thats a Pseudosquilla ciliata they don't grow to big, to anyone who wants to know they don't need a tank any bigger than the one in the vid, they are known to change their colouration depending on their environment, this little guy was probably from a reef with lots of coral, some are coloured in a black and brown with tiny white dots
I have never seen a yellow one before, I could never have one as i need my snails and crabs!!!!! but i love 'em . I think i'd be constantly feeding it just to watch! lol
EXCELLENTE! I have to try it with my piranhas! how cost that mastis shrimp? I will put him in my piranhas aquario ;) Can I buy yours? because he is even beautiful than the outhers!!
I just got one today, red all over...definitely not yours or mantis...only an inch long. I have this and a pistol in another tank, inverts are the best
I did not know you could keep these. Thats unbelievable! I keep fresh water shrimp but this makes me want to go out and get a 55g for one of those. Definitely found something to save up for.
Maybe you could start out with a 30 or 55 gallon tank with some damsels and maybe some T5 lighting and some LED's to grow some soft corals. Get a basic saltwater background, do your homework on the mantis you want to purchase, and you're golden. (remember that the peacock mantis needs thick acryllic, while most spearers only need glass. The zebra mantis, on the other hand, needs about 1 ft. of sand and 100 gallons.) Stomatopods ideally need a species tank to thrive. (live by themselves.)Peace.
Only the peacock stomatopods can. None of the others are big enough or strong enough, or have spear claws instead of clubs. So no worries. All my mantis are spearers (except for my tiny green smasher) and they live comfortably in their burrows in my glass tanks. They were all rescued from the aquarium store I work at, since nobody wanted to take them home.
Well, depending on the species which can be seperated into spearers and clubbers. It would probably take a large spearer like a Lysiosquillina to sever a finger. It would be more of a very bad maiming.
Only a large clubber can break glass, something like Chiragra or Odontodactylus scyllarus(Peacock). Still most of the clubbers are quite docile and will only hit the glass if you provoke them by doing something stupid like tapping on the glass.
The trap-jaw ant Odontomachus bauri, from central and south America, snaps its mandibles shut in a mere 0.13 milliseconds - 2,300 times faster than the blink of an eye, scientists have found.
Travelling at between 115 and 210 feet per second - or up to 145mph - each jaw generates a force 300 times greater than the insect's own body weight.
Experts had thought no animal could move more quickly thanthe mantis shrimp, which delivers a powerful kick at 75 feet per second.
is that the spear type?

Before buying mantis Shrimp read the following:
Mantis shrimp can sever fingers(Yes Really)
Mantis shrimp can shatter glass.
Mantis Shrimp have the a weapon called a spear that is the fastest moving thing in the animal kingdom.
chaosclone67 4 years ago
Second fastest. Still, it HURTS!

Only certain species can shatter glass and those ones can be kept in a thick walled acrylic/plexiglass tank.
