  • Portland & Western has some log trains! cheek out my video, its called Portland & Western Freight Train in Hillsboro, OR

  • Really appreciate seeing this. It's always cool to see stuff you recognize on youtube! I've been by those mills (3 and 5) several times over the years, hauling logs, rock, and equipment.

  • A switcher with a K5H? WOW!

  • 1201 sounds like an ALCO when it throttles up.

  • Thanks for sharing, very interesting video.

    Which state is this?

  • This is in Washington state, in the South Puget Sound - Olympic Peninsula area. This sight will not occur again as heavy rains this past December have damaged sections of the roadbed beyond repair. The railroad will no longer operate out of the downtown Shelton area.

  • Wow, thanks for this. I didn't expect the log bunks to have such a totally different sound to most freight cars. I guess they don't have any bodywork to "drum".

Gives me a broader perspective for my modelling !

    Ta!

  • Nice. Is this railroad still running?

  • Yes, I hear it's the last logging railroad operation in the U.S. It currently operates from Shelton to the Dayton Dry Sort Yard, 10.5 miles.
