@CrazyKing570 Intelligence is completely different from sentience. Intelligence on Earth is simply how you use it, but of course you have to do certain things. Tool use, culture, innovation, imagination. These things make sentience. Crows, and dolphins, the two most smartest species on Earth besides man, show signs of all this towards some extent. They are not sentient though, because neither have shown signs of innovation and imagination, besides a most basic level.

However there is one proof. NASA now admits that there was life on that Martian meteorite. And it was similar to Earth life.

Regarding CrazyKing570 inference that there is a need to be humanoid to a degree to build anything - I think that would be true if we were to assume that "hands" were required to build anything. I think we should not preclude the possibility that there are other means to build than with brawn. Dolphins, for example, are able to stun fish without weapons which would require hands...hmm.

We can alternate, and use all the brain at a point in time. The fact that we do not understand does not mean we do not use it. Also, Spore is misleading. On Earth, Rocks from space brought genetic material, yes. But it was over the couse of a billion years, and most of it just was destroyed by decay.

@CrazyKing570 Intelligence is completely different from sentience. Intelligence on Earth is simply how you use it, but of course you have to do certain things. Tool use, culture, innovation, imagination. These things make sentience. Crows, and dolphins, the two most smartest species on Earth besides man, show signs of all this towards some extent. They are not sentient though, because neither have shown signs of innovation and imagination, besides a most basic level.

The fact is we will likely see a rise of an international entity that will have the funds capable of going beyond the stars, and that even then there will be many factions that exodus from Earth disunited.
However there is one proof. NASA now admits that there was life on that Martian meteorite. And it was similar to Earth life.

@Gormanmod To the question of "is there other intelligence in the universe?" undoubtedly, But as to the question "what would they look like?" possibilities are endless, but if their are intelligent, sentient beings out there capable of having a more advanced technology, and capable of space travel to the point of visiting our planet i would expect them to be humanoid to a slight degree, how else would they be capable of such things? It would be hard for lassie to build a space transport.

Regarding CrazyKing570 inference that there is a need to be humanoid to a degree to build anything - I think that would be true if we were to assume that "hands" were required to build anything. I think we should not preclude the possibility that there are other means to build than with brawn. Dolphins, for example, are able to stun fish without weapons which would require hands...hmm.

@240SSONLY All humans use all their brains only at 10-12% of the time. Ways to maximize that are basically learning to shut off inputs that distract. Neurons move and redesign themselves constantly throughout your life to help you gather skills to what you do. Einstein, for example, had parts of his brain missing. So the spare neurons made a superhighway for information flow.
Humanoid forms with space travel are likely to be rare due to the rare circumstances that made us.

@240SSONLY Humans are unique in that they are all forms of intelligence in one and blank slates for them at birth. Emotional intelligence, creative intelligence, tool use, etc etc. We have them all. But most favor emotional these days for reasons I do not know. I kind of don't care about emotions other than in art. But that's why people look dumb. They are not using their full intelligences. But they should still be at 10% at any time use.

@guizawa Actually we do use 100% of our brain, because all locations of the brain have been shown to have activity. We can run different processes at any given time, not all of them however. We can alternate, and use all the brain at a point in time. The fact that we do not understand does not mean we do not use it. We also do not understand the electron 100%, but we do know how to use 1005 of an electron.

All humans, on average, use 100% of their brains throughout their lives. The brain is, in fact, a machine. In fact, the best comparison is an in-house computer network. eye is hell a lot superior to a camera:
-falcon could read font 8 on 50 meters
-cat can see clearly and sharp movements that are faster than human can percept
-a lot of animals can see at night(night mode cameras can't record objects without infra-red light)
-eye focuses faster and adapts to light changes faster than camera
-eye can regenerate to some degree

Even today, we begin to see the wonders. The Mars Global Surveyor camera beats every single organic eye known to man in terms of range and clarity. Hubble may be better, but I don't know.

Actually nanites have already been created, they're about 5 years away from practical use, and 10 years away from application to human needs.
Hubble is just a slower version of an eye. Get a material that can do what Hubble does in less time, and you have what you need. It just costs too much.
It is not necessary to have HD night vision. But it can be done easily by simply having a mini computer process the image. This is in "land warrior" systems.
