I just don't understand why Canon didn't add 1080p 60p on a $16,000 video camera, but Sony gives us that option on their FS100 which is priced around $5,000. There must be a specific reason why, and I know it has nothing to do with hardware/processing power.
This looks to be a great camera but why o why do the likes of Canon, Sony, Panasonic not make these mid-priced cameras in a shoulder mount body? What is to lose? Every professional TV documentary cameraman is crying out for a camera with a 35mm sensor but we haven't got the time to set up a shoulder rig every time we switch from tripod to shoulder mount. It's a no brainer! Manufacturers are missing a sizeable chunk of the professional market! C'mon guys!!
Nice review. Thanks for doing it. I noticed all of the shots in your sample footage were all fixed focus on a single element in the shot. Would have been nice to see you rack the focus from foreground to background, or from one object to another, to see how smooth it can be with the ef lenses. Maybe I missed those shots though. Thanks again!
@philipbloom The C300 looks great, I would love to hear your review on the scarlet since they will be about the exact same price range. Even a comparison would great. Love your videos and passion Phillip, thanks!!!
@MrKylePopovich you should check his blog out. he talks about the scarlet and the red team in general. scarlet produces a great image but i am not too sure about the customer service.
I understand this is not a dslr camera, but can you use the Nikon to Canon lens adapter on this thing? It would again be great to be able to utilize those older, cheaper lenses. I am really considering purchasing one of these when they release next year and would love that option of not having to fork out out loads of bread on new lenses.
@philipbloom That's wicked Phil, cheers, thank you for getting back to me and clearing that up :) Loving your vids and reviews also, you have some great work, keep it up.
Mr. Bloom, small suggestion. Do a review of the GH2 running the 170mb/s hack and also a short film that follows it just like how you did for this camera! :) **THUMBS UP SO MR.BLOOM CAN SEE THIS POST!**
@philipbloom Yes i do i want to go to Camp red but my parents can't afford to fly me out to LA. So i might be allowed to go to Reducation even though i'm 15 i only own a 550D. Its a shame you got rid if your Epic any chance of you getting a Scalret?
@NiallHornProductions check his blog out, he talks about red being a great camera and the scarlet as well. but there are a few downsides that he fills us in on while reading the "red epic and why i don't have one anymore" very great post and the comments...priceless
The form factor is quite appealing, especially for hand-held work. Phillip, excellent review. Very helpful. Thank you. How'd it feel even with the extra screen? Could you hold it a while, I mean even without a full-on rig?
Excellent review Philip. You are one of the few in the community who is honest and is true to the people who trust your opinion and i am disgusted with the way you have been treated. Don't change who you are. Thanks for all your help.
@philipbloom I don't see how this camera films better quality video then any of the other cameras out there that cost thousands less...I watched your video on it, and saw nothing different or impressive about the camera. Your other videos you've made with other cameras costing thousands less look about the same too me... So how can you constitute spending $ 20,000 on this? I rather buy Five GH2s and all the best lenses for it, and go on a trip to Hawaii:) But that's just me...
@filmmakerjoe27 hi Joe, please. The $20k thing. That's not the cost of it. It will be same as F3 street price. Secondly It's a video camera. Has none of the issues of DSLRs. If you don't need what the C300 can do for you that's fine but don't forget their are a lot of other markets out there that this caters for!
@filmmakerjoe27 not 20k Joe...already said that. This is an F3 competitor. If it's not for you that's fine but there are people this is very much for.
@philipbloom I'm saying if your a truly talented filmmaker out there these days then you probably don't need this camera... Any camera $600 and up will do...
@filmmakerjoe27 you seem to forget about the broadcast market Joe. You NEED a proper camera for it...DSLRs are not accepted by most and are impractical for much. Don't get me wrong. I love DSLRs. Wait until you see my shootout.
@philipbloom I agree with you about the broadcast market. DSLR shootout can't wait...Hey Philip thanks for the wonderful conversation. I rather enjoyed it...
@philipbloom I don't know about you Philip, but for the average independent filmmaker out there 20k is a lot of money...I'm not going to argue with you about the issues between DSLRs and video cameras, because I think there minor issues. And frankly I have never ran into issues that I couldn't solve... Oh! the people in that market your talking about have never impressed me with anything yet... So I'm not that keen on the people that work in that market....
Great video! subscribed.

@psychovisioncreation Yep, same as the Canon DSLRs. The Zeiss 35mm F1.4 is a ZF nikon fit which I used on it.

Considering the camera is going for the best 1080 possible they really should have slow mo 1080!
That would be a reason why more people would want it for slow mo over a DSLR.
