I have a yearly war going on with coons, I've tried all sorts of things. I just bought 6 of the Duke's dog proof traps. Thanks for some great tips! OK, you little b@#^a&*s bring it on !!!

@Coonhunting321 They would but check your regulations because here they have to be checked daily. If you can't get to them daily try something like a 220 conibear bucket set.

Don`t they damage their legs in the trap? and why u let them go`? you catch them for the fur or are they concidered as pests?

@FishHunt95 those dog proof traps are made to do minimal damage, its just a curved piece of metal that holds their leg in place and he probably lets some go because they are unharmed and the smaller coon are worth alot less in the fur market

@threeby8887 My ever so loved Golden Retriever was bitten by a coon in the middle of the day that i witnessed.....got distemper and had to be put down......horrible site.....we have so many coons, its amazing......day or night, i shoot them all.....

@sendittobryce I'm so sorry about your dog. If that happened to my dog I would be on a 24-hour search-and-destroy mission to shoot all of the ratcoons in the area.

@sendittobryce Thats terrible. I have two goldens myself. My dad and I used to do a lot of nuisance coon trapping and were called out to see some very sick animals creating very dangerous situations. Trapping is an excellent too to keep them in check.

I find the fish stuff to really bring in the coon. Wasted too much time with the sweet baits till late fall early winter and caught half the coon I should have caught. Anti... Coon want solid stuff as the weather gets colder, don't forget it. BBQ sauce mixed in with anything works good too.(Chicken Rib kind) Now with this mild weather can't keep them away..lol

@79Testo They can't help but fall in love, I think it's the name haha. Good advice!  Great to hear your trappings going well. It's been an unusually mild winter here for sure. Concentrating on a little nighttime coyote hunting now. The wind boned me last night but I baited a spot at 1 in the afternoon and by 6 when I got there to hunt it was gone. Half a sled full of deer scraps licked clean.

Cool vid Cory. We have a coon problem @ my cousins ranch too. They also steal the deer corn & trip the hog traps. My uncle has a coworker who will give him 10 per coon but he wants to meat not the fur. He says just to leave a foot on him for identification. Some days steak, some days coon. Lol. What ever floats your boat.
