"The Fish" is an excellent example of a narrative poem that uses imagery to convey its meaning. Anyone who calls it a "Shit poem" is an ignorant, and most likely illiterate reader who wouldn't know a good poem unless it contained the words: bitches, ass, whores, and cocaine in it. For anyone else, Bishop's poem is a strong example of an imagery centered poem that honors a fish that was too venerable to be caught and was let go out of honor and praise.
