  • First is the best because it is loudest. Buy a decibel meter and set the volumes to that. Because the loudest will always sound best. Everything at noon is unfair and not representational. Please spread the word.

  • Anything but version 4.

  • First, please shut the fuck up about Jack Black. It's annoying.

Now, that being said, I like 4 - the tapered volume could make it more sensitive to getting the sound you want.

  • Number 3 is more "musical" somehow. I wonder how they vary pedal to pedal within a batch. Are his components pretty close tolerances? I'd heard that my version 1 OCD could be converted to a version 3 if I just called Fuller. Fuller disabused me of that misconception. Wasn't to friendly about it either, but whatever.

  • Number 3 for me - awaiting the arrival of one I won on Ebay after watching this video, can't wait to hear it in person, Thanks for the vid Gearmandude.

  • #3 sounds the best in my opinion, has a nice 80s rock sound, reminds me of Slash or Joe Perry. It's a shame I can only get v4 new... Oh well, they're all awesome sounding but it's all personal preference

  • nice review

  • Please tell us what settings you use for the Blue Junior! Thumbs up so he sees!

  • I'm sure some asshole in the audience will be able to tell which one you are using and give you shit about not using the one he likes

  • They all sound like shit

  • all I can tell for sure is that I want an OCD after seeing this.

  • the v4 is quiet because its farther from the camera you dumbass!!!!!

  • @stratocasterfranck please educate yourself before calling anyone a dumbass. the pedals are not the ones that emit volume. they all are played through the amp, which has a mic on it, so ditance from camera has no effect because they are all at an equal distance (per say) from the camera

  • @MrTacoInc lol that was total sarcasm sorry

  • @stratocasterfranck I thought it was pretty funny.

  • v4 is smoother at lower volume, less harsh. At higher volume there is very little difference. TBH the OCD is a classic pedal and you would do well to own any version of it.

  • The first 2 sound very much alike. the 3rd has more gain & the 4th has quite a noticeable volume drop.

  • What were the chords played at 4:37

  • love this dude

  • Derp Derp Derp Derp you sound like jack black, no one cares Derp Derp Derp

  • besides the obvious volume dif in # 4 pedal- there is NO dif in any of the pedals-

  • 3's a charm. Bought it and started looking for the #1 which is in transit now. Great video.

  • I don't like the v4 just cus the red LED... And it's the most unlike the v1 witch is what I have.

  • i think OCD v4..! just volume low.. but v4 sound very best..! :)

  • Another stellar review as brought to you by Jack Black

  • i have a v1 and a v3.. V3 is best but V1 is for a dirty ol's sound with a strat or tele.. I had v4 but V4 is best into a very clean amp like a fender twin or a hiwatt..

  • i cant believe one of the comments isnt about how he sounds like jack black

  • 4th generation has 18v input or 9v battery...Huge differance running 18v compaired to 9v.

  • I read that they changed the taper of the volume knob on V4 which probably expains why it is not as load. He has all the knobs set to noon, but V4 would need to be a little higher to get the same volume. IMHO

  • What pedalboard case do you use?

  • imo the v4 sounds horrid in 9v mode unless the volume is higher than 9'oclock.

  • Fourth just isnt level matched i think

  • Version 3 and 4 sound really cool !

  • third or second. the fourth one sounds faulty or something xD

  • 3 or 4 I can't decide ? I'm leaning to 3 because is seem to have more of a bass sound ? Idk anyone know what the diff is?

  • I really like the overall tone of Version 2. Version 3 does kick ass, but it's a tad too hot sounding for my tone preference.

  • I think you should do shoe reviews too. Yours f'in rock man!

  • why's 4 so soft? hmm

  • JACK BLACK's voice...

  • 1, 2, and 3 sound great, and all sound the same. Don't like 4....was the level turned down a bit on that one? Sounded like it.

  • 4 is crap!!

  • I cant really tell the different between 1,2,3. 4 Is quieter. 3 Is probably the best, Hard to tell with YouTube video compression

  • I like his shoes!

  • the reason 4 sounded quieter was because the volume control is logarithmic; the volume range is the same but it tapers differently

i like 3 and 4 the best. 3 has more bass, 4 has germanium diodes, both of them have more mids than the other pedals

  • I was wondering to buy this or the MI Audio Crunchbox

  • @TheNiteJason ocd it

  • 3!

  • the third IS the best. Don't know why a fourth?..

  • anyone know what kind of peel board that is?

  • Didn't think Jack Black was a snakeskin kinda guy haha.

  • Version4 isn't that bad

    rather better than others

  • The Battery is low in #4.....

  • @LesPaulisMore009 they are powered by a one spot or something along those lines.

  • @LesPaulisMore009 The power supply cables running from each pedal would make me think they're not battery powered.......however I have heard a V4 powered with an 18v supply and it does make a significant difference to the sound of the ocd in a headroom kind of way!

  • Sounds like a rockin' tuba

  • To do this correctly the boxes need to be wired in parallel not in series as they are here...

  • @johnnylance As far as I know they all have a True-Bypass, so it doesn't really matter

  • I like them in the order of 1,2,3,4. 1 barely edges out 2 for me, but would need to hear 'em in person to be sure. 3 adds some honky midrange like a TS9 (that you can't get rid of even if you wanted to). 4 seems like the little sister of the others - throws like a girl.

  • Only Jack Black can afford all of this gear xD

  • All of them sound best turned off.

  • 3 is the best and 4 sucks

  • 2 all the way!

  • version 3 is my favourite :)

  • great guitar, great amp, great pedal and great shoes. fare dues!

  • they all sound

    E E X X A A C C T T L L Y

    the same.

  • @bille77 I guess it doesn't for some people

  • piss on it, I'm waitin' for #5 !

  • Number 3 is a winner! Vote up if u agree with me!

  • @IronMetl Am with you, why is the fourth so quiet? Great vid my friend

  • judging from this demo, 4 is noticeably different

  • I checked both V3 and V4 and bought the V4 in the end, I don't know why but it feels more warm and defined and the volume is not a problem at all it's just a different type that's all ;)

  • 1 and 3

  • His voice sounds like Jack Black alot at some parts.

  • Number 3

  • NUMBER 2!

  • I prefer 1 and 3, then 4 and then 2. That's my opinion at least.

One and three are very similar, but damn that's a sexy tone

  • I personally think they got it right the first time

  • 1,3,2,4 I'll take them all and that guitar and amp too!!

  • I've had that problem with the v4 too, with the volume taper. sometimes it would boost the volume, sometimes it would cut the volume... bizarre

  • Did you buy all four pedals or just have access to all of them? I have version 4. The instruction sheet says ," This is the latest, the final, the best version".

  • Comment removed

  • 1 3 2 4

  • I liked #2

  • 1 and 3 sounded the same. 2 has lightly more bass. Then 4 sounded broken or sth, its kinda thin. However maybe whatever @redtoploader said was right, maybe its not really that thin if I were to use it individually.

  • For me 3, 2, 1, 4:)

  • I saw your Vox/Cry baby video, now I just think of you as "The snakeskin boot man" ^___^

  • I've got a V3 that I use with a Roland JC-50 loaded with a Weber Blue alnico. I'd been thinking of replacing it with a V4, but the difference, other than the volume taper, seems subtle, so I think I'll keep mine. I do recommend using an 18 Watt power supply. These will take anything from 9 to 18 Watts, and the higher the Wattage the better it sounds.

  • v4 is more quiet because it is the most compressed among all versions

  • @jianjianwaiwai It's not compressed more that the others at all, all the dynamics shine through amazing. It just has a differently tapered volume pot

  • I really can't tell what the difference is apart from 4 being quiet

  • you shouldve turned em all on at the same time just to see what would happen

  • @omfg51 Feedback out the ass

  • 1, 3, 2, 4.. i like a blue led much more than a red one..

  • my favs in order from best to worst; 3, 1, 4, 2.

  • #3

  • i like the number 3 one

  • Hey, I bet NO ONE has ever told you that they think you're Jack Black before, ever.

  • Do by some chance happen to be Jack Black?

  • these sound killer... sounds like a tube screamer on roids

  • V3 KICKASS!

  • jack black?

  • V4 sucks ass

  • Awesome Demo..! you are a great player...

I am for version 3! It indeed does have the most presence.. and to my ear has the more refined tone of the the four.

Thanks for posting.. now I know which one I am going to buy.

I hope they are paying you for these demos!

May 2011 be your best year yet!

  • Number 3 is still the best one!

  • 4 does it for me, more usable volume levels with the broader sweep pot.

  • turn them all on at once!

  • nice

  • why do i hear less volume when you turn on the ocd v4???? is there a problem with the level or something?? or the v4 has less volume than the others???? please tell me!!

  • I personally love the 2nd one. That was the first pedal I ever tried (but sadly never bought) and I still love it to this day and try it every time I get the chance.

  • excellent demo! so hard to choose. they all sound great

  • I am stuck 2 or 3......GAH! SO HARD! Quite lovly though! must pick one of these up!

  • Number 2 is my choice.

  • Is the OCD just Fulltone's version of a tube screamer?

  • @mscott2757 No, the OCD features a hard clipping circuit whereas the TS is a soft clipping pedal. Also the OCD has a rather flat or slightly scooped response curve. The Fulldrive 2 is Fulltone's take on the TS concept.

  • I like v2 the most

  • I can't understand how you didn't just step on them all at once for a finale!!!

  • @yestomichigan I completely agree it wouldve been amazing i tried turning on my Fuzzgod while my Rockerverb 100 was on the dirty channel and it was like turning one a blender with my guitar

  • i like the one with the bright blue led

  • why did they change the color of the LED????? WHY!?

  • Nice boots!

  • IMO......number 2 all the way. Of course it's hard to tell what they really sound like through a camera mic. I want an OCD in the worst way. I'm using a Boss SD-1 right now and it sounds pretty darn good, but the OCD would be a dream come true.

  • 你真有钱....

  • @yamahapac604w: 不,在美国効果器不是贵。

  • 3 sounds the most alive and well balanced to me

  • All I can say is.....I like blue lights. :P

  • jack black?

  • Where did you get your shoes?

    I want them.

PLus, do you like your tiny terror?

  • i love how rediculous 2 and 4 sounds dimed, but 3 seemed to win it for me.

  • I have version 3 and it sounds incredible! Nice work dude! You remind me of Jack Black's voice-isms...Les Paul Historic is one of a kind! Version 3 using Les Paul Custom Shop Unbound ('58 neck profile, Elegant's Tone Chambered, Burstbucker II and III)

  • Fulltone ocd or Rat 2?

  • lol at 5:43 "we'll pinch a loaf on the tone" that would have been highly inappropriate.

  • V2 all the way.

  • One and three.

  • 1, 2 nd 3

  • ahah BIlly Idol fan?

1 wins for me...seems to have more bass response...I like it more

  • Number one !!

  • Jeeze people, v4 just has a different volume taper...thats what was changed. Its not broken, thin, etc. It just gets to unity later on the dial than the earlier versions. Listen to when he has the volumes dimed on all of them, then they are all comparable in volume.

  • @redtoploader

Yep, just noticed this after noticing the perceived volume when all are cranked. GG.

  • @redtoploader If you focus on the sound itself v4 actually sounds more transparent imho.

  • @imeddy Agreed. If it had a tad more balls as far as earlier level vol boost it would be the best. It DOES seem the most transparent; you're right. I just don't like the need to dime it which brings in too much gain when not needed.

  • If I want to buy one.. how do I tell which version it is? Does it say somewhere on the pedal? Anyone know?

  • I've had 1,2 and 3 at the same time but using a Marshall 59 model amp with a Les Paul. There was more of a differance in tone than with the equipement he is using. 1and 2 were close with 2 being a little smoother but not as ballsy. 3 sounded like a tubescreamer and not as dymanic as the first two. Had a 4 later. 3 and 4 are gone to the ebay gods. They may have been better with a Strat. Version 1 Is my preference hands down with the equipement I have now.

  • yeah number 4 is a little quiet and to me seems to take a second or two to heat up and start rippin, but is still strange, as if it were reverebed. but with the volume up on it, it improves much more. so i guess i would like it, but the volume would need to be up.

  • The label for number 1... is that a 1 or is it the L you write on the Luther Drive?

  • for the first half of the vid i think v4 was the worst. but then once the volume was pushed i think it was much better. it was close to v3 then but i thik had a little extra...when pushed that is!

  • 1 has less output, 2 has a little more than one, 3 has a little more than two and sounds like it adds some mids to the eq, and 4 has about the same output as 1 but sounds like it takes out some mids and sounds a little thin, but when he cranked up the volume they all sounded a little different on 4 it sounded like it added some mids?... at least thats what my ears think

  • 1 and 3 sound best...4 sounds broken

  • v3 is beast, veeeerrrry full

  • Comment removed

  • meh, the V4s red LED is not quite as awesome as the blue LEDs in the others.

  • @KingsRok93 Dude the volume was just needs to dimed. Pay attention to the transparency they all have a best quality I think

  • you are the musicians' cool man. great demo. do you own that Les paul??

  • Tonewise, the differences between them are nominal at best. V4 just sounds quieter than the others, but that's only because the volume sweep is different. Just needs to be cranked a bit more, that's all. People go all nuts about getting the older versions and can't wait to rip on the V4. I personally don't know what the hell they're talking about and I'm listening through studio monitors.

  • this is exactly what I don't want my guitars to sound like. Pass. Thanks for the demo! I've ruled this one out

  • Sounds awful*

  • V2, V4 sounds awful?

  • You should do a shootout where volume output is comparable to each model. V4 doesn't get quite a fair shot in regards to "tone" due to its tapered volume pot...

  • i think the guitar is the best part :P

  • u rock

  • Comment removed

  • 3 for sure

  • V4 has a different volume pot than the other models. You can't set it like the other ones and expect it to be at the same level. Notice when he dimes the volumes, then V4 is right up there with the other versions.

  • i like 3 the best.

  • Is the 4 using an 18 volt battery? Its supposed to be all around louder, cleaner and more dynamic. I don't know if that applies to all of them or not. If it doesnt have one on, with it, it could sound a lot more like the others or even better probably.

  • V3 definitely sounds better than 4, but I bet he doesn't have the 4 dialed in to where it would sound comparable to the V3.

The V4 may have a more sensitive volume pot or something

  • dude its JACK BLACK

  • V4 seems to bloom differently than the rest. 1 through 3 all sound very similar, but 4 just isn't real impressive.

  • Remember what jmsantel and I both said - They changed the volume/level pot on V4 to a more-gradual taper, thus the lower volume at 12:00. Check out the part where "Jack" dimes the volumes on each pedal - You'll notice then that V3 and V4 sound almost-identical (That's what I was hearing).

  • Everyone should keep in mind that v4's unity gain is at 1-2 o'clock, while all the others are between 9-10 o'clock. This was change was done by Fulltone as many people complained that the older versions were too loud. A better comparison would be to set each one at unity, wherever that spot is on the volume taper. But they all get to the same volume when cranked. v4 has more mids, less bass, is rounder and less fuzzy then the others, IMO.
