I have fond memories of these cars, i passed my driving test in one of these in nov 79, it was a 1971 J reg Austin 1300, lovely car to drive, roomy, economical, and nice handling/ride and excellent brakes, they were well ahead of their time, the only real fault they had was they were rust prone, especially the rear subframe/mountings, sills and front wings being the worst areas.
discocreator 76 is talking out his arse !!!! the 1100/1300 models were stunning and massive sellers !!! the allegro is a pig of a car that helped destroy the british car industry !!!
Good video and a great little car, easy to work on, quite reliable with the good old 'A' series engine and SU carb.
The car's hydralastic suspension gave a good ride and handling.
Like the Mini it was ahead of its time for technology.
The countryman version is my favourite like Basil Fawlty's car. The front doors are different to the saloon, ie the 'B' pillar slopes backwards on the countryman version.
Incidentally, what is the name of the background music on your video?
my dad brought a bmc 1300..same car..he told my best pals dad he had allways wanted one...my pals dad had the same day got a jag xj6..i nearly died..i was about 9 years old..never got over that...LOL
I think that grey car, the first one picked down by plane and then on mountain roads is an Innocenti Austin J4: front grille is simpler than Austin and there is no Morris badge. My father owned one from 1965 to 1969, then crashed in an road accident. It was nice, very well built and, he said, economical to run. They still remain among the better british cars in every day pratical classics
I like the Allegro too, mostly the later ones the seres 2, V, W and X reg ones! And the VP and Princess models, I also like the Maestro, and consider it a classic in the same light. I dont think thw 1100 lacked character, I was a passeger in my Dads 1100 estate which was quite old when he owned it around 1988 ish.
Sounded like a mini but the clutch was heavy if I remember. Think it had sliding windows too at the front.
I know this may sound strange to most people, but I can honestly say I like the styling of the Allegro much better, it had so much more character than this rather bland, dated and shapeless 60's design

My father-in-law bought a new one in 1967. He lent it to me a short while later and I wrote it off on the first journey. Not the best day of my life!

ALL instrumental sound. I didn't hear ANY vocals. Certainly no Shirley Bassey. Not that it matters much.

Sadly the Shirley Bassey sound track was removed. It's a shame as it was a fitting track to have to this video.
