I guess this must be around late 1988 as he is talking about directing the next Star Trek feature which came out in 1989. It is scary what age does...love Bill but he does'nt look too great today!
'MR" shatner that guy is just a clever post middle age grown up teenage punk! very good at acting like you want him to be a manly man a person of depth and culture anything but what he really is he can appear to be. he is truly a hypocrite!
The most interesting part of this interview, for me, is when he says, I think in response to the silly what would your classmates say about. you question:
"The clown who tried to be serious."
I think that he that he is actually far more gifted as a comedic actor than as a dramatic one. I'm only a few years too young to have missed the original first run of Star Trek , so I guess that makes me a little slow. Sorry.
You can see Bill wasn´t a happy man at this point in his life.Today he is happy in marriage and you can see it in his charachter now.Always laughing and joking...
I don't know if I'd agree with that assertion. Bill in the 80s was a very 'serious' person, he took everything very seriously, especially his acting. If you read his memoirs, he pretty much says as much. Now that he's older, he's just enjoying his acting more and has dropped a lot of the defenses he often had up earlier in his life. I think after his wife died, he had a bit of an awakening and realized you can't take things so seriously.
Of course, only the students call it the Shatner building; its not official because hes never actually given the school any money...but he is still amazing haha
Mr Shatner is the same as the rest of us I think, in regards to the past. the older we get the sweeter it seemed. The angst fades away leaving the sweetness. Looking back, the grins remain, as we shake our heads sometimes and say "I cant believe I done that!"
Thank you Mr Shatner for so many entertaining hours and memories. My childhood wouldnt have been the same without you and Captain Kirk.
This Shows you that a man that gets remembered by One Character then as an Actor.
But William Allen Shatner wanted more after Startrek. But StarTrek never left Like Harry Potter That Kid will always be Harry Potter.
Bill is still pissed, but can't complain about the money that comes with it. This is one way of Fame. Be The First Man on the Moon and Get NOTHING or Play a Space Man Forever.
yeah, William Shatner looks sad in this interview, and very calm, and he's really bringing out his intelligent side here. But still, he seems just kinda sad. And he is probably upset about not having more than Star Trek, but he did a great job as Kirk and as Denny Crane too in Boston Legal. But Kirk will always be a part of him and what we remember him for. He's better off then the people who didn't make it as far as him, he did alright for sure!
He seems kind of depressed here...

Actually for being 78, I'd say he looks pretty damn good.

@yourmothaq
He wasn't 78 in this interview. He's much chubbier today.
I would say it was made sometime in the 80s because reference is made to T.J. Hooker and he was in that series from 1982 to 86.
