I sang this with District Choir and Men's Ensemble last, and it is one of my all-time favorite men's pieces. The solo we had, the violin, the recent deaths in my family, it all brought tears to my eyes, and it still does.
How can a song as beautiful as this receive one dislike. One thing i am sure is that i strongly dislike that one person and say that he has no taste in music whatsoever.
@Jacxk101 I know. I was saying that whoever does something like that and thinks it's funny but it's not. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was not implying that you thought it was funny. Sorry if you thought it was that way.
the first time i heard this song was at my choir concert. && at the rehersals i really never listened to it. but when i listened to it at the concert, i almost started crying :/ ever since learning about the holocaust && all that stuff, listening about death && wars is really hard to deal with.
I love this song.. I remember the first time i heard it. I was practicing for a state chior preformance for region all state.. :) I love this song. It first reminded me of my grandpa, so later that night when the tinners and bases sang this song, the alto and sepranos were watching them from stage, i almost started crying. I then talked to my aunt afterwards and she said it reminded her of my grandpa who recently died (Her dad) thanks for posting. :) Love this song. So touching. So true. :)
you know it is so sad to have seen so much loss till now and then it just breaks us all . i'm all for the cause but not the deaths of ALL THAT HAVE LOST THIER LIFE!!!!!! it's not worth it at times.. they never had a chance on both sides. now these days god is all you live for.
This song always makes me cry. I think it's so beautful. I'm glad that our choir directer made the boys of our choir sing it last year. It showed everyone in our school the fierce heartbreak of war, and how much our soilders go through just to keep our country safe.
This song always makes me cry. I think it's so beautful. I'm glad that our choir directer made the boys of our choir sing it last year. It showed everyone in our school the fierce heartbreak of war, and how much our soilders go through just to keep our country safe.
I watched a group of six young men sing selections of songs from "Civil War" last year. When they sang this song, I watched as every person in that room teared up, many of whom were grown men. It's truely powerful to watch young men (such as high schoolers) perform this with so much emotion, and to remember that the boys in the Civil War were not much older, if older, than those singing. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece.
Our high school had the choir sing this during our veteran's day assembly. Gail Halvorsen was there. :) that was so cool and everyone was crying when the choir sang this song.
@Limazulu85 Actually, they were trying to get the point across, since obviously nothing else is pentrating your thick and ugly skull. Why don't you go insult someone who cares?
@Limazulu85 as much as you may not have put it nicely...im gonna have to agree it is a rather slow song it needs to pick up a bit great tune though..lyrics are strong
@Limazulu85 This piece is a dying boy telling his father that he loves him and that he'll always be proud. It is so touching. It makes me truely sad that you do not realize the emotion and reverence in this song. The boys that died in the Civil War were between 14-18, many younger than that even. Please reflect on the meaning of the song and its message next time before you say something.
We played this song at my brothers' funeral. I played the piano part for him and sang the suprano part. He would have liked it. He died jsut a year or so ago. I miss him every day and sing this song all the time for him. I miss you Charley! And we're all very proud of you.
i heard this song for the first time just last week... my son's middle school chorus did it as part of their spring concert. they sounded great, and i had to look it up. great song!!!!
The guys in our choir are singing this for our Veteran's Day program. I heard them practicing it the other day and got teary-eyed. It's such a beautiful song!
The boys in my choir are singing this... I cry EVERY time I hear it, even though I have heard it hundreds of times as they practice it, it is SO profound... *wipes eyes*
Im gonna sing this song for choir. This is such a gorgoues song and it sucks cause this tone deaf guy is gonna sing the solo. My teacher had to arrange it to treble choir because we only have 2 boys but it sucks cause the guy who has the solo is ginna ruin the whole song!!! anywyas its a beautiful song
yes i obviously do seeing as im a voice major at a university right now. if you are unable to think critically then perhaps you should just keep your mouth shut instead of giving false hope to people without talent.
If bu wanna have this song i highly suggesting searching out John Barrowman's version. It's much better in my honest opinion, more stronger and beautiful voice, this fella seems a bit strained but Barrowman sings it really well
Singer is Kevin Sharp. It's from the Broadway musical The Civil War by Frank Wildhorn (of Scarlett Pimpernel, Jekyll & Hyde etc). Many of the song lyrics in the CD are actually based on or directly taken from old Civil War era letters/speeches/diaries of those who lived & died in that war. Also has brief excerpts of famous historical speeches. These poignant sentiments are sadly, still very much relevant considering the endless wars humanity is engaged in all around the world. Great CD.
I absolutely love this song. Its so beautiful. I do a lot of Civil War Reenactments as a Southern Bell. I've seen a lot of battles even though they are fake, it makes me cry. No one should fight like that. If we could get along with each other, we wouldn't have such a thing as the Civil War and the war in Irac (which one of my uncles might be sent out there soon.) But none the less, this is a gorgeous song with touching words and a good story behind it. Good work to whoever made this video.
To be fair i've done some historical events and the skirmishes/battles are so quick and fast paced (maybe)half those guys who died wouldent have known what hit them. I've been to Antietam and Gettysburg and made a video on here..same places as in the origional photos..no bodies now
