@TebooTedMarshall About frozen beef heart it is best to defrost it atleast a little bt before feeding this makes it eazier for the fish to eat it the down side is it will be a little messy so many people throw it in frozen so it stay in one piece
would a thirty gallon tank be big enough to house him the only thing in it is a dragon goby and it seems to have plenty of space(it looks more like a 40 gallon tank) i also have a cory dora but if hes eatin not to be mean but not a big deal
@j1nxowner I've got 1 and mine has always eaten flake food.. after a few months i told my local fish shop that I've got 1 and he said I should give it bloodworm but then went on to say that if its been eating flake food for a few months and theres no problems then it can carry on with flakes... I've had it for over a year now..
simple answer should of been yes but I thought I should go into detail
Oh my, what a beautiful BGK! We have a little one in our 125gal tank. Well, it's not little little, but still a youngin :) I can't wait for it to get big like that one though! They have the cutest faces :D
D= but why? are u a breeder? doesnt matter anyways its ur choice. wat kind of blood worms did u feed him? frozen or if there is even fresh? uhh mine tore through a tiny cubed frozen one but thats the first time i saw him eat for like half a week! my first half a week too and i was so glad i through the other half of the cube in, glad he didnt snack on my pleco or 2 angels on the way XD i am going to go through frozen pack before i try..not frozen...if its even any "better" or what ever he likes!
hey jarkkofan you shouldnt worry about about your tank size. I have a 44 gal pentagon corner tank that i just started and i bought 3 of these guys. they dont grow fast so you really have nothing o worry about. my Cichlids will most likely outgrow em before they even grow an inch. go get one man =D
Do you think those black ghost won't eat 1 month old guppies??? I had mine extinguished eventhough they were smart at hiding and running away from neons and rainbows...I felt so sad
does your blackghost eats neon tetras??? it seems my 1 month old guppy kids has been eaten by my two 10cm blackghosts...there were 7 of them, only one who were growing bit faster than most were left unharmed.... I am so sad...it was my uncle who recommend me to buy those two ghosts...He told me that it won't eat those guppies but seems like they did....
what do you experience with those little fishes or are some a bit more predatory???
Very nice knife! Mine has developed his own way to eat. I only feed him every other day due to his diet but he gets mad that other fish on flake food get feed every day. Now he swims upsidedown and backwards along the top and eats all the flakes! I am not underfeeding him he is just a pig! haha. Him and my two dojo loaches are my favorite fish to watch. They the most personality of any fish I have ever owned.
I have a 650 liter AQ, and would say its the minimum size to keep this fish. I have 2 one about 15-20cm and other +30cm. Very teritorial and aggressive towards other likes, so you need a lot of hiding places for each fish... Eats about everything you feed it:) If he doesnt like it he wont eat it:P
Thanks for the reply, also I have a ghost knife, zebra loach, angel, ram and three rosy barbs in my spacious, planted 29gal. Do you reccomend me getting a couple of neon tetra or cardinal? If so, which one? Thanks again. (you should show an updated version of your tank :)
Many say that the BGK hunts tetras, but I haven`t seen this. I would prefere to have the cardinals. They are more beautiful and "everyone" has the neons.
i need some help im re doing m tank all fresh with new fish how does this sound all together black ghost knife platies mollies siamese fighter golden apple snail and a pleco
Well in mine i have a blck ghost, fire eel, african butterfly,2 ropefishes, weather loach, red tail shark,a pleco, algua eater and 2 albinos cleaning ugly fishes...and they all get along real great
Hey thanks, I found the perfect place to buy a BGK, theyre very active there. I got two last questions. First one, will a fire eel eat neons, mine are like half an inch long. And the second one, how big is your tank?
I don`t think a fire eel will eat neons. My tank is 240 liters, which is way to small for a big BGK, so I`m scouting for someone with a big tank to give him a new home.
Great BGK, those fish are so cool. I have a quick question.
Im getting a new 40 gallon tank this summer and I wanted to know if an Elephant nose, Ghost Knife, and a Fire eel will get along? I heard that the ghost knife and elephant nose are really friendly and get along great with each other and fish like platies, neons, etc.
How would a 79 gal not be good enough for a 12 inch fish? I can understand about not housing alot of them together but have you ever seen breeding tanks that house hundreds of them and they are just as healthy as if they were housed alone.
Like sgbbe said it should be okay , I had two in a 55 gal and there wasnt enough room to each esatblish territory, the smaller one eventually died probably had a hard time feeding because of the sonar.
Hey, you have a very nice tank, in all your videos of you knife it looks like hes getting bigger. how many of those could i put in a 38-gallon tank? and i was thinking 3?
They say you should never have more tha one BGK in a tank, because the electric signals they send out disturbe the others. A 38G tank is also way to small for a fish like this. They get very big and need the space. They sould at least be in a 130G tank.
your tank is awesome. It's on my favorite's. Do you think the following mix of fish will work/look nice? - 1 BGK, 1 reticulated stingray, large shoal of serpae tetras, a pair of red crayfish, 1 reed/rope fish, and possibly a pair of discus. With driftwood, plants, and white sand.
thanks for your help. I 'll try getting a cheap discus and if it lives, I'll trade for a good looking, expensive one. btw, i'm not getting a reed fish, but a fire eel instead.
ok so it might be ok if i get a biggfer tank? I want a tank set up like yours that was the idea those would just be the main fish I was just worried that the white ips were just a bit to rambunctous for the needle fish and knife. but thanks for the help cool tank and nice vid
I started with eight baby black ghosts in a 75-gallon tank, with no other fish in the tank at all. It's been fifteen years now, and I have two left, one of which has grown to a pretty massive 16 inches in length. They're by and large peaceful, but I have seen them fighting each other and that can get pretty brutal as they jockey for territory in the tank.
I`m not sure. In my experience the black ghost is a peaceful fish, but each speciment can have different behavior. A 50 gal tank will eventually be to smal, because this fish grows big fast.
you have beautiful fish hey. i love my ghost knife's and i had one at almost 20 cms so to hear yours are so big and they're very healthy one question though...what are you feeding it? they love it! mine takes frozen blood worms from me so i was curious. ne ways great fish!

There is no such thing as a spacious 29 gal. You'll need at least 100 gal within a year, as it'll be nearly a foot long by then.

hey is is ok to put a black ghost knife in a 50 gal. tank with 3 white tip sharks and a needle fish or will they kill each other?

I`m not sure. In my experience the black ghost is a peaceful fish, but each speciment can have different behavior. A 50 gal tank will eventually be to smal, because this fish grows big fast.

I'm sorry but eventually all of your neon tetras will be eaten by the ghost knife.

I don`t think so. He`s quite peaceful and gets plenty of food. My tetras are cardinal tetras. They get bigger than neons.
