I wish people would quit referring to this as an easter egg. You are creating a telnet session to another computer. It works on any OS that has internet access.
1337 is a Word used in games, where the leet( l=1 e=3 e=3 t=7) speak is used, so they write their names for example without any letters but with numbers and so on...
sweet child o mine doesnt start playing till the end, the song that played for most the vid is of of halo after you kill the sentinals for the first time and open the 1st door lol just got done playing it got all the halos except odst
Lmao this is just connecting to anouther server somewhere in the Netherlands. Epic Fail. How can you call that an easter egg? For me easter egg is something that is weird / funny, and IS INCLUDED in Windows CD / DVD
To do this you are connecting to a remote computer. Can you say virus patheway. Just search for star wars ascii in google to find the exact same thing.
I have vista and the only boxes for Telnet that are available at the "widows features" window is "Telnet Client" and "Telnet Server". Is this a common problem?
No, you need to use the telnet server I think, (I don't have a vista but my friend has one, we did telnet server, if for some reason that doesn't work, use the telnet client.)
star wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This isn't an easter egg. This is just something hosted on towel.blinkenlights.nl.

halo soundtrack is the best fucking game track ever
trus3683 1 year ago
Let's see, this works if I open up Terminal.app on my Mac and type
bash> telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
It also works if I ssh into a Solaris server at my school and use its telnet client.
<sarcasm>This is all very confusing. How did Windows XP and Vista get into Mac OS X and Solaris?</sarcasm>

I did this and got it to work and then quickly realised I had wasted 10 mins of my life.

I went to the asciimation site mentioned in the credits page right before the animation... this definitely wasn't an easter egg.
I wouldn't imagine Bill Gates being able to get himself out of the legal mess from putting an ASCII Star Wars in as an easter egg.

This is not really very secret. This has been up for some while now. Telnet just connects to other servers through cmd.
And no, there is no second half to the movie. It was never made.
Mac users can watch it too. :] It's not a strict Windows thing only, as long as you can connect to telnet, you can watch it.
