"softwarecenter" download ccsm, i try and ccsm is not more in 11.10, also gone is system manager.

what the fuck man, i can't change the unity bar. fuck ubuntu.

It didn't come back for me either. I had to press alt+F2 to get it back, then change the settrings back to what they were. Someone should get this video "Hide the Unity Bar in Ubuntu 11.10! (EASY!) " off this website.

Excellent tip. I'm still on 10.04 with Docky on left (autohide) and AWN at the bottom. Tempted to just use gnome-shell with the same set-up but might try Unity without the bar. Thanks.
