Ssd and win xp are NOT really meant to be together. win 7 is designed to make sure ssd's run at their best and NOT degrade as much in performance, let alone longevity, over time. Just fork out the bucks and get win 7 or win 7 pro x64 and save your self alot of tweaking headache..and also NOT have to worry if all those Xp tweaks will allow your ssd to function longer than one to two measly years.
i don't see why everyone is in such a rush to have an uber expensive hd setup just to affect load times, most of which are miniscule anyway besides booting up, has no significant affect whatsoever on game performance. oh yeah and people who think having 2 hard drives somehow makes them fucking invincible when they surf the net. surfs up retards, surfs up.
i don't see why everyone is in such a rush to have an uber expensive hd setup just to affect load times, most of which are miniscule anyway besides booting up, has no significant affect whatsoever on game performance. oh yeah and people who think having 2 hard drives somehow makes them fucking invincible when they surf the net. surfs up retards, surfs up.
There is no difference in speed if you install a fresh copy of windows either in SSD or IDE or SATA. It only make a differences if you install a program like Photoshop, Adobe Primere and other Heavy programs.
@lolopit: that's my point; fresh install = low boot times. One can't make a real comparision between HDDs and SSDs until it gets closer to the "real world" scenario.
And that means lots of applications installed, not a fresh install.
However, SSDs ARE WAY faster than HDDs, for "real world" usage. Mostly, anyways. From my experience, it varies from 5x to 34x in speed (faster than HDDs).
Wait, wait...no anti-virus? OK, SP3, but no real applications? I mean, DB+web+file server, or, if that person does not work with that, it's OK to assume they work with some kind of Office (which I can't see in the video as well), or listen to some music, chat in MSN, not to mention web browsing, perhaps a Photoshop, all of which I didn't see initializing in the video, so I don't consider that a valid demonstration. But yes, SSDs are, perhaps, the next wonder in computing. Very fast!
Dude read the description ffs..."right after the install of XP SP3". No shit there's no other programs to load. Read before making pointless comments...
OK. I got SSDs (Intel, not Samsung) booting my PC, here. It's not much different from what I saw in this video. I got (SP3, plus) DVD drive emulation software, anti-virus, anti-spyware, web server, DB server, MSN, mail client, no-break software, etc, etc, etc...
5 seconds to boot, compared to these +/- 3s (windows loading screen only, POST not considered)
Yeah that is pretty awesome. SSD's are definitely the way to go these days but I'll be sticking with my 1TB WD Black's until the price goes down and capacity goes up significantly on the SSD's.
Also, why don't you post a video of your setup booting if you want to show a demonstration of real SSD power since this vid is seemingly not up to par?
You gave me an idea...I'll install a Windows XP, Vista or 7 in a virtual box and record it (it's easier than using my old cam); perhaps it'll be a better aproach, if I also install every "garbage" I have here, lol.
for once we can make Windows startup as fast as it should, simply having alot of RAM and a fast processor is not enough, hard disk drives have been the major performance bottleneck for years.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not. But boot times also depends on what kind of system you have. Depending on what kind of motherboard you use, your start up time may vary.
not as fast. trust me... this vid author should post one with programs in it to see how fast it still works. (note, the author mentions that he/she recorded this right after fresh installment....)
Mine takes 30-40 seconds to boot up XP,and about 1 min to boot up Windows 7.But it really doesnt compare to the 3 min that took my Pentium 1 133mhz to boot up windows 98!
What I meant was there isn't much of a software catalogue available on any Linux distro. I've used both Ubuntu and Xubuntu, but they're only capable of IRC and web browsing. Linux is probably ok for netbooks and programmers, but for anything else... no.
google earth, office software, torrents, multimedia, downloading, VOIP. The only things that it cant do are games, and viruses wine is getting better all the time
Don't be stupid. Most Linux distributions offer automated installation of over 20.000 programs via their own package manager. The rest of the uncountable number of programs available for Linux you can install by hand.
If you need image manipulation you can use GIMP natively or Photoshop via Wine or Crossover, some of the other win API emulators or in a virtual windows installation.
20 000 amateurish, usually unusable programs. Most of them are for engineers and coders, not for creative people. Which brings up the subject of GIMP, which is just hilariously bad.
And why run Photoshop through an emulator, when you can run it on native Windows or OS X?
it's a fresh installed windows, no antivirus no firewall and so on, usually fresh installed windows boots fast... but with an ssd it boots even faster.
Windows 8 boots faster.
