0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.8 seconds? They are either really bad at getting good launches with high torque engines (which you can only blame low torque Jap junk which people have been driving) or they take can't shift.. or maybe both.

A 6-speed manual is something new to the states! In European cars, as well as Japanese cars, 6-speed manual transmissions have been used for years. The Yanks are about 20 years behind in technology. @GMCman82 Actually i have owned 2 bro. An 04, and a 05 ACR. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And yes the biggest drawback to this car is it is front wheel drive, other than that these cars are very reliable and average over 30mpg for a car that runs high 12s with a few bolts ons. Oh and maybe some of us arent rich as others. High 30s for a used one cmon! Id rather have a C6 Z06 for that price lol!!! and lets not forget the purpose of both these cars---- SRT8= drag car SRT-4 = rally racing

@rick859 Agree.....these are RT numbers. Maybe these are new cars that are not broken in yet. 0-60 should come in under 5sec. and quarter mile in low 13's.

@matrox I think you're gonna find you will rarely be able to take these either of these vehicles to the limits unless you go to the track a lot...I drive a SRT-8 Chally day to day, gets awful mpg but it's a ball to drive, not only due to it's ridiculous torque but it's sheer style, just makes you feel bad ass with the longgg hood (the car is HUGE compared to a stang, and imo is way more intimidating) but yeah, just depends on what you can afford to drive
these numberes are ratarded . My 2005 mustang GT does 0-60 in less then that. and i hit the 1/4 in 13.7 on my first time at the track ever. I did however look at the receipt and it said 6 seconds to 350 feet whoch pretty much is 0-60 but my launch wasn't good enough but i still did it in 13.7 . how could a car that cost 45K and has twice the engine do worse? either driver was pretty gay or car is shit

I've ran the 0-60 4 times in my 2010 Challenger SRT8 and I've improved my launch each time. My times were:
1st 4.5
2nd 4.4
3rd 4.3
4th 3.9 - 49F & this was the 1st time I heated up my tires before the run.
I was shocked to see the 3.9 but the car really hooked up & was loving the cooler air. I have 1,800 miles on it now and it's getting faster as it breaks in.

@alalal420 You don't do 0-60mph or 1/4 mile on a dyno. Anybody that's ever been to a dyno sesson knows that's not even an option. All my runs were on level ground with little if any wheel spin. I've driven both the auto & manual 11 Mustang GTs. The manual felt faster than my SRT8 but the auto felt slower.
I don't know how accurate the onboard EVIC is but I posted what it reads. 0-60mph in 4.3 is pretty easy to do. Have hit several 4.1s.
That guy clearly can't drive worth shit, my bone stock Magnum R/T 5.7 Hemi ran a 14.1 1/4 mile, and does 0-60 in about 5.6 seconds, there's no way that SRT8 is not much faster than that.

Yes it's heavy, mine was 4,100 lbs on the scales but totally stock with 1,300 miles on it my best 0-60 is in 4.4 sec and 1/4 mile is 12.92@108.7mph. Both those times were done with no wheel spin.
Unless you've driving the SRT8 you can't understand. It drives like a much smaller car. It even feels lighter when you drive then my wife's 2010 Mustang GT.

The only thing that's cool about the Challenger is that it looks great. Other than that, there really isn't anything good about it. Its big, weak, fat, heavy, and is a poor performer. Not to mention Chrysler's laziness it not giving it a cool interior. This car basically is a 2 door charger because Chrysler was to lazy make it more unique; never mind it costs 15 grand more than the Mustang GT and Camaro SS. 2011 Mustang GT CS all the way

I'm not big on American cars in general, but I'll always have a special attachment to this Dodge challenger because of the Dukes of Hazard and the Pontiac Firebird cause of Knight Rider..I grew up in the 80's watching shows like those..They don't make them like they used to.

The current challenger srt8 can beat them all and none of those can seat five.
It doesn't matter if it's auto or manual, Edmunds sucks. They always get slower times than motor trend, car and driver, etc. on every car they test, if you haven't noticed.

Why defend it? I mean come on 48,000 not including tax? I haven't found a single SRT-8 in Houston,Dallas, San Antonio, or Shreveport. I'm sure there are some lurking around, but everyone i know and have seen run R/T. 48k you could buy a vette. Hence, if the majority are running the R/T mustang owners really have nothing to fear
well, Our SRT/8 Challenger can hit 60 quicker than 5.5, we had 5 sec' dead on the clock, with 108 mph over standing 1/4 with its 6 speed manual, traction controls off, with a clean launch
The manual is the ONLY way to go with the Challenger. If I could, I'd bump the power up to maybe 470-500 bhp but keep it naturally aspirated. One of the best looking/sounding cars today in my opinion. Interior not so much but oh well.
I'm so happy that muscle cars made their way back, because it means that in 5 years when I have the money to buy one, they won't be as hard to find or in as bad condition as the older ones.

Honestly, I'm not all in the technical aspects of this with regard to limited slip differential and engines and what not, but American cars are the most well designed hands down in terms of look. This car is gorgeous and it sounds bad ass. I'll admit, German cars are beautiful too but their reliability sucks ass and American car companies are actually making some of the best cars in their history now. Japanese cars are ugly as anything, nuff said. I love muscle cars.
why is that american manufacturers, with regard to performance cars, always use massive capacity engines yet never seem to squeeze all the potential out of them? they just lack the pace of the euro cars... also, the cars always seem to bounce around like they are on stilts... i think they could learn something from us europeans. however, that car looks and sounds utterly fantastic. just because of that, i would have one :P i cant think of anyting that beats the presence of a muscle car...

The SRT8 pulls 0-60 in 4.5 with AUTO tranny, and pulls the best skidpad and slalom of any of the GT, GT500, or SS cars...Edmunds is such a crappy testing group, i cant stand their videos, lol
The thing is though, the Japanese market has came as far as it can really go. American cars have came such a long way in such a short time. Honestly if I was shopping for a new car, it would definately be American, and nothing but. Because for every import now, American automakers have a direct competitor from low in sub compacts, mid/full size pick ups, and high end sport sedans/cars.

2 things. carbs stopped in the 70's and the audi may make alot of hp, but it only makes 315 pounds of torque and gets worse gas miles. here are the specs on both cars idiot

A 6-speed manual is something new to the states! In European cars, as well as Japanese cars, 6-speed manual transmissions have been used for years. The Yanks are about 20 years behind in technology. @GMCman82 Actually i have owned 2 bro. An 04, and a 05 ACR. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And yes the biggest drawback to this car is it is front wheel drive, other than that these cars are very reliable and average over 30mpg for a car that runs high 12s with a few bolts ons. Oh and maybe some of us arent rich as others. High 30s for a used one cmon! Id rather have a C6 Z06 for that price lol!!! and lets not forget the purpose of both these cars---- SRT8= drag car SRT-4 = rally racing

@matrox I think you're gonna find you will rarely be able to take these either of these vehicles to the limits unless you go to the track a lot...I drive a SRT-8 Chally day to day, gets awful mpg but it's a ball to drive, not only due to it's ridiculous torque but it's sheer style, just makes you feel bad ass with the longgg hood (the car is HUGE compared to a stang, and imo is way more intimidating) but yeah, just depends on what you can afford to drive

these numberes are ratarded . My 2005 mustang GT does 0-60 in less then that. and i hit the 1/4 in 13.7 on my first time at the track ever. I did however look at the receipt and it said 6 seconds to 350 feet whoch pretty much is 0-60 but my launch wasn't good enough but i still did it in 13.7 . how could a car that cost 45K and has twice the engine do worse? either driver was pretty gay or car is shit

I've ran the 0-60 4 times in my 2010 Challenger SRT8 and I've improved my launch each time. My times were:
1st 4.5
2nd 4.4
3rd 4.3
4th 3.9 - 49F & this was the 1st time I heated up my tires before the run.
I was shocked to see the 3.9 but the car really hooked up & was loving the cooler air. I have 1,800 miles on it now and it's getting faster as it breaks in.

@alalal420 You don't do 0-60mph or 1/4 mile on a dyno. Anybody that's ever been to a dyno sesson knows that's not even an option. All my runs were on level ground with little if any wheel spin. I've driven both the auto & manual 11 Mustang GTs. The manual felt faster than my SRT8 but the auto felt slower.
I don't know how accurate the onboard EVIC is but I posted what it reads. 0-60mph in 4.3 is pretty easy to do. Have hit several 4.1s.

Yes it's heavy, mine was 4,100 lbs on the scales but totally stock with 1,300 miles on it my best 0-60 is in 4.4 sec and 1/4 mile is 12.92@108.7mph. Both those times were done with no wheel spin.
Unless you've driving the SRT8 you can't understand. It drives like a much smaller car. It even feels lighter when you drive then my wife's 2010 Mustang GT.

The only thing that's cool about the Challenger is that it looks great. Other than that, there really isn't anything good about it. Its big, weak, fat, heavy, and is a poor performer. Not to mention Chrysler's laziness it not giving it a cool interior. This car basically is a 2 door charger because Chrysler was to lazy make it more unique; never mind it costs 15 grand more than the Mustang GT and Camaro SS. 2011 Mustang GT CS all the way

The manual is the ONLY way to go with the Challenger. If I could, I'd bump the power up to maybe 470-500 bhp but keep it naturally aspirated. One of the best looking/sounding cars today in my opinion. Interior not so much but oh well.

Honestly, I'm not all in the technical aspects of this with regard to limited slip differential and engines and what not, but American cars are the most well designed hands down in terms of look. This car is gorgeous and it sounds bad ass. I'll admit, German cars are beautiful too but their reliability sucks ass and American car companies are actually making some of the best cars in their history now. Japanese cars are ugly as anything, nuff said. I love muscle cars.

it took over 1000 patents from all over the world spanning over 500 years to develop the first combustion engine. so do say it was invented by a European is incorrect it was a joint effort from many civilizations and shouldn't be credited to just one. same goes for the others you've listed.

2 things. carbs stopped in the 70's and the audi may make alot of hp, but it only makes 315 pounds of torque and gets worse gas miles. here are the specs on both cars idiot
6.1 L hemi = 425 hp, 420 f/lbs torque, 14 mpg city/22 highway
