  • Brilliant, no other word is able to enter mind seeing this vid. And understanding the lyrics with bit more depth they actually match this vid better than you would think.

One of my fave U2 songs, next to 'Drowning Man' & 'Indian Summer Sky' & 'God Part 2' & 'Twilight' & 'A Sort of Homecoming' & 'Heartland' &....&......&.........&.....indeed, countless of masterpieces in 'the early days'.

  • Claytons bass....

  • man, I love this video as much as the song.. in the beggining I thought it was the official video xD Great job!

  • Man, this is fantastic, better than the official U2 videos that i've ever seen, even the ones made by Anton Corbijn....Are you related to Paul Ferrara, the photogapher that worked with the Doors in the 60s?

  • Nobody truly cares what NEGATIVE critics have to say. Your work is BRILLIANT! Budget is NOT a factor when it comes to quality work. I own a professional production company & often do projects of $1,000 & below. Currently we're working on several television shows. YES indeed these pilots are of EXCELLENT quality & have one director/prodcer with over 30 years experience as a photog/editor for NBC. Envy is quite an UGLY quality to have. Negative critics are merely satisfying themsleves. Pittiful!

  • amazing song. This is very sad and ful of pain.

  • Flawless.

  • You've done an excellent job to one of the best songs ever recorded. Awesome.

  • looks and sounds like someone had recorded this with a camera in front of their TV :S poor reverberating sound quality

  • the bass by Adam Clayton makes this song what it is. Amazing.

  • Very powerful! Well done, James. I think the band if they watched it would like it. :)

  • I've loved this song ever since it came out.....the thrills, the chills, suspence and drama on ground beneath it's melody being ripped apart........somehow. And this video added to this song confirms this atmosphere in a most brilliant way!

    Thanx!!

  • this would have been good for a nirvana song. you could have done smells like teen sprirt, but that said, if you had you would have had to have bigged up on the 'gun in the mouth' bit. but then again the special effects needed to recreate kurt blowing his face to shit would have crippled your budget. - is that why you chose a u2 song instead? ah - i see where youre coming from.

still stinks of film school tho. sorry.

  • wow gold..how good were they?

  • dont let critcs get you down. this may not have been the official video...but it should have been

  • Gsy

  • Great effort!!!

  • Great Job ! Low money and resources . Good Result

  • i didn't know this was fan made till i read the descripton

  • Nice Man!

  • Wank video big shot....$1000 for that, hmmm

  • Muito legal esse video.

  • SUPERB!!!!GREAT JOB IN DEED!!!

  • This song was about an executioner, trying to sort out what he has been doing, looking for compassion in the hopes of redemption for what lives he has taken, though he served what he thought was justice, he still was weighd down with taking peoples lives.

  • Man, I loved it.Grand finale.It's noir...it's great.Congratulations.You're very good behind a camera.

  • Epic.

  • It is wonderful a masterpiece of a video and really fits that era of U2 songs and videos from the Joshua Tree- Rattle and Hum period

  • I loved the video.

  • the best album by U2 by far...very atmospheric.

  • Hmm, I have to agree with Kenmorfdublin...after watching this..you would of done better by shooting it with subject matter that related to the lyrics. The woman and man romance and gun trigger pulling has been done over, not original I'm afraid. I went to film school also and watched many of these type of concept films. Good choice to shoot in B/W though.

  • Don't you think I know that. I too went to film school- where I shot this, and in which sparked my very good 15 year run as a union AC on commercials and movies we've all seen. I shot 16mm film on an Arri 16BL with a non orientable viewfinder. I had two lights, a handmade dolly, friends as a crew, and a budget of about $1000- and that includes the film, processing, and transfer. I also edited the video on LINEAR offline VHS tape to tape. I was also 19 years old when I did this.

  • @jimigraph Ahh Jimi darling, calm down. I appreciate and respect your effort here but if you are going to be an artist, i.e. filmmaker, you'll have to take a little constructive criticism. Everyone gets it now and then.

  • @jimigraph That was a fantastic piece of video making, both in the direction, mood, lighting, pacing and the editing. I am in college at the moment majoring in video. I came to youtube looking for a little inspiration for an upcoming 2min piece i have to produce. Well i have more than found it in this video. Thanks for sharing Jimiraphh.

  • @goofygoat2009 I'd like to see one of YOUR film school videos, upload one?

  • @VibratorsFromDurex I worked in the film industry for many years and have watched MANY music videos, films, shorts, trailers, etc. & have even done script coverage for Paramount Studios. I know what I am talking about. I gave a thumbs up for the B&W..sooo chill the hell out if you cannot take a mere speck of constructive criticism okay? And..you might want to 86 the sexist attitude if you want to keep a woman.

  • @goofygoat2009 Ok, why don't you upload one then BIGSHOT!

  • Not very good I'm afraid.

    Dreadful in fact.

I'm a layman and even I know you don't do the obvious in a video by showing hands, guns etc. to synchronise with the same in the lyrics.

Good video making is to do with subtle subliminal suggestion, that synchronise with the viewers imagination, not crude statements of the obvious as demonstrated here.

  • Best video!!!

  • My love

  • This video is perfect for the song and to me it is the official video

  • Great great video.. but the song is about a priest gone bad......... fyi

  • WOW!

  • what an intense work, good job man!

  • Amazing job. Great video to a great track

  • WOW. Heavy Man !

  • Excellent work! Have you sent this to U2?

  • Great video, BRILLIANT

  • Nice! Why them?

  • amazing! ! ! do more!

  • @u2feeder

    I agree! DO MORE!

  • magistral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm really glad I clicked on this one. Thanks to who posted it.!

  • I ususally dont comment on you tube but i couldnt resist. A really amazing job. one of my favorite and underated U2 songs. you did it more than justice.Excellent!!

  • haunting song

    truly amazing video

  • Brilliant

  • Absolutely fantastic! I can't believe you did this straight out of university - this is better than many mainstream videos currently playing. Thanks for posting! It's a joy watching this.

  • This is better than most other fan videos I've seen. Better than most U2 music videos too, come to think of it! Brilliant job, it's a really powerful and emotional thing you've created, but a bit of a different interpretation of the song's lyrics. I'd always thought it was about a psychotic killer, but this interpretation is much better.

  • absolutely amazing!this shouldve been the actual video!

  • awesome

  • Great!!

Makes me quiet while keeping the attention.

    More please ;-)

  • beautiful just beautiful... you are talented and I hope you go far

  • The Joshua Tree saved 80's music from just being a pop bubble gum era.

  • dude.. way effing better than most..my heart was racing both times he went for the steel..yer gifted with a camera .....music raised to an even higher art

  • i enjoyed that

  • Brilliant.

  • WOW! You have a gift, this is incredible. Very emotional. My favorite song from The Joshua Tree. As astonvila76 states,

a multitude of thanks for sharing this. This will stay with me always.

  • million thousands thanks to you for this great job man

  • Brilliant! Despite the "official" line about what this song is about, I've always felt that it was about a shattered individual with a painful past who wanted his pain to end. This video conveys that with a perfection that I could scarcely have imagined. Powerful and haunting. Well done!

  • I love this!! Has U2 seen it and contacted you? It's brilliant!!

  • i'm sorry I wanted to give a thumb up and I clicked on the wrong icon...

But I totally agree, U2 should give a chance to such talents for their videos !

  • Oh, it's such a pity you didn't go on as a videoclip director, this is the best one I've seen in quite a while... Congratulations, really.

  • the song has another meaning but thats ok too.see u2 rattle and hum documentary

  • Eccellente!

  • Absolutely brilliant video...

  • OMG, I thought it's an official video. Brilliant

  • GREAT JOB! Don't be surprised if U2 calls you to make it their official video.

  • i totally agree

  • A bit of brilliance there.

  • Dude, this is brilliant. Brilliant. If this were official, it would easily be among the best videos U2 have ever done.

  • good video!!! i dont like the studio version of this song but it sounds so good in the rattle and hum movie

  • Wow...I stumbled across your video looking for the clip off of the "Making of The Joshua Tree" video where Daniel Lanois and Bono are sitting at the soundboard, talking about the song. Dude, this was absolutely fucking GREAT. Loved it. Exit is one of my fave U2 songs of all time because of the emotion and that builds up in the song and this captured ALL of it to the T! Well done!

  • I think this song should played a lot in the up coming tour

this is one of the best song by U2

  • that's awesome!

  • that was sweet ass, buddy. i didnt like the girl so much... nothing to do with her, i just thought there was too much hair-flipping, but the guy actor was brilliant. as for the video direction... wow. not amateur at alll. great work!

  • Great job. Very well done.

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!

  • Lovely ! Thank you for sharing this!!

  • Truly Brilliant, Ever think of doing one for Love Is Blindness?

  • I think this song, Zoo Station, Acrobat, Evis Presley and America and Zooropa are the most underrated and most deserving of praise...love this!

  • Very chilling. Lots of emotions and turmoil. Sharp sucession of images that manage to get the point across. Really well done. I'm not surprised you got hired after this. It could completely be on TV. Well done!

  • wow

  • awesome!!! amazing..

  • good vid pal well done

  • amazing song!!

    great video dude

  • Fantastic!

  • nice work.

  • narta11 you REALLY listened to this song a hundred times and never had any idea what the song was about? i find this hard to believe. by the way, i've heard bono say in concert that this song is about a religious man who couldn't solve "the mystery".

  • Death and suicide challenges ones spirituality. If theres no greater mystery to solve within ones religion then I don't know what is. Bravo to the creator of this video...

  • Well, the band should have seen this because it's pure brilliance! Excellent work my friend x

  • i can't find the word between "amazing", "perfect" and "wonderful", to describe this, man.... good job =)

  • omg!!! this is a grteat video i cant believe how great it is

  • when did u make this

    its awesome!!!

  • Masterclass!

  • tout simplement parfait , a en pleurer a chaque fois ..

  • if this isnt the official U2 video

    it should have been.

  • very nicely done, even in black and white classic U2 lol.

  • I remember someone telling me years ago what this song was about, and ever since whenever I heard this song I used to picture someone like this about to commit suicide.....really spooky when I saw the video first, really like it

  • Wow! How original. I've listened to this song a hundred times and had no idea that this is what it was about. It took a genius like you to spell it out for us. What talent. I can totally see how you got some gigs out of this. I mean, your technique is like nothing out there right now. How do you do it?

  • beating,

    Oh my love

    =)

  • This is unbelievable!!!! You are extremely talented!!!

  • I was under the impression it was the official video from U2. Midway through I began to realize it was usermade and my jaw dropped. This is VERY GOOD. Thanx for making it!

  • 'Thee' U2 song.

  • i love this song and your video

  • great song !!!!!

  • this song is so awesome!! <3

  • Excellent! Really captured the song well!

    Glad I came across this.

  • Oh god! Bono's voice, Edge's guitar, Adam's riveting bass is just to die for, Exit is definetly one of my faves

  • This song, is one of the most amazing songs, not only is the story perfectly told by bono, the music finishes the story.. The heartbeat you can hear in the background slowly stopping is crazy !! Amazing work by Adam Clayton

  • great... excellent!!!

  • This video is amazing....dramatic scenery, powerful edit..... congratulations 17 years later!

  • You should send this to Bono, he would probably use it as an official video for the song

  • Nice!

  • WOW this is absolutely amazing, you are very talented

  • Great video!!

  • he wanted to believe in the hands of love...

    My love

    the hands of love

  • I think the acting in this was very extraordinary, very very good job 10/10

  • It is a great video, really a good job...

    This song is amezing...

    from italy ?;)

    U2 are the best

  • nice!....whew

  • nm i found out great job dude you got great skill

  • such a great video but is this an official video from them or is this usermade? either way great job

  • This is spectacular. "Exit" is one of the most underrated U2 songs in their catalogue, I've always loved it, and I wouldn't be surprised to know that images not unlike the ones in this video were in Bono's mind when he penned the lyrics during the 'Tree' sessions. Well done.

  • no sabia que este video existia..

  • what an awesomely powerful video. Thanks for putting it on youtube!

  • Pezzo malinconico e fantastico .... mi mette la pelle d' oca

  • best fuckin tune ever

  • i have always liked this song. must be one of u2's most underrated tunes

  • nice work. well done. :)

  • Excellent!

  • ...great video and song...full of meanings...

    great U2....

  • The person this song is about is Gary Gilmore. He used to live a few miles from my house and one of his murders occurred in was just a couple blocks from where my Grandparent's live in Orem. Good Video :)

  • Great song,in Bullet's style

  • brilliant

  • such an awesome song, a hidden gem for U2 diehards

  • absolutely well done!!!

  • Well done.

  • or to religion.

  • was told once that its about a wild west style shoot out

  • Excellent video - doing a great song justice!

  • Brilliant video, Kudos to you.

  • this band is so fucken good you forget sometimes just how many great songs they have given.

  • Amazing u2 song and a very good video but u2 will never play this song again live which is a shame :( One mans actions wreck our musical pleasure.

  • What happened??

  • I can not remember the exact story but a guy murdered someone then blamed this song as the reason he commited the crime. After the band heard this they decided never to play the song live again. Shame as the song was amazing live :(

  • You're absolutely right...the actress' name was Rebecca Schaeffer... she starred in a TV series called "My Sister Sam"...this maniac called Robert Bardo killed her and then after said that the U2 song "Exit" made him do it....word got back to U2 and they sort of distanced themselves from the song after that

  • Impressive mate i only heard someone was murdered but had no details. Cheers mate :)

  • Excellent!!

    Good work

  • I can't tell you how great and incredibly well done this video... have you still not gotten any feedback from BONO and the gang...

  • this song can mean so many things but what is the meaning?

  • its about lucifer :)

and i think it makes a lot of sense

  • If U2 can get teenagers to listen to their music then they must be pretty fucking good and I am a teenager! My 8 year old cousin loves U2.

  • This album spoke to me when it came out in '87. So powerful. And this song live is something to behold.

  • who's rhianna? Your right about the music nowadays. you know that bands such as U2, Iron Maiden and even Nine Inch Nails will stand the test of time. Not to compare any of these bands to Elvis or the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but they will all still be listened to years after our own deaths...

  • This is music. Everything we've got now, isn't. In ten years noone will remember Rihanna, but we'll still know U2 and such.

  • this is so one of my favourites of U2.

  • AMAZINGGGGG JUST AMAZINGGGG

  • I like teenagers I own one, but if you think that music like "touch my body" and "lollipop" is better than U2 your still young and naive. This generation just has no good writers. Hopefully some artists will grow up and write well soon.

  • I'm a teenager myself, and I believe that this music is WAY better than that shit we have to listen to these days... I've always been a great fan of the 80's , and I thank my mom for introducing this kinda music to me :) Bon Jovi, U2, Guns&Roses, I love them all :D <3

  • I cant agree with u more! :)

  • agreed but you're wrong on the last comment. Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys is an incredible writer. Just because we are saturated with awful pop and rap doesn't mean there isnt some great rock writers out there

  • Heh I'm 19, this band isn't one of your "parent's old people music" this is timeless. I'm thankful that my parents introduced U2 to me, it's changed me in so many ways.

  • I second that...music is NOTHING like it use to be. These cranked out pop junk top 10 crap is NOT music...U2, Pink floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, EAGLES...that MUSIC honey...and Im 26!!!

  • Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Th
