  • You've got the same gas mask. Looks great!

  • that was amazing

  • whats the beggining soundtrack u used?

  • @freefallproductions3 most of the music for this short is by mooze from the s.t.a.l.k.e.r soundtrack. for specific song names, at about 8:54 lists them in the credits

  • Very very very good! Respect!

  • that was great!

  • why this movie is silet- lol charlie chaplin anyway 5/5 for the awsome movie like look

  • Really great movie! but the quality...im are really impress! its goddamn good quality in this movie! :) Greetings from sweden!

  • hey, where did you get the guitar song at the end from? or did you play it yourself?

    btw great movie

  • @ManiacMovieGroup thanks!

that is from the game s.t.a.l.k.e.r. shadow of chernobyl. there are a few videos, and download links somewhere here on youtube

  • great work

please take time to view our movies ...

    thankyou

  • question for u

what program do u use to capture the footage?

    does final cut work?

  • yeah, i just import through final cut express. with hd footage, it breaks it apart automatically into clips every time you cut to a new shot

  • where can you buy a wide angled lens....and which camera is better....Hg10 or Hv20

  • sorry i guess the comment didn't go through.

but i would definitely go for an hv20 over an hg10. the main difference is with an hg10 is that it has a hard disk drive, instead of tapes. so when you fill up all of the space (on the drive) with footage, you have to delete footage, which personally i don't like doing just in case.

  • thanks, i hate tapes but i would hate 2 have to delete the footage so im definetly goin with the hv20,,,,and where can you buy a wide angled lense

  • yeah. i use a canon wd-h43 wide angle lens, which you should be able to find online at b&h photo or amazon

  • thanks

  • This is too awesome!

    5 stars!

I have the hv20 and wide angle lens and you are putting me to shame! I am subscribing!

  • thank you! just keep trying and experimenting with it!

  • wow. that was deep stuff.

    AMAZING camera work and Cinematography.

what kind of camera are you using?

I loved the frame rates, and color correction.

    all around amazing job!

  • thank you very much!! i use a canon hv20, with a wide angle lens.

  • I like how you tell such a good story without using words

  • thank you!

  • Do I smell a sequel?

  • hmmmm, that sounds CRAZED!

  • this is kind of CRAZED

  • this in russia or somethin'?

  • close, ukraine

  • hey sorry for blowing up your comments lol but one more question. was this all one continuous shot and you just edited it out later? or did you pause in between scenes? thanks

  • haha, no problem, comments are welcome! definitely not done in one shot, that would of been very impressive if we did though. basically for each shot, we set up the actor, told him what to do, and started filming.. just continued that until we finished

  • thanks cause im about to make a short horror movie and i was trying to take advice from the experienced ones lol but its going to be good ive already written the scripts out and every and we have the perfect location too. but see i just figured if we did it all in one shot if we had any screw ups it would be easier to edit out you know what i mean?

  • yeah. just do as many shots as you can. that way you have more than you need, but plenty to work with if something doesn't look right in one shot.

  • thats my motto! lol ALWAYS

  • hey can you give me a link to the last song? or send it to my email?

  • yeah, if you go to jamendo (.com), search for "zero", and down the page you'll see the album "les suicides". that particular song is titled "transporterraum (live take)", you can download that, and any other song on that site for free, and it's all, or mostly all, under creative commons.

  • thanks man your videos are great what editing software did you use for the effects and stuff in this one? i have vegas

  • no problem! i use final cut express, if you have a mac i'd definitely recommend it. but if i used a pc to edit, i'd probably use vegas, that was good when i used it

  • Amazing short, although I think that death should have been a little bit more recognizable.

What was the major event that wasn't supposed to happen?

  • the thing that made him pass out in the end. whatever he saw, not seen by the viewer, impacted him greatly. he was brought back to a place that meant a great deal to him, but something wasn't "right" about it. prequel-sequel..?

  • wow this video just got me sold on this camera lol looks great man

  • Haven't been on youtube in a while.. but had to come check out your work! It is always epic! love this one man!! The colour correction is very nice and adds to the piece as a whole.... the song at the end is great.. what is the name of it?

  • hey, welcome back! thank you, i appreciate it. that song is called "transporterraum" by the band zero.

i actually downloaded that song for free on a website called jamendo. they host tons of artists music, and most of it is under creative commons, they are all free to download. you should check it out if you're looking for some good music that is free to use in your videos, as long as you credit them.

a few of the artists contacted and complimented me because they saw the work i used their song

  • I like the camera and the color filter, but not the plot

  • that was really good man. love the colour bypass look. it reminded me of the game fallout 3. which camera did you use out of the HV range?

  • thank you!! i used a canon hv20

  • Nice WorkK!

you captured a cool feel for the whole project and the sound design and music was wicked!

    Keep'em Comin'!!

  • WOW this is really great...

    very good lightning..

  • thanks!

  • why dont you upload it with HD Resolution?

  • well for youtube i find 1200x600 works the best with my settings. i could have uploaded it with a higher resolution, but the file size was already big enough.

  • Sh I just watched this again and I can't get over how great it is!

  • thank you!

  • No problem.

  • ayeee how do u get the cinematic look on here.?..it gives more of a film look to it.

everytime i used the HV20 or Hv30...it gives the full screen look..but i want some of them videos to have a cinematic look to it..:P

  • make sure you export as 16:9, not 4:3 or anything. for this video i set the letterbox to panavision, and exported at 1200x675

  • You done a great job man!! i like it! very coooool!

    keep it up!

  • Fantastic work!

  • This video is awesome! Clicked Favorite! 5 stars!

    It really inspires!

  • Thanks man!

  • Hey man another great and very profesional looking film. but i have a question. are you using a stedicam or what? like when you have the scenes where the camera is moving with the soldier it seems very smooth. just wandering.

  • thank you!

just google "$14 steadicam" that is what i use.

  • Very nice Karl! I almost didn't get this film until I read one of the comments on what it all meant. This reminds me of a short that a student did back in 2004 when I was studying Media Arts and Science. In his video, the guy repeats the same day over and over again and but finally he breaks the cycle and a new day happens.

  • nice. thank you!!

  • No problem.

  • Dude that was amazing!!! I agree with dj all the way ur camera work never cease's to astound me and tgebsound work in this short was especially good! I wish I was half as good as u, good work and I'm looking forward to more!!!!!!

  • that was awesome 5 stars

what kind of camera did u use?

  • thank you!

i used a canon hv20, with a wide angle lens

  • Very very well done man. That was some of the best editing and camerawork I've seen man. I really enjoyed the tone you provided this short with, very intriguing storyline, it really encompassed my attention. Can't wait for more new shorts!!

  • thank you! i appreciate it

  • Well he found 1 balloon, now he needs to find the other 98.

But yes, as always, your films are a pleasure to watch.

  • haha, glad to hear it, thank you

  • danny boyle.

  • danny boyle

  • very well done there man, I enjoyed it. I liked the color correction and the shot choices. I noticed a good bit of it could have been edited down a bit more, because the pace was slow at certain parts. But, I enjoyed it. Wicked idea.

    -Matt

    MDR PROD

  • thank you! yeah, i guess stanley kubrick got to me with the pace.

  • haha I can see that now that you say that...2001 space odyssey was extremely slow at parts, but still very much enjoyable.

  • Nice job! Especially the sound job you did on this was flawless. Just a suggestion, maybe it would have been easier to understand if it ended with the balloon again? Maybe not, but I seemed to understand it pretty well. Very good camerawork to by the way. Great!

  • thanks, appreciate it! and yes, that ending could have been a possibility.

  • Sick Gladiator scene.

  • thanks. it's a must to have it

  • i dont get it.

some cool shots tho, yet not very original techniques

can u explain the story? cause that seemed original. but i dont get the significance if it has any, or the basic plot

  • basically it's a soldier in chernobyl who wakes up, and follows his own path. eventually droppinghis gear, he is face to face with death. death brings him back to a certain point in life where something major happened, i cannot tell you that. he faints and is brought back to the beginning. if you look closely in a few scenes, the guitar man is in the background, watching him repeat his own path. "something" didn't go right in his life, why he is reliving this moment, or "dream" over and over.

  • really nicely done.

well shot, and the camera movements/color correction worked great. the sound effects were also really nice. i liked how they were really crisp and drowned out the other audio, giving a really prominent and deep sound.

the only problem i had with it was that, for a short, i thought some parts of it were a little lengthy especially at the beginning. just some trimming would have been nice. but no problems from the technical side. nice costume too! that really made it haha

  • thank you! i'll keep that in mind for my next short

  • Oh! I was totally confused when I commented on the screenshot of this. I though it was that series you guys did last year. Hah oh well this awseome. In fact, it was what Mattimeo17 said..."Hawt".

  • haha nope, new material. but thanks.. hawt haha

  • well i just finished and that gave me some more inspiration for my short!! well done! and now for my routine question: "What mic are you using?"

thanks, and good luck for the future.

  • nice. thank you!

and the stock hv20 mic was used for this. i have an azden mic, but i did not use it for this short.

  • Comment removed

  • oh man! i havent started watching this yet, but im really excited!

  • That was pretty damn awesome, great job on the film.

  • thanks!

  • hawt

  • Fantastic Video; Great camera work as well.

  • thank you!

  • Kmattson; The gas mask you used, was that a Belgian or a French gas mask? I am just curious, I am considering buying one.

  • i am pretty sure it is a belgian gas mask

  • AWW YEEEAAAAA!!! Epic KArl, simply EPIC!!!

  • epic thanks
