  • This is the first time I'm watching a man scat on a bebop solo. He completely owns the fretboard.

  • Fantastic as always, an Immense talent.

  • 5:08 shakes head in dissapointment

  • Blues? No

  • @shankaraist

o yes deffenitly a blues and nice one too!

  • great phrasing!

  • He's a good guitar player, but please stop trying to sing!

  • @gigwalnutz1 its called scat, and although I'm not the biggest fan of it, it shows how one you are at your instrument, how you well you connect your the music in your head and heart with your fingers. Its actually quite incredible.

  • @MeritMaestro It's great theory, but I think most members of an audience get turned off. This guy is actually hurting his guitar playing, because, now you have to cut through the "scatting" to hear the really good guitar playing underneath!

  • @gigwalnutz1 I agree.

  • @gigwalnutz1 Agreed - Glenn Gould was criticised similarly for singing lines through his *classical* piano performances! It is a skill which I remember was encouraged in order to develop exactly what @MeritMaestro suggests and impart the improvisation. I guess, in the end, it's about communicating your playing to an audience. If they came to hear a guitar-player, they might not 'get' the concurrent scat which might detract from the guitar's voice. No right or wrong; just a choice a player makes.

  • Dr. Chase?

  • That is some serious shred.

  • Cheese us! Härre Gud!

  • Stu Hamm - bassist at the wrong gig...

  • Hello, To play in 4 4 it is not a easy way to play this ; what i mean, if you start-ing-point 1 to a break in the end 4 some time is befor the measure when you play that mean you most be more precise to the 4 4 break and the drummer do the same some time !...

But i think you play very good this version i like very much !...

  • Very good version of this Billie's Bounce but the drummer play the break in 4 4 but Andrea Oberg play the break in 2 4 that is the pity !...

  • @tellarjj Are you talking about the part where they trade solos? If so, the drummer is allowed to go out of time if the drummer chooses to do so. I'm not really sure where you're talking about. Even if he did play in two four that wouldn't change anything but how the drummer would accent beats in the measure. If he went into a compound meter then yeah there might be some problems.

  • wow!

that was staggeringly musical as well as unbelievably impressive!

    thanks posting this!

    17 'dislike'!?

    how is that possible?

  • amazing nuff said!

  • he cant be perfect! he's a modal and an amazing guitar player.

he must have a small pines

  • in 0:23 to 0:35 what technique he used ?

  • @viticox10x

    It's called Harp Harmonics :)

  • @viticox10x He was playing the guitar.

  • the chick probably sucked him off right after the show.

  • Man, George Benson got younger, blondie and maybe faster! The global warming brings something good also!

  • I liked the bass playing.. it wasn't amazing, but it was fine...

  • Great Player!

  • HOLY CRAP 2:44-3:00!!! O.O

  • jojje wadenius!

  • @musicuseit werd its soo damn good

  • Great stuff :)

  • He seems Bradley Cooper!!! :-)

    but with another talent

  • Why would anybody agree to go after a solo like that...???? Smh

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

  • the bass player has the totally wrong sound for this type of gig its embarrassing this is the reason us electric bass players get a bad rapport with so many ppl :/

  • @deepfriedpankakes "That bass player" just happens to be Stu Hamm. He can go with any sound he wants...ENOUGH SAID!

  • @mohawk777us yea well "That Bass Players" tone is shitty!!

  • @mohawk777us

i still don't like what he plays here. it is some pseudo-jazzy fu**ed up blues bass solo that doesn't fit the context.

  • @CptChaos88 you mean like a jaco style? yep you know what your talking about.

  • @buefyYT the stu ham - style has really not much with the jaco style to do. i said that i neither liked stu's sound nor his playing here. it doesn't suit the situation. in a bebop tune you play a bebop solo, not some shitty pentatonic with a clicky chorussy sound.

  • @CptChaos88

So, what style SHOULD stu have played then? it's pentatonic blues, so yeah, a "shitty" pentatonic works here.

  • He reminds me of Bireli. They should do an album.

  • good looking, crazy guitar skills, comes from Santa land... what negatives does he have?? he must be gay... :DD

  • idk why but I haven't really heard of him, but WOW

  • damn this guy has to be gay

  • that bass player is someone from Joe Satriani's band isn't he? If I'm not mistaken his name is stu hamm,

    anw, very good guitarplaying!

  • He comes from the North Pole? So that's where GOd resides huh. Haha. Rare combination of hip and sublime skills. He's a vision.

  • why is he singing his solo? lol

  • @ipod628 you've never heard george benson do that?

  • @ipod628 no not lol, its just because some players like to do, never heard of George Benson ???

  • @ipod628 It helps us keep time and really get into out ideas

  • @ipod628 a lot of jazz musicians do this, they create lines in their head and hum or sing them simultaneously while playing. Bud powell among many other jazz musicians do this.

  • @DREAUXENTERTAINMENT outside of jazz... david gilmour always did that as well

  • @xXfalken16Xx i didn't know that, Thanks for informing me!

    xD

  • can someone tell me which notes he played besides all of them and the ones in-between?

  • Que que é isso?

    Assustador...de bom claro!

  • que hijo de puta......

  • Stu Hamm on Bass?

  • "We're gonna do a blues for you"

    Proceeds to unleash jazz odyssey

    still waiting for the blues

  • @TJPDiddly Billie's Bounce is a Bird blues.

  • @Threepwoodist actually it's not, it's a standard blues. bird blues would blues for alice progression

  • hahaha Struat Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa bouhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!

    and i don't say stuuuuu , i say bouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

  • Andreas is a remarkably fluid, inventive guitarist who appears comfortable in a variety of styles and excels at playing rapid and coherent phrases with incredible technical dexterity that remain musically coherent and expressive. I'm very impressed. Scatting is an ability to play the notes that you are singing spontaneously. While Andreas certainly could play preconceived lines at times, mostly this skill is about improvising and developing the ability to play what you hear. Excellent.

  • that singing is very anoying.

  • @SirEnte You're annoying. His singing shows what the improvisation is all about :)

  • its ok I guess.

  • @jazzbox111 I don't like you.

  • Andreas Oberg is the biggest pushy-magnet jazz guitar player!!

  • That singing actually made me very happy haha

  • wow

  • doo dood odoodoododoo duduud dooo :D

  • @MrJhon7

papp ppappapp papapp papppaaaaap p papapppap

  • Watch a minute, pause, press 8, say "What the fuck", pause, press 9 and say it again.

  • Watch a minute, pause, press 8, say "What the fuck"

  • from 2:45 , it drives me crazy, he is one of the best guitarists in the world veeeryy high level

  • Nice Benson inspired guitar playing, bass player needs to work on his tone

  • @silver10gold Fucking Stu Hamm. Plays a mean bass, but he fucking sounds like a tin can.

  • Shut up and play guitar

  • He reminds me of early Benson, although technically better

  • Hahaaaaaa!

  • up to 0:49 standard, blues, pentatonic scale. nothing special.

one second later, you are dead from astonishment.

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 every note is special lol

  • @LedZeppelinisgod100 That's 'cause it's Charlie Parker!

  • is that trace bundy next to andreas? with the acoustic? looks like him

  • I suspect he's singing what he's playing not the other way around.

  • @sharpnine2000 No, my friend saw him do a guitar clinic and he demonstrated this concept. He says improvisation should be what you hear in your head and that your hands are simply devices to execute what you hear. Some guitarists sang some lines for him and he played them right away, correct pitch and everything. He demonstrates this in this video a little bit: /watch?v=XY3hkGos8xg&feature=related

  • shut up stu hamm!

  • ?wow gr8 playing but why did he had to sing into the mic

  • @yochay94 because its easier then to play notes in solo

  • SVENSKAR ÄGER!!! FUCK YEAH PROUD TO BE SWEDE!

  • i'm always wondering how the other guitarist sitting there must feel , this is just tenchincal mind blowing stuff !

  • that's amazing....

  • man, you sir just took me to another planet

  • that was delicious

  • I don't care how many people say they've heard this a thousand times - I really like it and that's what counts. Great swing and great playing - makes me want to pick up my guitar and learn some of those lines. Can't say Adam Rogers has that effect on me, however "modern" he may be. I'm not knocking him or Rosenwinkel - I just personally prefer this. And Andreas gets 5 extra stars from me for the cowboy boots and outrageous rhinestone strap on that beautiful Benedetto :-) Great stuff - thanks!!

  • Question) How to ruin a amazing guitar solo? Answer) Play the bass like that guy!!!

  • Worst bass ever...

  • Bravo. He's studied Benson's style well.

  • damn that bass tone is ugly as hell! :D

  • beta werewolf from eu north pole ;)

  • ;) nice boots..

  • The other guitar players look SHELL SHOCKED!!!

and why a bass solo after that guitar solo!

  • The guy with the acoustic next to him looks like trace bundy, it be him acctually.

  • he is a fucking god !

  • VERY COOL !!!!!!! I prefer when he plays that kinf od music... Django is played better by moignard, bireli, giniaux...

  • This guy is bad ass!! He's really got those Benson licks down.

  • Man this guy is really good looking.

And can play like a motherfucker too.

    An attractive combination.

  • @Feseantphucker lol haha.. he is a lucky guy

  • @Feseantphucker I hope you are a girl?!

  • @Feseantphucker

You mean the motherfucking and guitarplaying?

  • Wouah!!! magnifique, merci mille fois!!! super bien joué!!! incrédible!!!!thank a lot Andreas i will follow you on your channel(excuse me for my poor english) bye...-nordine-

  • when will we ever see Andreas Öberg and Ulf Wakenius perform together ?

  • Jazz and blues are the best underrated music genres.

  • BillyC15 was right! Thank you ...

Man! .... man ... man oh man ! This guy really burns!

  • It's official -Andreas Oberg is now the "multi tasking" all around guitar god!

  • sublime!!

  • 5:10 - 5:27

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I have just thrown all my guitars out the window!

    just kidding.

  • @JazzJunkie4 I didn't throw my guitar out the window either! I threw myself out!

  • @masshred lol, too funny :)

  • wow i just realize how good this tune is on guitar...

  • man if you think that it's annoying when he skats his solo you should listen to kieth jarrett... he just babbles and squeals.... with all respect to kieth though. he's the man.

  • Extraordinaire skillz he has that thang!

  • love it!

  • liked it besides the singing. Why does he need to sing if the guitar is playing the part?

  • @jkman10 Because it kind of sounds really nice !!

  • Great video! Really shows how talented Andreas is.

  • very nice ^ ^

  • why his singing?? xD he plays well

  • @OliverDuarte88 Blame George benson who started this craze a long time ago...although when Goerge does it it really sounds hip...when others do it just sounds lame..to my ears!

  • jazz with shred balls :D gotta love Oberg !

  • Great talent - the scat singing and playing comes from Benson, he's been doing to for years and is just as awesome!

  • omg im playing this in jazz band...exceept its more...high school level~ T.T

  • very cool waw waw

  • Woooooow... It's amazing how he plays the guitar and at the same time he sings every single note. BRILLIANT

  • George Benson does this very good too, you should check him out!

  • so uhh...what are the lyrics to this song?

  • Billie bounced and bounced,Ubah dubah etc.

do you need some? write them ,be a Eddie Jefferson.

  • There aren't any lyrics noted in The Jazz Fakebook for Billie's Bounce.

  • @JezenThomas it was a joke :| because all i can hear is dubadoobadubdubdub etc.

  • He just needs to close his mouth when he plays

  • find a brain to use.

  • Screw technique. Its all about being able to dance to the music. Greatest jazz blues guitarist out there is kenny burrell.

  • no,it's not J6 washburn,I have one.

  • 4:44 Technique ALL DAY!!!

  • it's a benedetto guitar.

  • what company that guitar?

  • awesome

  • the man is great. perfect technique. but is this realy blues?? honestly i think its sounds more like jazz. Silly me??

  • blues its not a rythm.. its kindoff a chord structure.... u ussually hear it played in shuffle (classic vaughan blues) here its played in swing... but chords are the same.. so its still a blues.. and has a lot of blues in it!!!

  • Well ... the song is a blues written by Charlie Parler (a jazzman) an follows standard jazz progressions (VI II V I), so you can call it a jazzed blues.

  • hahaha wow.

  • yes its blues... blues is very broad. basically its chord progression uses I-IV-V chords.

  • the guitar is a washburn J6 if im not mistaken

  • haha stu hamm is beast

  • this is what they do for fun up there

  • man he's really tight perfect picking

  • Did he quote groovin high at 5:08?

  • No thats not groovin high. Why have i heard that before!

  • 5:08 its called everybody to the head its billies bounce.

  • it kinda sounds like tenor madness for a second there to me at least

  • One of my favourite tunes, and excellent perfomance

  • "im really enYOYing my stay here...:"

    oh those Swedes haha

  • @alyrljt777

LOL, don´t mek fon ov da guy! xD
