Not totally sure but I think Austin's neck and legs were toast by the time Goldberg got to the WWF. Basically from the time that Owen botched the piledriver on him Austin was a major liability to the WWF, and at a certain point both decided it was time for him to step away from the ring. That's why he became commissioner. There's rumblings about a one last match deal with Punk, but that's only because he's had enough time away to recuperate, I think.

This will always be surreal moment as a wrestling fan who grew up watching what the 90's had to offer, even with the dirt sheets today, and all the dream matches we have today, THIS was what people wanted too see in the late 90's, the fact that they tempted tension between the two, made it exciting although in reality you wanted them to be face with one another.
