  • it's better than reading that dam book about it :L my mum thought it was church music hehe

  • Parlophone R.5428 from 1965 has the Highway Code part 1 on the A side, and Part 2 on the b side my late father had one, but it was not amongst his things when he died........................ i would love to have it on my MP3 with part 1

  • brilliant, but could somebody please post Highway Code Part 2, i can assure you there is one, on the B side of the single.............

  • The alto line is sung by Prof. George Pratt, who was director of Music at Keele University in the 60s when i was a student

  • This record was produced by the wonderful George Martin, of Beatles fame. Superb!

  • I'm looking for a master singer song Called rumble tum,Can anyone help? if yes please mail me the link

  • @zoik57 I think the Rumbletum song was on the flip side of the highway Code single, if that helps

  • @zoik57 Uploaded now. Search for Rumbletum Song

  • 'Obstruc-cions' - brilliant! Such a warm and funny tribute to the beauty and Englishness of Anglican chanting.

  • Yes some of these Master Singers were tremendous caners. Ask the schoolboys of the 60s

  • Heh heh heh. Anglican Chant is the chewing gum wrapper of liturgical music.

  • What Fun! I have been looking for this, I sang this at a school concert, along with 5 or 6 others. We loved it, I was a soprano then... oh! about 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories. I can just about reach the high notes, but it hurts afterwards. LOL

  • wow very entertaining! Some drivers should be obliged to visit this band's concert at a huge Stadium which would be full of people who have already caused accidents. After listening to them for a few hours, they could be let go...:-)))))

  • fail, dont ever make anything like this ever again, waste of time

  • Reminds me of the many hours I spent pumping the bellows of the organ in church for 2/6d per month !

  • heard it mamy, many years ago and have been looking for it ever since; great find! Ken

  • Great. Reminds me of my days in the local Church choir-Evensong-Nunc Dimitis and Magnificat. Good harmonies.

  • I had this on a Parlophone single in 1966!! It used to get stuck on the 'bus' section which actually sounded hilarious.Wonderfully timeless in a dated sort of way........Sorry....is that too stereotypical??

  • The car at about 1:31 is hilarious. Love these videos. I had never heard of the Master Singers before until someone linked to the Weather Forecast one. Great stuff!

  • yep - heard it on sounds of the 60's too. What a hoot!

  • yeah i neard this on bbc radio 2 aswell , i just had to find it again :D

  • hehe love this! come on how many heard this on bbc radio 2 yesterday so looked it up?! :D

  • yh me to bb2 why im listenng to it now so funny lol

  • Heard this on radio 2 today XD

    Greattttt

  • Is there anywhere I can obtrain a copy of this on CD>

  • I love the thread on this video--not a stereotypical YouTube commenter in sight! It made my afternoon.

  • Heard this today on Radio 2 as a question on Pop Master - very funny

  • Concerning the pitch, bear in mind that the top part is being produced by a countertenor (i.e. alto) rather than a soprano, so it would be a lot easier to transpose down a semitone, or even a tone as in the Weather Forecast.

Concerning the Felton chant, it is often listed as being in C minor rather then E flat. Just in case anyone has difficulty finding it in their Psalters.

  • Absolutely brilliant!!

    Thanks for posting.

  • I have written out the music and pointing - visit my page by clicking on my name if you'd like to download a copy and read along!

For the record, there are 4 chants used here: Havergal in E (transposed to D), E. J. Hopkins in G minor (transposed to F sharp minor), Felton in E flat (single, transposed to D), and J. T. Harris in E Flat (transposed to D). Whee!

  • Brilliant! Although it seems strange that they would have transposed three of the four by a semitone -- are you sure they aren't just using a very low A value?

  • I actually considered that. I think also possible (and more likely) that the playback turntable was slow. But, having no real evidence of it, and knowing that these psalm settings get shifted around so much, I figured, "I hear it in D, I might as well transcribe it in D."

  • any one know where i can get the sheet music for this?

  • just get the highway code for 1966, and transcribe down the psalm music.

  • I do have sheet music for the other Master Singers item that I posted: The Weather forecast. Interested?

  • @tubeyou18a would love to have the dots.

  • @mattiacorda They're standard Anglican chants. You can get books full of them if you know where to look.

  • @mattiacorda Yeah, it's the highway code, get it in the shops, the music is simple cords, but the words are from a very old version of the code. You will be better off copying this down by hand, and if you are good on the guitar of piano, faking it. Have fun. It's a good party piece.

  • @mattiacorda

I can send you this song. Send your email address to elzo.huizing@gmail.com.

BTW: I made the Highway Code slideshow - and the Weather Forecast slideshow)

  • Thanks for posting. Old but not forgotten.

  • Glad to hear it! But did you see the other one by the Master Singers: Weather forecast?

  • lmfao

  • WTF

  • WTF do you mean?

    Have a look at

    Master Singers Weather Forecast...

  • Not in a bad way lol,

    Its just like...

    What the f***... lol

  • I love the way they avoid making the 'sh' sound in 'junction', 'stationary', 'obstruction' etc :-)))

  • You should always use towel - it's very important you use a towel ...

    ... wanna get hi?

    (Towelie, god)

  • "Always use Subways"

  • Both of these are absolutely hysterical in their entirety, but my favorite part is "look right, look left and right again!"

  • Fantastic, Elzo! (Even better than the Weather Forecast)

    Syb

  • Superb Elzo! Jan

  • A classic Elzo! Best wishes for 2008! David.
