  • I enjoyed this. Thanks for posting.

  • i posted this video, and hopefully more soon as al's due back in edinburgh in may.why oh why are so many obsessed with al being gay or not?i dont think he is and even if he was, what has THAT got to do with his music.fucked if i know.

  • Just for the record, he is NOT gay. Never was. Though he once told me he'd 'dabbled a little at public school'!

  • I have encountered a few big and tough looking queers who I thought were straight. Appearances are deceiving. You homophobes might want to take a closer look at your best buds. Me, I am very straight but we need to live and let live. Even the most raging faggot out there has something to offer.

  • Al has played a local club here in Toronto several times on a yearly basis and I had the pleasure of speaking to him each time. The man is elegant, intelligent and quite self-deprecating. He is also a wine expert and enjoys rare books. I can assure you that he is quite straight.

  • I remember admiring Al's uniqueness when I was in high school. My brother called him a "fag", and even then I thought: Just because he's soft spoken and has a lisp? Yet the whole time my footballer bro was a Queen and Elton John fan, so go figure -- Machismo is as Machismo does.

I love Al and didn't even know he was touring still -- thanks for the "bootleg" post, lol. Now I'm off to look for concert dates, Thx...

  • His singing is mesmerizing and his early songs were produced by Alan Parsons. With a combination like that no wonder his songs are so good. He has an accent and he's a gentle soft spoken guy. I don't think he's gay. I think his peaceful nature comes through in his songs.

  • Jesus fucking christ, people! Is anything beyond the stereotypical macho heterosexual behavior 'gay'?

  • Defenitly not gay - read the article on this blog ( blogctritics org) quote "And thats when Al offered my date the opportunity to go back to the hotel with him, rather than to go home with me. Of course she said yes--after all, he was Al Stewart and by this point I was just the guy at the record store who took her to a concert and got her backstage to meet the artist."

  • he is the best at the sax though

  • the one who is playing the congas...is my music Teacher.

    Go Marc Maicsso

  • *Macisso

  • I love Al Stewart. I have seen him a dozen times. I have all his CDs. I believe he is the best of all time. Steve Shea

  • I also am addicted to Al's music, and own all his albums. He is the best, a fascinating guy, and as far from gay as east is from west. Read his early lyrics, or those of "Where are they Now?", and you'll soon agree that he is insane about women. His daughters are about 10 and 12, Violet and Daisy. Bob

  • What's wrong with being gay even if he was gay? Hello, this is 2008, and we're talking the entertainment industry. Elton John's gay and he has plenty of fans.

  • I said nothing about whether it's right or wrong to be gay, just that Al is NOT. Al has as much chance of one day coming out of the closet as I do--NONE! We both find women smokin' hot. His name is not McGreevy! lol

  • Gay or straight, it's an excellent song. Great music.

rac717, the homophobe, seems to think that someone's sexuality affects their music. Like I said, get out of the dark ages. Oh, and I AM Gay, and my name is not McGreevy.

  • Not his music, but DEFINITELY his lyrics are influenced by his rabid heterosexuality! lol

  • You seem to know so much about the man, maybe you are Al Stewart. I still say it matters not one whit whether he sings about love of one kind or love of another kind. It's still love. Hopefully Al doesn't get any head damage from the trouble and strife.

  • lol I WISH I was that talented. I, ERR... I mean HE is definitely straight! lol "I learned the contours of your body like the roads upon a map." Thanks for a fun exchange.

  • ha ha, but that line on its own is non gender specific. Sure he may be str8. I actually thought maybe differently when I heard the lyrics to "Broadway Hotel", that could be interpreted differently. Like I said, let's not put walls up.

  • Wow, I always thought of the great "Broadway Hotel", which I heard Al perform with Dave Nachmanoff last night, was a pretty intense hetero encounter. I think Al would be surprised at your interpretation, but who knows? All I know is that Al is the greatest!

  • It's really just one line in it, I guess, but since I've found out more about the lyrics - it's on the jacket for the CD, yeah it is referring the way you suggest. (I didn't know Stewart was still performing live).

  • It was raucous the other night, oldwight. I hope you get the chance to see him some day. If it's in the northeast, PM me and I would enjoy meeting you if I can also attend. As it was last Thursday, my two bros and best friend, all met for dinner and enjoyed one of Al's best shows ever..

  • Well thanks for the invite, rac717. I'm assuming north-east doesn' mean the Cairns / Great Barrier reef area. I'm an Australasian. Though no doubt I would enjoy the gig.

  • No wonder you speak such good English! lol Well, I suppose we'll never meet, but we've had good fun here!

  • So I would like to go to New York, so never say never, and I think it would be quite cool to go to a gig over there.

  • Als not gay...his much younger wife had a kid to him

around 5 years ago. He married in the 1990s. Read his lyrics.

  • Als not gay! His much younger wife has a child to Al around 5 years ago.

  • Who's the guitarist playing with Al on this? Nice stuff

  • That is is Dave Nachmanoff. He is linked on Al Stewart's Web site. And yes, a decent enough guitarist, I'd say.

  • Is he gay? No seriously, I like his music and remember it as a kid, but now when I hear it, he sounds very gay.

  • If he is hes doing alright he wife whos 25 years younger just had a kid to him.

  • That's not what I'd call "doing alright" if you're gay (not that I think Al is). Plenty of gay days around who used to be married I know quite a few.

Seriously, some of you people are so old fashioned you must be American.

  • are u gay? No seriously.

  • thanks for posting this. Saw him during the same tour but at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge. Twas just as good. Shame you couldn't get anything else.

  • my dad is best friends with dave nachmanoff, the second guitarist and is best friends with al... if u heard his song class of '58, he gave me the red guitar from the song, ill make a vid if u dont belive me

  • excellent video. thankx!!!

  • OMG someone posted an Al video we can comment on? How cool is that? Someone hug and shoot those losers that posted all the stuff from Al we could not post to! My god I can only tell you how excited I am about Al coming to NH later this year! The man and his music defines life itself! enuf said:)

  • Go Dave!

  • Wow... thank you for posting this. Great memories come back of all the times I've been blessed to hear Al's stories -- in either song or spoken form. He's a treasure.

  • saw him on Thursday 2nd Nov and this video is brilliant--thank you

  • cheers for that.unfortunately after this one a trained monkey stopped me taking any more.4th time i've seen him and always been great.
