Parlophone R.5428 from 1965 has the Highway Code part 1 on the A side, and Part 2 on the b side my late father had one, but it was not amongst his things when he died........................ i would love to have it on my MP3 with part 1
What Fun! I have been looking for this, I sang this at a school concert, along with 5 or 6 others. We loved it, I was a soprano then... oh! about 40 years ago. Thanks for the memories. I can just about reach the high notes, but it hurts afterwards. LOL
wow very entertaining! Some drivers should be obliged to visit this band's concert at a huge Stadium which would be full of people who have already caused accidents. After listening to them for a few hours, they could be let go...:-)))))
I had this on a Parlophone single in 1966!! It used to get stuck on the 'bus' section which actually sounded hilarious.Wonderfully timeless in a dated sort of way........Sorry....is that too stereotypical??
The car at about 1:31 is hilarious. Love these videos. I had never heard of the Master Singers before until someone linked to the Weather Forecast one. Great stuff!
Concerning the pitch, bear in mind that the top part is being produced by a countertenor (i.e. alto) rather than a soprano, so it would be a lot easier to transpose down a semitone, or even a tone as in the Weather Forecast.
Concerning the Felton chant, it is often listed as being in C minor rather then E flat. Just in case anyone has difficulty finding it in their Psalters.
I have written out the music and pointing - visit my page by clicking on my name if you'd like to download a copy and read along!
For the record, there are 4 chants used here: Havergal in E (transposed to D), E. J. Hopkins in G minor (transposed to F sharp minor), Felton in E flat (single, transposed to D), and J. T. Harris in E Flat (transposed to D). Whee!
Brilliant! Although it seems strange that they would have transposed three of the four by a semitone -- are you sure they aren't just using a very low A value?
I actually considered that. I think also possible (and more likely) that the playback turntable was slow. But, having no real evidence of it, and knowing that these psalm settings get shifted around so much, I figured, "I hear it in D, I might as well transcribe it in D."
@mattiacorda Yeah, it's the highway code, get it in the shops, the music is simple cords, but the words are from a very old version of the code. You will be better off copying this down by hand, and if you are good on the guitar of piano, faking it. Have fun. It's a good party piece.
it's better than reading that dam book about it :L my mum thought it was church music hehe

'Obstruc-cions' - brilliant! Such a warm and funny tribute to the beauty and Englishness of Anglican chanting.

Yes some of these Master Singers were tremendous caners. Ask the schoolboys of the 60s

Heh heh heh. Anglican Chant is the chewing gum wrapper of liturgical music.

Great. Reminds me of my days in the local Church choir-Evensong-Nunc Dimitis and Magnificat. Good harmonies.

@mattiacorda They're standard Anglican chants. You can get books full of them if you know where to look.
