Dear NYVoice,Ms.Wright and Mr.Carey aren't the only performers..who look uncomfortable doing this first tv remake of"Miracle On 34th St"? Mr.James Flavin,Mr.Ray Collins(Yes! before he went onto become "Police Lt.Tragg" on "Perry Mason"on CBS TV two years later)Mr.Collins and Mr.Flavin seemed unhappy about doing this show too.
I'm afraid that I made a mistake in regards to the airdate of the second CBS TV adaptation of"Miracle On 34th Street"..It aired on November 27,1959..not 1958.
My apologies to Christmas Fellow and to the users of this site.
Dear Christmas Fellow,There was a second tv version of"Miracle On 34th Street"that aired on CBS TV in 1958.Ed Wynn played "Kris Kringle"on that version.
"THE 20th CENTURY-FOX HOUR" (1955-'57) [which alternated bi-weekly with "THE UNITED STATES STEEL HOUR" on CBS] often refilmed most of its famous theatrical movies in hour-long editions; this was indeed their "Christmas" offering, first telecast on December 14, 1955. The only drawback is that this version omits original host Joseph Cotten's introduction to the story.
This version is spooky. I love Thomas Mitchell but Carey and the lovely Teresa Wright look downright miserable. You'd think they were constipated. The scene (a spoiler) where Kris clubs the guy on the school stage is hilarious! What a lawsuit that would be today.

The description is very informative. I suggest reading it - at the risk of being misinformed.
