Every time an interview takes place and an interviewer says "you're jrock/ visual kei/ jmetal" they disagree and say "we are just rock / metal". They USED to be visual kei before they began touring internationally and discarded the costumes. Look, my point in this is I find it somewhat offensive to put them in one of those categories because no one said the Beatles were b-rock or Aerosmith was a-rock. Their nationality should have little to do with the category of music they play

He did this in concert in 2007 in NYC. I don't know why he stopped doing it, but it may have been because he was getting infections? It's called "Fish-hooking" when you rip into your mouth like that.

I'm kind of glad he stopped; I wouldn't want him getting sick from it, and Dir en grey is constantly changing their style and their ways of performing.  He'll probably do something (or already is) even crazier in future concerts. :)

I think it made his performances suffer a bit (after all, it can't be too easy to concentrate on singing will when you're bleeding all over the place - especially from inside the mouth).

The way kyo is/acts and the blood and whatever else he may do onstage, are all just part of the visual experience that you get when you see diru live, its an additive to the sound/music part of what dir en grey does and effectively helps get more of the listeners' senses involved in the whole dir en grey experience.

The more listeners' senses they can stimulate, the stronger and more memorable the experience they leave behind is.

Though not necessary, it's a strong visual stimulant to the crowd.

Though i do love their music, getting that little extra visual always leaves me a little more satisfied.
