Kind of interesting how this cover did so well in America while the original version wasn't popular at all in America. American ears must not have been ready for the synth wave yet in '80 and thus the only way to make Daniel Miller's music accessible for Americans was to disco it all up.
They used to play this over the speakers at the tubs in Minneapolis back in the early 80's. Great times for those of us who practiced "safe" sex. Not so good for those who didn't.......
I never thought that terminators were real until I discovered Grace Jones. It's obvious that she's a killer cyborg from the future, and anyone who denies it is probably ALSO a terminator! :-)
yeah she was brave at the time in reiventing hersel with a side of Brit Avant garde... remember the rumours about a joint venture with A Certain Ratio taht would have been awesome to witness
The version by Trent Reznor and Peter Murphy makes this one sound like absolute shit. The difference that real musical talent (Reznor) makes is amazing.
@S4BIO actually i have to admit Grace Jones had some courage to make a different version of this song...i don't go crazy for this version but she had the courage to make a different version. Even if i love Reznor and of course you are right he's absolutely talented, the version he made of this song is pretty much the same of the original made by the nromal with mostly the same arrengements and of course an udated technology, so i can't completely agree with you..
@S4BIO - Dude are you completely high??? Without people like Grace Jones, Trent would still be doing soundtracks and appearing on Ministry albums...Reznor had stated this exact sentiment in several interviews...He was also a HUGE fan of early 1970's progressive rock such as Genesis, Yes and the like...get your history straight.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE VIDEO TO THIS? FROM HER COLLECTION CALLED "ONE MAN SHOW" Many of her videos on these playlists are from that collection BUT NOT W.L.!!! would someone PLEASE REPOST THIS?!! At the end she beats the shit out of all these cymbals til they all fall over. SO BAD ASS you won't believe it!
@PippiClaremont Back when this lp came out she appeared on a spanish speaking show here in the Los Angeles area which turn out to be her performing warm leatherette. It was the same act with the cymbals except she was lip syncing in some studio. I believe it was a promo vid and not something produced in the studio showing the clip.
@barriobajaj well, I've downloaded it from youtube before and imbedded it into my myspace. it was there forever! I have the "one man show" on vhs. I bought it somewhere years ago! Thanks for getting back with me though!! I really appreciate it!
pardon me? this is probably the hottest kind of dance music ever made and definitely Grace's best cover version of them all. it blasts me away every time i hear it. prizeless. timeless. beautifully brutal. a stroke of musicial genious.
Ms Jones did a fine job acting, too -- best thing (some might say only good thing) in the 2nd "Conan the Barbarian" movie w/the future Governor of California.
This tune, a cover of The Normal song, is in reference to the novel "Crash" which David Cronenberg used as the basis of a movie of the same name, is about people sexually aroused by car crashes.
Was this the woman who did the cool Scooter commercials after she starred in the James Bond movie? lol I was just a kid then, but I remember this tall leggy black woman!
@Kaminsky15 : The scooter commercial was for the Honda Elite 150 deluxe with the pop-up headlight. DEVO also did commercials for those. I own one and can't help but to think of those commercials when I'm riding around town... of course, I repainted it in Hunter Green.
I don't see her as a Queen of Pop. I see her more as a Panther of Pop...

There is an actual Grace Jones video of this somewhere. I saw it several times in the Eighties. Anyone?

I was a kid when I saw her in concert in NYC at Bond's Club. She was amazing. Those were the days of the elite night life on NY city.
