  • Hi

In the dvds we produce and sell we explain how to make a very simple but very effective stove

  • @gawletap totally not in the spirit of things

  • @gawletap totally not in the spirit of things

Do you sell the coffee too?

  • @gawletap what kind of knife is that?

  • How many acorns do you need for one cup? And what type of fuel produces that bright red flame? By the way, your Labrador is a beauty!

  • @EdjeBos It all depends on how strong you like your coffee, but on average about 4 or 5 acorns will do. But becarefull, this small film on you tube is taken from a 1 hour dvd that we produce, where everything is explained in much more detail. There are dangers to using acorns as they contain tannis, but its the psychology of being able to make a drink when you are in a survival situation I am trying to teach and up lifting benifits it provides.

  • @gawletap but it's not advicable to drink the stuff as regular as one drinks normal coffee? Don't know what tannis is. I will look it up. Thanx!

  • Ultimate freedom one man and his dog with wilderness skills to boot.

  • Talk louder... I mean, seriously. oO

  • Neat! Are those white oak acorns?

  • wow this guys is bad ass, making acorn coffee in the wilderness.

    love your videos mate ;D

  • Another great video' thanks for posting.

  • Ave Maria? :D

  • This is what happen when you fail at Fable 2! :3

  • Hobos taught him everything he knows!

Cook squirrel and make cheap coffee!

    Hell yea!

  • It has to be very bitter right?

  • the end is mad creepy with the music

  • what is the dog thinking....

  • WOW!......that was boring. no offense man

  • i love ur videos!

  • Wine is aged in oak barrels to put tannins into it. A handful of acorns once in awhile shouldn't hurt you. The amount of tannin depends on the acorn as well. Burr Oak acorns are sweet and you can eat them just like they are without leaching out the tannins. Probably wouldn't want to eat too many like that though.

  • Its more like a hot brew rather than coffee right?

  • Thank you.

  • Toxicity Category 3 - plants usually produce mild to moderate stomach upset or dermatitis. (Category 4 are concidered safe) Ref.: University of Arkansas • Division of Agriculture website

  • how do you get rid of the tanic acid mate?

  • im not sure if its more healthy because there is plently of tannic acid in that which i presume is bad for you

  • SHaron@!!!!

  • great thing to know :)

  • i remember my parents kicked me out of my house so i had to sleep in the woods haha

  • Good video and info. However, I would rather spend 5-10 mins making a proper cup of tea or coffee, rather than an hour making this stuff. I'm sure it has it's own reward, but I'd rather get it done and do some fishing and hiking.

    Thanks

  • all these videos are the fuckin shit!

i wanna do this stuff :(

  • go outside and do it up

  • Down Tesco mate, you get a jar proper coffee, fairly cheap!!!

  • Acorns contain tannins. Humans normally have a hard time digesting it and it makes us nauseaus and rarely vomit. You're supposed to leach out the tannin in a couple changes of boiling water before consuming. Also, the larger the "cap" compared to the "shell" the more tannins. Be carefull eating them.

  • it isn't really coffee... it's more of an acorn 'drink'. tha'ts what i think at least

  • Of course it's not REALLY coffee. It takes a lvl 60 wizard to make real coffee out of acorns, bro :)

  • @jake262144 HAHAHA!

  • Comment removed

  • @jake262144 wow, thank you for that. lmao

  • @jake262144 omfg

  • im sorry but at 4:57 i thought you were going to shoot yourself or the dog, change the music please, its depressing me.

  • Man for bushcraft this guy uses alot of man made equiptment!! lol. i will try the coffee tho

  • No caffeine? Seems hardly worth it to me. How's it taste?

  • i looked it up they do have caffeine similar properties of coffee and chocolate/ fucking crazy right

  • Dude, speak louder than the noise your making with the friggin stick. And if your speakin English, how come I cant understand you? LOL

Just kidding - nice video, Im gonna try this out. The coffee is probably very good for you!

  • He is english he is from birmingham, We have different accents all over the u.k we dont all sound like hugh grant you know,

  • @SillyBoyBlue83

LOL, honestly, to the untrained American ear, Englishmen sound like queer americans. LOL

  • No thats just the way americans portray us. And remember its our (ENGLANDS) language so we can use it how and us we please lol

  • should start throwing insulsts at him in welsh :P

  • @SillyBoyBlue83 Not all of us :/ I'm american and I don't see you guys that way.

  • @SillyBoyBlue83 I think it's just as much ours. If you recall, the people who started America were from England. We don't all portray you the same way. In general most Americans love the English people and their accent. If an American were to say something the way you do it makes us think something is wrong with him. The way you say some things have certain connotations that we have to remember is not the case coming from you. Most of us make the adjustment just fine.

  • i tried it thanks wasn't to bad with evian bottle water. next i go camping i'll try it with perrier

  • haha

  • That's cool, great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I made me some , I did ! not to bad . I used my small iron skillet to roast them on the camp fire. just my knife I used the other end to crush the acorns . "Starbucks ...I'm switching you cost too. much !" LoL

  • damn i cook/washed all my acorns to get rid of the tannins, shud have kept a few to try this with

actually, dont u have way too much tannins in ur coffee? or does the roasting destroy them?

  • i just cook it on the stove and use the coffee griinder, then put it in the coffee pot. lol

  • And you manage to do ALL that by yourself, whos a clever boy then

  • @gawletap Ahahahahahahahaha Your awsome =P

  • @snower5554 and take the fun out of it... no way ill do it in the wild

  • Comment removed

  • Whilst walking in the woods today I sat under an oak tree and witnessed a squirrel going about his business collecting his nuts for the upcoming winter. I sat admiring his/her efforts, then it dawned on me that I had heard of acorn coffee and thus I waited for the squirrel to do a bit more picking and dropping. I collected some acorns from the critters stash, thanked him profusely and headed home to try my hand at this coffee. I can say the coffee was refreshing and tasty Need more nuts squirrel

  • LOL and I collected a bunch too, but left them on my chair, as I started to get ready for bed in my lean- to a raccoon sneeked up and took my zip-lock full of acorns and ran up the tree .I heard ping, ping, ping -plop . He was most unhappy and dropped them . LoL

  • Great story! : )

  • Thats good.... rattled up a Stag with a tin can and a stick...........

  • shoulda got that deer!

  • just a man and his dog

  • well im drinking this right now, and i have to say its nothing special , but in the woods it would be a tastey treat, i've added some sugar and milk and its miles nicer,

    nice vid

  • great vid man!

    what music starts at 4:36?

  • Ave Maria

  • thanks bud! :D

  • Love your videos but consumtion of to many acorns is poisonous to us. Small amounts only! I will try this but not to often. Interesting video. Has me wondering if this is possible with other nuts? Seems like it is worth a try. May even try it with barley. Keep you posted on my experiments!

  • yeah another commenter claimed that white oak acorns were ok but those of red and black had some toxic crap called tannin in em. can beboiled out but all that effort and risk over acuppa joe?just bring instantor if ur in survival mode doncha have more pressing matters than pseudo coffee

  • UNLESS you have a food allergy to tree nuts, you've been misinformed. Acorns are generally safe to eat, and were a staple of many Native peoples. There is a large quantity of tannin (tannic acid) in the acorns--particuarly the black and red oaks--but that can be removed by boiling or leaching. the white oaks tend to have tannin levels low enough to be consumed w/out prep.

  • Tannin is only toxic in very large quantities, where it inhibits the absorption of certain minerals like iron, which over time can result in anemia. Now, that sounds bad, but chances are you would never ingest tannin in that quantities--it's very astringent. So unless you plan on eating pounds of raw acorns for days on end, you'll be fine.

many common foods contain tannin, some in considerable quantities: black tea, green tea, cranberries, pomegranate, beans, chocolate, and other raw nuts.

  • I have recently did research into the subject and discovered the same information you mentioned. Interesting to say the least. I have even found many recipes for use with acorn flour and how to make such a flour and as to which part of the acorn to use.

  • It seems like a lot of work for a drink. I would just drink the water.

  • its definately worth the effort if you have some spare time whilst camping, and in survival situations you always have a lot of time ;)

  • Screw the coffee...He shoulda broke to hunt the stag with his trusty slingshot!!! LoL.. just kidding...Have to try this out sometime...Still love the dog..Glad to see all his patient waiting earned him a hug.

  • i thought acorns are poisonous? someone told me about it....

  • oak are the only one not poisonus

  • Oak come in three varieties: black, red and white. The acorns from the black and red contain tannin, a dangerous agent that is not to be ingested. However, it can be leached out of the acorns after 8 hrs. in boiling water (continuously changed). However, the nuts of white oak are sweet and can be eaten right out of the shell, if the squirrells don't get to them first (I've tried them--very tasty). White oak acorns are easily distinguished from black and red by their rounded lobes.

  • are those three species found here in the u.s.?

  • and get white oak acorns or chestnut acorns

  • does anyone know how to make bread from just normal grass seeds? ive dries the seeds...

  • The music at the beginning blasts me away and then I have to crank up the volume to hear the fella talking.

  • yeah its pisssing me off too.. "D

  • Thanks both gawletap nad fegmaan i'm goin camping this weekend and i will try both. peace and Liberty for all.

  • Acorn Pancake Recipe: 2 1/4 cups white flour 3/4 cup acorn meal 3 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tsp salt 3 tbsp sugar 1/2 cup dried cranberries 2 beaten eggs 1 tbsp melted butter 1 1/4 cup milk 1/3 cup applesauce 3/4 tsp vanilla mix these ingredients to combine and then cook them in a hot frying/grill pan until they are nice and brown.
  • thanks for posting, not convinced it tastes better than my instant though! Will have to try it out this autumn. On another note, could you utilize the powder as a flavouring addition to a bannock or a johnny cake do you think? Cheers again

  • this is really great, tried it out myself, but dont try this with every kind of nut, cause you might end up making poison..

  • can you add milk

  • yes you could.

  • A handful of acorns can have more nutrition than a pound of hamburger meat, also you can make good homemade pancakes from a acorn powder mix.

  • send me the receipe sounds great

  • Me too, please!

  • can i have the recipe for these homemade acorn pancakes please

  • i'll take a copy too if you have time... thanks!

  • Taste the memories! My Father showed me how to do this when I was young and I went out and tried it today after seeing this and it brought back a lot of good memories! Thanks for the video!

  • are not all Acorns from oak trees.. and dose black oak trees tast beter ? for this coffe

  • hi sean ,the effect of tannic acid on the body is they cause stomach cramps and constipation, its ok in small amounts loke this as here and tasty, but if making bread or using this drink often its better to soak the oak as they say to elimanate most of the tannins, its a good cure for diahorea though.thanks for the vid, lovely music

  • P.S. - Nice touch with Ave Maria. Very nice rendition.

  • I understand that acorns are toxic unless the tannins are removed. Does dry roasting the acorns remove the tannins?

    Sean the silver fox

  • No it does not, but in the film this is taken from this is all explained, this is an emergency drink whilst caught out in the wilds so the phsycology of the hot drink is far more important than the tannins from a very small ammount of acorns

  • Thankyou. I appreciate the importance of a hot drink. I thought this may have been an easy way to make them digestable in large amounts. Great video series by the way.

    Sean the silver fox

  • You can leech the tannins out of the acorns, either by boiling and changing the water until it boils clear or by putting them into an open weave bag and dumping in a stream for about 12-24 hours.

My nanna used to make acorn bread and used to do the boiling method for small amounts and the stream at the bottom of the garden in autumn was filled with sacks of acorns.

  • @seanmulhall tannins aren't toxic. both coffee and tea contain large amounts of tannin.

  • Nice. I might make a few batches, Plenty of Oaks where I live.

  • I will give this a try on my next trip out! Thanks

  • SPEAK LOUDER!!

  • Try turning the volume up on your PC

  • im from uk to lol what was you cooking on ?

  • Its called a crusader mug its ExArmy, I use them all the time.

  • Another good vid.

Will drying and burning the powder a little extra give you a stronger taste? and have you tried with any other nuts or beans you found in UK?

  • very good for you to show it being done! I have known it was possible for a long time! But never seen it being done!

    Thanks for showing this.
