that nothing I can think of. Oh, the first one is narrow gauge.

  • Ok thanks, i just feel like there are two, and nevada rings a bell, that were like built the same and they are like famous together, maybe im just an idiot but thank you very much!!! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Oh and Nick theres also a few more They were both built by Baldwin in the same month they both have old time hooters there almost exaly identical expect that the inyo has a bonnet stack and vertical bars on her cowcatcher the eureka is a narrow gueage and has horizontal bars on her cowcatcher and a diamond stack

  • The First one is E&P #4, owned by D. Marcoff, and the second is V&T #22.

  • yah and those two sure look beautifull side by side

  • They sound like ghosts :( Scary

  • My personal favorite is NSRM #5's or V&T #25's.

  • I like this video all standard gauge locomotives and 1 narrow gauge really tie this video up. Great work I love all the whistles.

  • there are two other narrow gaugers, one 24 inche gauge and anothr 18 inche gauge

  • Whoops my bad I just noticed Eureka first. But I see the other tiny ones with their British sounding one chimers.

  • Number 4 gives almost a pained sound. I wonder what notes are played for this sound. I can well imagine that when you hear it coming towards you down the track with the accompanying "huffing and puffing" sound, you sense an adrenaline surge coursing through your body in anticipation of danger.

  • Nr 5 sounds most classic.

  • Those first 3 engines have hooter whistles.

  • the 4th train sounds the best!

  • That's my favorite as well! I wish he could have held those notes a little longer!

  • absolutely! were the engines under steam??

  • trucker85shropshire

V&T #25, the fifth one is best!

  • trucker85shropshire

First, they're locomotives. Second, you gotta be crazy to not like V&T 25's the best!

  • No matter what anyone else says old Inyo sounds Better than everyother locomotive better than the Eureka and #25 and the Cookie #8

  • there is nothing like the sound of a steam train!! gives one chills!!

  • well i wouldn't say it gives one chills. but there is just somethin about the sound of a steam locomotive whistle, especially when it's a multi chime whistle. there is just somethin about them multi chime whistles. it's like music of nice sort you could say

  • 5th whistle's got the most gumption, but I love the forlorn sound of the two Classic 4-4-0's.

  • you mean the Eureka and the Inyo

  • sweet! These guys got big toys! I ride mini steam trains if that count's. No? Crap! Well, I've been on a few big ones and some traction engines.

  • shit no, the V&T 25 is the 5th locomotive. my eye sight sucks. that is the best one in the entire clip

  • Farlack907, yea the 4th locomotive is the V&T 25

  • V&T 25 is the winner of this clip.

  • Third from the right sounds the best. I think great Video!!!!

  • No,the third is best.

  • Idk the 4th and 5th sound really good. The third sounds like thomas the tank engine

  • Your are gotta be kiddin' me.

  • Nope im not

  • The 4th and 5th sound Gay.

  • No the 4th and 5th sound like good ol Southern Steam 2-8-0'a and 2-8-2's The first 3 go good with that type of locomotive.

  • Yup.

  • 3rd sounds like british Glory.

  • Im not the only one who thinks the the 4th and 5th sound good

  • I agree...the fourth whistle, the #8 Cooke, is my favorite, while the V&T #25, 5th locomotive, comes in a close second. Personally I prefer the deep tones of the American locomotives to the higher pitched foreign ones. They just sound stronger, tougher, more impressive.

  • Exactly!!, I love the good ole Deep Toned 4 and 5 chimes. Fantastic Video

  • The first two one are from the Texas Railway, the third one is from the Tallylln railway, the 6th one is from the Ffestinog railway, the last one Texas Railway and the 4th and 5th Texas Railway.

  • The 1st locomotive is the narrow gauge #4,"EUREKA" originally from the Eureka & Palisades RR. The 2nd is the Virginia &Truckee's #22 "INYO". Both 4-4-0's were built in 1875,and neither is from Texas Railway. They are among the oldest operating locomotives.

  • The 4th, the #8 Cooke 4-4-0, IS originally from the Denver,Texas,&Fort Worth Railroad, but was sold in 1890, and bounced around for awhile before ending up at the NSRM.

  • The 5th, the #25 Baldwin 4-6-0, was built for the V&T Railroad, did some time in Hollywood, and eventually came back to Nevada. I don't think she ever spent time with the Texas Railway. I am unfamiliar with the others.

  • The third one looks like Redney. Son of FelixCheng.

  • the black one the 25 is a 4-6-0 ten wheeler. and beside that tiny purple british locomotive, all the rest are american.

  • Don't you mean Red.

  • are these american type locomotives

  • No the third one is from the Tallylln railway and it is no.11 ''Redney''.

  • symphony of history yeap i like that

  • you know kristy, you are the second female i have met, not personally face to face. but the second i have at least seen so far that is into steam. if you don't mind me asking. how did you become fascinated with steam lomotives.

  • thats a shame. i have always wanted to visit the nevada state railroad museum. someday i hope i do.

  • It's a wonderful museum. The best time to go is Independence Day when they steam up their woodburner "INYO". That is the second engine in the video. She was built in 1875, and still runs on her original boiler. She is definitely worth seeing in action! (The 2nd, 4th, and 5th whistles in the video all belong to engines that reside at the museum, and they usually steam up all three Independence Day weekend.)

  • i agree with you, i would love to see the inyo pull some of those old wooden coaches they have there. that engine never seems to have one spot of soot on her when she is alive. these days it's hard to find time to go places.

  • I can tell you, at the end of the day, her crew is wiping the INYO down, cleaning her wheels, polishing the brass, and getting every spot off of her. They keep her in museum piece condition, and it's great to see all that bright paint and shining brass come to life! Definitely go see her some 4th of July.

  • lol, if i had enough money for amtrak tickets i would. im a fricken pauper

  • I can't cuz i live in the uk!

I Want to go back to the NRM.

  • when was this taken

  • This was taken last year on July 4th! I have gone to Carson City the past three years on Independence Day weekend to see them steam up their old steam locomotives, but unfortunately, I won't make it this year.

  • when V&T 25 palys her music, all i can say is to all you people, is that you need to crank it up and play her music over and over.

  • Do you mean the 4th one?

I would keep playing it until it was at V&T 25.

  • im the 11,274th viwer

  • Old sound of our first travels in steam train, also in Spain.

  • I don't like the high pitched whistles, I like the deep 4 chime whistles.

  • I LOVE high pitched whistles. They are so This century.

Low pitched whistles are SO last century.

  • Nothing is better then a 5 chime whistle.

  • LOL, the #8 Cooke one is the whistle that they use on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney Land. It's probably why it sounds familiar to a lot of people.

  • The second to last sounds like a diesal

  • Believe it or not, it's steam. All the whistles in this clip are from some type of steam engine.

  • It's probably one of those European whistles since it's so high-pitched. Also, I hear a car horn at the end

  • Yes, there is a car horn at the end, someone in the parking lot wanted to join the fun. You can hear the people laughing in the video, that's what they're laughing at.

  • THE THIRD ONE IS SO TOTALY HOME!

  • I like 'em all!

  • Where was this video taken???

  • This was filmed Independence Day Weekend 2006 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

  • got yer ear plugs ready! worth a listen/watch dave/glos

  • soundin good u.s whistles r pretty beasty!

  • The 4th is the greatest!

  • The 4th one, the #8 Cooke engine, is my favorite also. Sounds so classic!

  • Yeah!

    It sounds classic!

  • Agree with KKcowgirl. Now what if they sounded ALL their whistles at the end. One, two, three, four, five... go now! Rock 'n Roll 'n Train Whistles... the Sounds of America

  • Neat to hear all the sound variety. Fun video, thanks for posting!
