If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want a fun bonus). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.
I Had The Same Problem... But i went for the Sony. (I never use the panorama and almoste never the 10 frames pr sec.)
I Kinda Regret cause the cannon has alot of the same ting + better video and the flip screen is often necessary. Trust me Go For the Cannon. I tried the canon afterwards and i started regretting...

Canon SX1 IS killer. Done deal.
$100 cheaper too. I've seen on several sites that it offers 3 recording formats. 640x480, 1280x720, and 1440x1080.
