Ok well for one, its DEER not deers, you have your views on the subject so do hunters. Bad shots happen all the time nothing you can do about it. I have tracked deer though out the night for hours on end with a search party of 8 and not found it. You act like we just leave them be if we dont find them right away. Yes a small number that are lazy do, but for the ones that have a high level of respect and appreciation for the sport do not. Give credit where credit is due.

There are over 1,000,000 deer that are hit by vehicles accross the United States every year. That number only reflects what is reported by those that hit them. How many deer are wounded by car-deer collisions that are not reported? Should we ban vehicles also because they are cruel to deer and make them suffer when impact occurs? Stupid video and argument!
Did you know that the top 10 states with the highest DVA's are the most heavily hunted and its been that way for many years? If hunting is about reducing DVA then why is the fatalities rising? Why is it in Michigan (huge hunting states) have the largest deer population and one of the highest in DVA's. Deer population in some counties are 10 times the size it was in the 70's. I can tell you why because hunters need the large deer herd for recreational killing.
Also because of compensatory rebound effect killing does not work. instead it creates more deer (which the hunting industry knows about and wants that ). It sickened me to the point that I almost quit my job. The suffering was tremendous. Death came very slow to most of the deer population in the area. After the trial period was over, the whitetail population had plummeted to less then 23% of the norm. Again I post. I am a retired conservation officer as well as a avid bow hunter. I was in charge of a tract of land covering about 100 sp. miles of land that had a tempory ban on deer hunting. This was in the northwest corner of Iowa. Over the 2 years I personally witnessed the devasting and horrendious effect that ban created. Starving deeer with deformed antlers, fawns born dead or dying, and disease running panpant. My job was to document the effects.
That was pathetic, nice touch with the sad music though. I've been bowhunting for 25 years and have never had to track a deer more3 then 10 - 15 yards. All were heart shots and 2 lung shots. The deer were dead before I reached them and with in about ten minutes. With the right equipment and skill the "savagery" is less then what a cow goes through for your Big Mac. How many of those do you eat a week?

I am the wife of a bowhunter myself and I see that you say that you do not eat meat. I wonder if you think when you eat a bowl of salad or any vegetable, how many insects, snakes, and other small animals (including baby deer) were killed while those vegetable were being harvested. "ethical" kill the big deer with huge rack to compensate for what they lack between the leg. Carnivore animals kill the weaker, the less strong, sometime they may kill the young but that is all part of wild and how they keep the population in check.

You misunderstand. I'm a bowhunter and biologist. Nature agrees with hunting and without it her ecoystems would begin to collapse within days. Today we stand at the brink of ecological catastrophe not because of hunting, but because of what is basically it's opposite...i.e., industrial agriculture and overpopulation. I refer you to Paul Shepard and deep ecology in general.

I agree that there are far too many "unethical" woundings and kills each year amongst bowhunters, but I do not think that banning the sport is the right thing to do. Archery Hunting has been in my family for many years and we always follow one important rule...if you are not 100% sure you are going to hit the heart, don't shoot. In other words, hunters should be proficient archers before hitting the woods, to be sure they are killing the animal in the most honorable fashion.

A study conducted in california found that deer shot in the chest cavity by a 30-06 expires in about 23.7 seconds and a bowshot to the chest cavity expired in 30 secons. not much of a diffrence. The gunshot deer ra an average of 70 yrds and the bowshot deer never made it over 100. Both are affective management tools. Its all about shot placement and hunter ethics and above all commen sense
I have seen both shot gun and bowkilling and the bowshot animal never goes down fast. Never. In gun shot most does but even those I have seen suffering and agonizing death. Both are horrific but nothing like in bowkilling.

Loosing? I live in the south and the state I live in just bought more land for us hunters to enjoy. We have one of the longest and most generous hunting season of all the states. I don't kill for sport either. I provide food for my family. Food that I know is free of steroids. Food that at least had the chance to live a free life and not enclosed in a pen. True I have mounted animals and fish in my den. I consider the ones on my walls trophies. Some are not trophies and are simple on my walls because they were my first. I heard Wildlife killers say that buck meat is not that great so that is where most of the meat is dumped to the pantries. Most of the bowkillers kill the buck deer not the doe so you think you can fool thepublic with your lies but many more are seeing right thru it all.
68,000 wounded deer was unrecovered by wildlife killers in 2008 season in Wisconsin alone. Imagine the pain and suffering you people have caused to millions of innocent sentient life?
Losing??? I live in a state where just deer season starts in Oct and runs until the end of January. We are allowed up to two (2) deer every day of the season. That comes to over two hundred deer a year for hunters in my state. Losing? That would be you.

I hunt with crossbow, I've hit 3 deer but only recovered one. I feel bad about it, and I may stop hunting eventually. But I do enjoy shooting bows and guns and being out in the woods. I have mixed feelings about it but I don't like to BS. Hunting isn't about keeping populations down, it's about enjoying hunting. Deer were nearly extinct in Maryland until they were reintroduced for the purpose of hunting.

I have seen the video on youtube uploaded by wildlife killers and about 90% of the deer that got hit is not "quick" death. The arrow hits the body and they run, I have seen several videos of bow killed deer (even shot gun) but mostly bowhit deer thrashing in pain some crying. It breaks my heart that these animals have to die this way because some human scums feel the need to destroy life maybe because they an angry nobodies and feel need to take it out on living creatures.

I am a bowhunter... I agree that the study is inaccurate & therefore shouldnt be considered but, It is a start... If these studys continue & then taught to upcoming hunters - The ethics of making a vital shot & recovering a wounded animal would lower this rate...

Did you know that the top 10 states with the highest DVA's are the most heavily hunted and its been that way for many years? If hunting is about reducing DVA then why is the fatalities rising? Why is it in Michigan (huge hunting states) have the largest deer population and one of the highest in DVA's. Deer population in some counties are 10 times the size it was in the 70's. I can tell you why because hunters need the large deer herd for recreational killing.

It sickened me to the point that I almost quit my job. The suffering was tremendous. Death came very slow to most of the deer population in the area. After the trial period was over, the whitetail population had plummeted to less then 23% of the norm. Had it not been for the effort of hunting organizations and local farmers there would be NO deer at all. So, you stay on your side of the fence and Ill stay on mine with hunters that care. Again I post. I am a retired conservation officer as well as a avid bow hunter. I was in charge of a tract of land covering about 100 sp. miles of land that had a tempory ban on deer hunting. This was in the northwest corner of Iowa. Over the 2 years I personally witnessed the devasting and horrendious effect that ban created. Starving deeer with deformed antlers, fawns born dead or dying, and disease running panpant. My job was to document the effects.

That was pathetic, nice touch with the sad music though. I've been bowhunting for 25 years and have never had to track a deer more3 then 10 - 15 yards. All were heart shots and 2 lung shots. The deer were dead before I reached them and with in about ten minutes. With the right equipment and skill the "savagery" is less then what a cow goes through for your Big Mac. How many of those do you eat a week?

I am the wife of a bowhunter myself and I see that you say that you do not eat meat. I wonder if you think when you eat a bowl of salad or any vegetable, how many insects, snakes, and other small animals (including baby deer) were killed while those vegetable were being harvested. The numbers are far greater that the number of deer killed every year. If you are going to defend life I think you should go all the way not just what you feel like dwelling on this month.

Humanizing animals is always a sign of mental illness. It's displayed constantly by anti-hunters. They attmept to scientifically disprove hunting, then, when that fails as it always does, rely on humanizing the animals and attempting to use 'guilt' as a weapon. I think DNR aew encouraging all wildlife killers to always mentioned "eating the meat" because they know they have no more excuses left and the only hope is that people think their killing if food "food" when we all know that especially in bowkilling that is not so. Today we stand at the brink of ecological catastrophe not because of hunting, but because of what is basically it's opposite...i.e., industrial agriculture and overpopulation. I agree that there are far too many "unethical" woundings and kills each year amongst bowhunters, but I do not think that banning the sport is the right thing to do. Archery Hunting has been in my family for many years and we always follow one important rule...if you are not 100% sure you are going to hit the heart, don't shoot. In other words, hunters should be proficient archers before hitting the woods, to be sure they are killing the animal in the most honorable fashion.

A study conducted in california found that deer shot in the chest cavity by a 30-06 expires in about 23.7 seconds and a bowshot to the chest cavity expired in 30 secons. not much of a diffrence. The gunshot deer ra an average of 70 yrds and the bowshot deer never made it over 100. Both are affective management tools. Its all about shot placement and hunter ethics and above all commen sense

Yea! You just have to complete a hunters education course and take an examinations that is offered by the DCNR. I believe the minimum is sixteen class hours taught by a certified instructor. I have also visited some 'hunting' forums one was called 'have you ever shot a deer that been shot before" and proves that so many deer are left wounded , some with serious infection. I don't kill for sport either. I provide food for my family. Food that I know is free of steroids. Food that at least had the chance to live a free life and not enclosed in a pen. True I have mounted animals and fish in my den. I consider the ones on my walls trophies. Some are not trophies and are simple on my walls because they were my first. I can recall every detail about those successful hunts. I'm proud to be a hunter and provider of food for my family.

Losing??? I live in a state where just deer season starts in Oct and runs until the end of January. We are allowed up to two (2) deer every day of the season. That comes to over two hundred deer a year for hunters in my state. Losing? That would be you.

I hunt with crossbow, I've hit 3 deer but only recovered one. I feel bad about it, and I may stop hunting eventually. But I do enjoy shooting bows and guns and being out in the woods. I have mixed feelings about it but I don't like to BS. Hunting isn't about keeping populations down, it's about enjoying hunting. Deer were nearly extinct in Maryland until they were reintroduced for the purpose of hunting.

I have seen the video on youtube uploaded by wildlife killers and about 90% of the deer that got hit is not "quick" death. The arrow hits the body and they run, I have seen several videos of bow killed deer (even shot gun) but mostly bowhit deer thrashing in pain some crying. It breaks my heart that these animals have to die this way because some human scums feel the need to destroy life maybe because they an angry nobodies and feel need to take it out on living creatures.
