I am a catch & Release guy, I don't keep any fish. I caught and released 122 legal bass this past season, 22" small mouth the largest. I keep a fishing logue every year.
It sure would be nice to see some of these big fish released... Killing them is only going to destroy the rock fishery. Not only are you harvesting major spawners but also you're taking out the genetics that make the rock fishery so amazing! I wish more people understood this. Everyone has an excuse for killing these fish (i.e. wouldn't survive if released, mounting, etc.). The truth is lake trout can be released if played slowly and replicas beat a dried out skin mount any day!
If you want to see the fish being released all you have to do is go fishing with us. All of the big ones go back with 2 exceptions: 1) if the fish dies, which is pretty rare; or 2) if the guy wants to get it mounted, which is also rare.
Very cool... I'm glad to hear that! I know other captains that fish out there that don't share the same conservation mindset. I hope that will change with time. Thanks for your reply.
@twhite101 This C&R is now coming over to Germany, where it is striktly prohibited. Fish are no "toyz for big boyz". If I go fishing , I prefere "Catch and EAT", and I don´t take more as I can eat! Why you Americans spread bullshit and war all over the world? Keep it in your stolen country, we don´t need it!
@twhite101 seriously, get used to it, its life and thats what people do, you gotta nice catch like this u wanna mount it or eat it, or some people may let it go... btw u have no clue what they did with it..
30 yrs old? well mabye but the bigger the fish does not not mean older they have genetic differences just like us, plus environmental factors, so bigger=older means andre the giant was like 300yrs old!
i live in chicago and i love fishing on lake michigan. but ive only seen two fish that might rival your catch. youre lake trout is a great catch and a good looking fish congrats!
i have acsess to a private lake via canoe ONLY. and had no idea for the longest time that it contained lakers until i hooked one up almost by accident fishing with a crankbait. It wasnt big but its a very deep lake and i have reson to belive there might be some monsters in there. problem is i dont own a down rigger or electric motor therefore trolling is not really an option. does anyone have any tips on how i can catch some lakers from a canoe without a down rigger? thanks in advance.
pretty nice, ive seen, last week i saw the biggest ever, it weighed 53 punds and fr the nose to the tail 47 inches long an inch short to 4 ft it was the winner 10 grand.
@zmiali that was the largest caught with normal tackle one was caught in a net that weighed 102 pounds i think it was in northern canada but im not posotive where.

@jangus894 but when the average temperature at depth is as frickin cold as Superior, those fish will be very old.
wickers06 8 months ago
@jangus894 That fish was at least 30 years old, if not more.
