Folk metal is shallow trend-music that senses a void of white cultural identity and fills it with racist cartoons. Rhythmically the music isn't far removed from a combination of 80s metal and ska, but it's colored with period instrumentation, and that's good enough for our generation's sordid love affair with irony.
Play this song from 1:54 and compare it to Anathema's song - "Release" (LP: "A fine day to exit"). Do you think it is conincidental similarity or subcouncious inspiration? :-)
@BlackMetalWorld A Pantheist is someone who believes in a higher power, but rejects the personification of said power. They don't worship God, but they worship the energy of the universe, which is probably why it's called Pan-theism, see. It's probably like some unity theory for religions. If there are any Pantheists here who would like to correct me, please do so.
@Kw1q51lv3r not quite right, There is a lot of kinds of pantheists but roughly a pantheist is who identifies the universe (or nature... included us and our deeds) and god.
If it is, is god and god is everything that exists, be it matter, energy, will, mind, intelligence, etc.
@satiricondamian But god is used as a metaphor in Pantheism, rather than belief in an actual deity. However, can Pantheists believe in spirits, reincarnation, and possible afterlife's?
@Evergr3entree It's not necessarily a metaphor, there are those that do actually believe in a deity or "first cause" (it is nothing like the christian and abrahamic divinity though) like would be the case of spinozian pantheism.
@Evergr3entree I think that god for the ancients was just a personification of nature. Survival was a mater of harsh reality for them, and they needed to believe that a higher power was looking after them in a personal way--otherwise, they would have to accept that it was just them alone against the impersonal forces of nature.
I love having a different Agalloch album for every season... Since it's currently summer, I've been listening to the White EP.. falls coming upon us (finally) which means I switch back to The Mantle.. Winter is usually Pale Folklore, and now thats its been released.. Marrow of The Spirit..
my favorite song by them, just because of its ambient nature. not really a fan of their black metal stuff (though I still like most of it), so I'm wondering if there are any other bands that stick to this particular style and do it just as well.
If Agalloch were famous, truly famous, people would consider their lives more, the things they take for granted, the systems that are in place. I wish Agalloch were famous.
i have to say im christian but i think anyone no matter wat they believe can feel power in the music and if u ask me i can believe wat u want who cares about wat other ppl think watever religion u have is shared between u and ur god diety or nature u kno watever helps u feel closer, i may be christian but im not going to try to chove my idia about wat ur religion should be, i think we have a reason to chose and if ppl here have a problem about my religion itl be ignored
I was listening this song today while I was wandering through forests of Finland and one of my dreams was fulfilled! Amazing moment!!! Thanx to Finland and AGALLOCH!
@silversnakeseven What difference does that makes. Its not important from where they are. Music is only important. And you dont see that maybe. I am proud pantheist so this song has much more influence on me. And being deep in the woods, away from humanity and listening to this - its just amazing feeling.
@Morbid666999 The fact that you mentioned Finland specifically suggested that you thought you were listening to the music in the land it was inspired in. Of course where they're from is not important. On a much more serious note, Pantheism? Really? What arguments do you have to support that belief system, as it just sounds silly.
@silversnakeseven One can believe in whatever one wants, as long as they're not extremists... Also, I think that Pantheism is superior to christianity in many ways. Look around you, what you see, is that the result of some "god"? Or is it the result of millions of years of nature struggling to survive, to adapt, to evolve? You are the result of that. Everything you see around you is connected with each other. Also, have Pantheists ever started a war in the name of their deity?
@Tibokio Who mentioned Christianity? I'm an agnostic atheist. And extremism is the only logically consistent form of many religions. Moving beyond that, to "One can believe in whatever one wants": belief is only possible on the basis of evidence (in the case of religion, often in the weak form of evidence of evidence). What I ask is this: what evidence is your belief in pantheism based upon? Given the vague and ineffectual truth claims of pantheism, I doubt any substantial evidences exist.
@silversnakeseven You are right. I think that no religion in this world has real (substantial) evidences to support it. As a matter of fact, all religions were created by man. No? I, myself, am an atheist, but I do like the way Buddhism (the Mahayana, to be precise) thinks. I just think that pantheism is based on how nature struggles to survive, and that everything you see around you is created by nature. So I think that nature can be a "deity" for some people. Anyway, I hope my text makes sense
Hey KSCIAA you should upload some of Agalloch's new tracks if you get the chance and don't mind it. Something about your channel makes the music more enjoyable.

@DiegoKatabian =Thank God(s) Agalloch is not famous.= I don't understand. If Agalloch were more famous then maybe that would mean something, like maybe people would be different than what they are now.
@DiegoKatabian what? Thats so close minded haha just because something is popular dosent make it bad. Agalloch deverves fame and glory and its unfortunate that they dont get the credit they deserve. Maby if they were popular I wouldnt have to drive out to CA to see a live show :/
@YouDumbZombie yep. i agree with him. its not that they dont DESERVE it - - - that deserve is more than 99% of all famous bands right now, but its that the fame gets to them. its a natural human thing. Money make people corrupt.

This is exactly the music I'd like to create. Not to the exact point to which I'd be mimicking Agalloch... But just have this kind of atmosphere, have this kind of power expelling from every note and articulated pattern in my own unique way. Music needs this raw feeling and emotion.
this is diffrent this is not melancolic like anathema this is diffrent this is good this is kick ass dark /doom melancolic? wtf is that ı realy love it hail...
The regular ear, formed by modern day Popular American culture... They have no chance grasping the magnitude of feelings and thought this music can provoke. I rather these men stay underground and pure. Who care's if ol' Jim down the way doesn't aprove of this Epic band xD
I saw them last year here in Paris, as supporting band, so only 50 min of gig..I met them after the show, excellent guys too. hope to see them again, as head-liners. love them
its like OM, mantra... meditation... its the vibration of the universe... to me music has always been symbolic of Tao, the way nature creates itself based upon self simmilar ryhthmic patterns. Perhaps this is my bias... does anyone else feel the same? Any mystics out there?
yeah u r right imo, music is a wonderful way to describe the patterns u can find in all aspects of nature. Everywhere you look, you can see it, again and again and again . This way u can here same patterns that everone is made of. In resonance to this waves u feel what u were, r, an ever will be, whether u r alive or dead. Energy never dies. That´s a natural law. It only tranforms. - Sorry for my bad english^^
i hear ya bro! i myself would like to work harder to get some side project/solo project recordings done myself cause the music i want to create (write at home) follows a darker / doomier / progressive path, as well as lyrical and philosophical paradigm follows a more matured "post black metal" attitude
if i will now the date of my death? i'm going to need just 2 thing, the person that i love, and this song as soundtrack, it's something amazing, something that blow my mind miles and miles away from the earth...
this is the song that got me into agalloch, ive considered myself a pantheist for a long time and i also love music like this. Pantheism is great! Agalloch is great!
And She won't have mercy on you or punish you. She has NO feelings or needs or anything else her creations have but strangely, at the same time, She has all of those together but in a different way. All we humans have to do is make the best of what we've been given. "Protecting" Nature is useless...Protect Her from what? She is the most powerful, wise being in the Universe, for she is Everything. Just try to be reasonable and a nice person and you will have fulfilled her vision.
Everything around us, above us, below us, within us, including ourselves as well as everything else we can't see or hear or feel in general, is the Universe. The Universe is Nature herself. Nature is God, including all of her powers too. That is what I believe in and call God.
I like every song that this band makes.....usually with most bands you like some songs and hate other, but Agalloch has never made a bad song, period!

pretty cool how many people love this! every single comment is positive! shame they arent very known

The regular ear, formed by modern day Popular American culture... They have no chance grasping the magnitude of feelings and thought this music can provoke. I rather these men stay underground and pure. Who care's if ol' Jim down the way doesn't aprove of this Epic band xD

Man, I can smell the elitism from here.

Any mystics out there?
nickcarveth 2 years ago 3
yeah u r right imo, music is a wonderful way to describe the patterns u can find in all aspects of nature. Everywhere you look, you can see it, again and again and again . This way u can here same patterns that everone is made of. In resonance to this waves u feel what u were, r, an ever will be, whether u r alive or dead. Energy never dies. That´s a natural law. It only tranforms. - Sorry for my bad english^^

i hear ya bro! i myself would like to work harder to get some side project/solo project recordings done myself cause the music i want to create (write at home) follows a darker / doomier / progressive path, as well as lyrical and philosophical paradigm follows a more matured "post black metal" attitude
aezeon 1 year ago
@aezeon thats awesome man, gotta love doom and prog... I wish you all the best of luck! \M/

lol, man this music makes me so existential.
I can't help it. It's the only thing without words which feels so insightful.
MikeDecipher 2 years ago
Man... the chanting is so "communicative"... I just can't make out the meaning in words; I can only "feel it" when listening to the song.
Hmm. . . glory.. glory in the way things are. That's a part of what I feel.
Agalloch is a band which can convey an experience through their music so successfully.
Best band ever; hands down.

this one is pretty intense, I enjoy the harmonic singing but i like the growing and singing combined in a song like this old cabin (also by agalloch)
but nonetheless yess.

I just found out that this band is from my hometown.
Their dreary musical aesthetic makes a lot more sense in this new light, hahaha.

this is the song that got me into agalloch, ive considered myself a pantheist for a long time and i also love music like this. Pantheism is great! Agalloch is great!
nickcarveth 2 years ago
Just looked up Pantheism and realized it already was identical to my beliefs already. Pantheism sounds the best really, it makes the most sense.

Wow, the comments for these songs from Agalloch are pretty much the only place where there is intelligent communication between people.

I simply believe in the creative and eternal aspects of the cosmos

I never get tired of this band. Their music is a perfect representation of their dogma.
goonie8 2 years ago 8
what's their dogma?
goldensox 2 years ago 3
their song is not called "pantheist" by pure chance. you might read some of their lyrics.

TuomasLover90 2 years ago 6
excellently put.
A Pagan/Heathen world is a better world in my opinion. I am very much a Pantheist and this belief will remain with me until I die.

couldn't of said it better myself
lordavormer 2 years ago 2
Everything around us, above us, below us, within us, including ourselves as well as everything else we can't see or hear or feel in general, is the Universe. The Universe is Nature herself. Nature is God, including all of her powers too. That is what I believe in and call God.
