  • march 23's my birthday(:

  • who cares. This guy ruined hockey. Think about it

  • @ARTISTSEYE2 How??

  • this is toward the end of his career and still had 120 points with 5 years left in his career thats how good he was

  • Wish the LA kings fans still were this loyal to the team.

Now they all bandwagon the lame lakers.

  • Was Kurri has second assist of that goal?If was, thats will be so great!

  • @Makaronimano No, Kurri never touched the puck. McSorley got the 1st assist and Robitaille the 2nd.

  • I can't believe they're using the Gary Thorne call when you had Jim Robson who is the best hockey announcer of all time second only to Danny Gallivan, calling the game for BCTV. Gary Thorne was the best hockey announcer in the US, but nobody touches Robson.

  • @surfer53 well this is espn classic, so american version is played

  • @surfer53 There were a number of announcers calling the game. The uploader was using ESPN. Bob Miller does the local broadcasts, and without hearing the other versions, his was at least as good (I recorded the game and have it on VHS), and I haven't been able to find Miller's call on the play.

  • gretzky's goal + gary thorne with the call = golden

  • If McSorley's (who got the primary assist on this goal) career didn't end the way it did, he would be remembered as what he should be remembered as...the man who made Wayne Gretzky's career what it was, and be mentioned in the same breath as the Great One.

  • The sign at :50 states it (I think) very clearly:

    802 + 99 + THE GREATEST ONE!!!

No question, hesitation or consultation needed to say it. And to think he did that while playing for us, even more special fr me being a lifelong Kings fan since 1975 growing up having season tickets at The (not so) Fabulous Forum down in Inglewood from 1977-87.

  • and I don't see what is so bad about being a part of the British Commonwealth...

  • then those faggots traded all these guys and its all fucked up now

  • Gaubuchon02, funny to see, what a great bullshit one guy can post. ahahah.

  • Gaubuchon02 get a life your just jealous of Canada your just some little computer geek who acts tuff but in real life your a big pussy who would never talk like this to someones face!!! coward

  • Jim Robson is in the Hockey Hall Of Fame, while Gary Thorne sucks Mickey Mouse's (Disney is the owner of ESPN) cock.

I currently live in a border state (Washngton) and am originally from L.A., and I've heard Jim Robson call not only a ton of games for the Canucks, but also for the world-famous Hockey Night In Canada on CBC,

Gary Thorne only wishes he could be either on HNIC or inducted into the HHOF. But then again, he isn't worth the time or the ink. Plus, HNIC's coverage is far better.

  • @Gaubuchon02 what does this have to do with wayne gretzky geting 802 goals?

  • still get chills watching this

  • what is the song in the background?

  • They stopped the game because it won't happen too many times. 802 GOALS! Unless the NHL becomes an international league with 100+ games a season.

  • I have this game on the ultimate gretzky set but with the canucks television feed

  • haha my birthday is exactly on that day!

  • he is the man the myth the legend.

  • how much did his wife bet he'd brake the record that night?

  • hahahahahaha.thats great.lol

  • i've seen them where i work, wnted to ask her

  • @oakfox1981 Goddamn did I just bust out laughing! HAHAHHAHA

  • He made Kirk McLean famous : D

(saying this as a nucks fan and avid mclean supporter)

  • Oh geez, those spaghetti Canucks jerseys...

  • i watchedthis game

  • Might be breakable someday, but highly unlikely, and definitely not anytime soon.

I think the most unbreakable record of Wayne's is 50 goals in 39 games. Nobody is going to touch that. It's like Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.

  • I think even more unbreakable could be Wayne single season assists record (163), or his career assists record. Someone would need 100 assists a year for 20 years to break that, which is unthinkable. As for 163 assists, no one even gets that many points in a season these days, let alone assists. I'm pretty sure Orr and Lemieux were the only others to ever break 100, and they did it once each (Wayne did it 11 straight seasons).

I agree for goal records though, this could stand for decades.

  • Let's put it this way, take away all of Gretzky's goals and he's still the all-time point leader, that's like saying take Jordan's free throws away and he's still the greatest scorer.

    Wayne Greatzky.

  • LOL THEY STOPPED THE GAME..the other team was like....WHOT THE FOCK we want to play

  • Rory Fitzpatrick could have scored 802 goals if he wanted to.

  • that was a lil much.they cooda did the ceromony AFTER the game.he went on to play 4-5 more years and score like 80 more goals.not like he wasnt gonna break the record.

  • how can they just stop the game for this? strange.

  • eberle is gonna break gretzkys record

  • lol maybe, maybe not but what a clutch player! awesome this christmas!

  • hey the 2 best players its Gretzky and Mario Lemieux

  • Nope, you cant include just those two as the greatest of all time. In my opinion, when you talk about greatest players ever I will tell you 1. Bobby Orr 2. Gretzky 3. Lemieux

  • vinsanity78 ( well crosby isnt doing that good, he injuried, he has been goal less in 13 games, he doesnt seem better then wayne

  • League is much harder now.. you won't see anyone getting 50 goals in 50 games nowadays

  • i actually heard someone tell me they thought there were 2 better players in history than wayne gretzky, one of which sidney crosby.

    funny guy, huh?

  • One of the best Gary Thorne calls ever. What a classic.

  • It's a good call. I was watching Bob Miller and Jim Fox on Prime Ticket, the Kings home broadcast. I still have the video on tape somewhere....need to get it on Youtube for that perspective of it.

  • It hasn't been mentioned that Gretzky's 802nd goal was in a losing cause as the Vancouver Canucks won the game 6-3 over the Los Angeles Kings.

  • amazing i was at this game with my dad but i was only 4 years old at the time...

  • i used to get chills listening to gary thorne do hockey with the passion and emotion in his voice in the big moments like this. we need espn hockey and the thorne-clement team back. i remember watching the rangers-edmonton game that night when adam graves set a rangers record for goals. wayne's record was announced and the crowd gave him a standing ovation even though he was 1300 miles away in californa. always thought that was really cool.

  • lovin the celebration

    running on skates lol

  • does anybody know where the video is for when the oilers won the stanley cup and wayne was being interviewd and they dumped the champangne on his head? or the press conference when he found out he was being traded? i cant find either of them

  • they stopped the game just for this ???

  • ya I know... remember when he scored to break the points record they stopped the game with like 30 secs or something like that

  • Kurri made the pass not mcsorley!!!!He didnt even touch the puck

  • your kidding, right?

  • 802 is a good #

  • Nucks went to the finals..

  • even gretzky couldnt stop canuckss!

  • lol, mcleans prob so pissed

  • no actually he didn't mind. ironic too first nhl goal on a canuck and this one lol!

  • He got 92 goals in 1983-1984 i think

  • nice... not sure I would have interrupted the game though... seems that doing all this after the game would have been better

  • Gretzky scored 92 goals in one 80 game season. He is the best.

  • isn't it 84 goals?

  • Nope, it's 92. 1983-84 season, I think.

  • 81-82... it was the same year he got 50 in 39 games. there'll never be another like him, at any rate...

  • that was a sick goal. im glad he did it on a cool one and not a cheesy one

  • the best simply put, he broke the assist record in only 9 years in the nhl, some guys go 20 years in the nhl and dont even come close. wow

  • Go KINGS!!!

Broke the record When HE WAS IN A KNGS UNIFORM!

  • lol kings suck man

  • Lmao!Your telling me, when we kiked your asses in this Playoff year!

You haven't won a Cup in over 40 YEARS!

  • rite back at you

  • rocket

  • one of the most memorable moments in hockey but the rockey was better

  • Gretzky had the MOST goals, but nobody was a BETTER goal scorer than Maurice Richard....

  • I'll debate that one. The Rocket was the first to score 50, and was one of the most prolific scorers in his era, but no one, NO ONE, has dominated the game in recent memory like Wayne has. Goal scoring, playmaking, all Wayne. And yeah, throw Lemieux, Howe and Orr in there, and you have more arguments.

  • Actually, I think that the greatest pure goal scorer in the history of the NHL is Mike Bossy. He had speed and had a cannon of a shot combined with amazing accuracy. That is a pretty good combination.

  • Gretzky had the most goals, and when you put all the great goal scorers in history, it just about becomes relative. Howe was no slouch with stick and puck, or Lafleur, or Hull, et al. What makes Gretzky so incredible, was that he didn't have much speed, nor catlike quickness like Jagr or Bure, he couldn't bowl you over like Lemieux, yet the guy played the game between the ears better than any of them.

  • Do you think they should have interrupted the game right there for ceremonies? I know it's an historic moment, but I think a post-game celebration would have been better.

  • I still have the video of Prime Ticket's coverage of #802 for Gretzky. I remember seeing this live on TV. I love Bob Miller's call of it better than Gary Thorne. Gretzky's records will stand the test of time.

  • how did he became so fuckin' awesome? :D

gretzky is the hockey-god, no doubt about that

  • Wow... I was at that game. Brings back memories. Thank you for posting this!

  • barry bonds is on roids, and is the shittiest athlete ever. think about it... wayne gretzky definitely is not on roids... 5'10... 150lbs... and with his small stature... THE GREAT ONE

  • after seeing bonds hit 756 last night, i have to say i prefer this. gretz is nothing but class.

  • There's that beautiful moment after he scores where he's skating across the ice on his own... all eyes on him. A truly magical goal.

  • **cricket sounds**

    Aleister77 = BORING! BORING!

  • I wonder what type of Ale did Aleister77 drank...Ginger Ale or the American Pie Pale Ale?

Yeah, Aleister77 drank the American Pie Pale Ale and threw up in the toilet!

  • ROFLMAO! What was that? That was a lame duck argument from you bubba.

You can't beat any of my point of views if you even triple double dog gone dare, you drunken fool.

You don't like celebrations, eh? What's wrong with giving a curtain call after a Home Run? What's wrong with fans throwing hats onto an ice after a hat trick?

Your arguments are pathetic, you little dick pussy. And you're still a watered down punk who needs a lot of cups of SHUT THE F UP!

  • What's wrong with a little special ceremony? They halted for a record. It's not a dark moment.

And Wayne Gretzky was a megastar in the NHL before he was traded to L.A.

  • Hey savoy,

Even when we disagree between the Canucks and Avs, you do a great job posting hockey vids including this one.

Don't let Aleister77 get to you. He can't argue well.

  • Hey Aleister77,

You're the one who needs a chill pill, bubba. What's wrong with a little stoppage for a ceremony? Wayne Gretzky deserved it because he's the greatest player in NHL history. There was a stoppage when Emmitt Smith broke Walter Payton's NFL all-time rushing record.

If you don't like special ceremonies, then just sit quietly and wait for the game to continue.

You're a watered down punk who needs a lot of cups of Shut the F up! Can't beat my point of view.

  • Actually, Wayne Gretzky is Polish Canadian.

  • Wayne Gretzky's marks will be really tough to break.

    2,857 points, 894 goals, 1,963 assists.

  • where is gretzkY from?

  • Canada.

  • Like any major sport, they celebrate the setting of a new record. Since Gretzky scored this 802nd goal to become the #1 Goal scorer in NHL (possibly professional Hockey) history, the league celebrated him for his being number 1. MLB did it for Mark McGwire and his 62nd HR (in 1 season) to break Roger Maris' record. Then they celebrated Barry Bonds for breaking McGwire. But they didn't celebrate Bonds for breaking Babe Ruth's 714 Career HRs because Hank Aaron is #1. Think about that...

  • If Kirk McLean respected Gretzky, he would have made Gretzky work for the goal. Upon closer review of the play, McSorley was deep enough before he passed it to Wayne that Kirk had to cover the left side of the net to take away the angle. Where Gretzky was streaking in was open because of the PP & an incomplete line change scoring on an empty right side of the net. Whether McLean wanted to let it in or not, Gretz and McSorley didn't give him much of a choice.

  • Back then the kings could rip canucks apart but now that most of the kings good players are gone the canucks can own kings.

  • Even better than the goal, the first pass from Gretzky to McSorley...absolutely beautiful

  • It's funny how they go nuts for Gretzky, and boo Robitaille and McSorley.

  • They don't boo.

    It's "LUUUUUUUUC"

  • Booooooourns.

  • hes the best

  • Look at the title, genious : )

  • When was this?

  • i was there when he scored it, im from vancouver, kirk mclean let that one in, cause he respects wayne

  • I doubt that it would have been hard to save even if he was trying

  • thats hot
