  • I am so touched by your video I'm sure if they were here they would love it I thank you for illustrating this song meant for my 2nd cousin Buddy Holly thank you so much

  • I hate when the advertisement wont load.

  • I could only imagine great things from these guys had they been alive in modern day...They were corner stone in the rock and roll movement and it's truly sad that they died far too soon.

  • Used to hate this song because of the Stones trashing, that part still makes me a tad upset. Because the point of Rock n' Roll was the freedom of it, but McClean makes it sound like it's an exclusive American thing, but in the end it's an amazing song. Makes me feel good.

  • Song still makes me cry when I hear it...as much as the rest of the history it tells happens, you also get most of all, the love Mclean had for Buddy Holly...which makes me cry hardest.

  • wow, history lesson in a song. it's beautiful.

  • ahhh wats at 6:07

  • classic of all classcs .. such a singalong song in clubs with me mates

  • great song

  • Best song and one of the best videos I have ever see to portray it thank you

  • The whole "moss/rolling stone" proverb is referenced in Buddy's "Early In The Morning" lyrics.

  • Moving to say the least

  • i think this might be the first song i ever knew all the words to... so good. so classic. even at the age of 6 or 7 i loved this song and never stopped 20 years later. :)

oh and i gotta give a shout out to the Pabst Blue Ribbon pic. ---> PBR FTW!!

  • R.I.P. buddy

  • I just want to give kudos to whoever put this together, i just happened to run across this video and to be honest it really made my night. I'm only 20 but I'm familiar with all the artists of this period, i had no idea this song was about such a tragedy. I don't think I will ever listen to this song the same again. RIP Buddy Holley, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper. Your are truly missed even today

  • hmm Waylon Jennings lost the coin flip? Other than that, nice job with the video.

  • A Not So Long Time Ago - I Can Still Remember How That Call Of Duty Used To Make Me Smile.

And I Knew If I Had My Chance, I Would Make Those Players Die

And Maybe They'd Be Dead For A While

But Modern Warfare 2 Made Me Shiver, With Every Bullet I'd Deliver

That Shit On The Trailers, I Couldn't Take One More Look

I Can't Remember If I Cried When I Read About No Rank Ded Servers

But Something Touched Me Deep Inside, The Day Call of Duty Died.

Bye Bye u shitty ass game, id rather play bf3 ALL DAY

  • 27 people have no soul at all and can't see the beauty in the song as well as the sorrow.

  • Music is indeed, pretty fucking dead.

  • RIP Bert Jansch. Acoustic folk legend

  • steve jobs died :(

  • @cornycheck I can't express how much i think your'e stupid for writing this irrelevant announcement on this beautiful song... Please, think before you write.

  • @lampyish fuck you asshole i thought people would like to know. Do you think from saying "Steve Jobs is dead" in a music video's comment box makes them a person who doesn't like the song?

  • @cornycheck That don't belong here. I read the newspaper and have a TV.

  • Love this song. Reminds me of my father's mad guitar skills. He taught me this and I heard the recording later.

  • Now i'm all damn depressed

  • sounds so happy !

  • still listening in 2011!!!! big thanks to me dad who played this when i was young

  • ritchie valens :(

  • This is one of the most powerful songs. Explains so much about The Untied States and a lot of its musicians. Unbelievably great song.

  • Don McLean.

  • Wow. ive never known how touching and amazing this song was. those 25 terrorists who disliked this can go fuck themselves. whoever made this song knows how to make a blind man see.

  • 25 people hate great music....

  • Rick...

  • Every time I listen this song, it reminds me that tragedy. Thanks for posting, sure the music lovers must be grateful too.

  • love this song

  • I didnt Realize this song was so deep. My Props to you MclLean

  • If you like this song, please listen to some of Don's other stuff- Vincent, Everybody Loves Me Baby, Mother Nature, Crossroads, all off American Pie the album. Which is awesome.

  • If he had been driving another brand of car, where would he have gone and what would he have done? Would he have driven his Dodge to "the lodge"? Would he have driven his Ford to Norway to see the fjords? Would he have driven his Mercedes with a bunch of ladies? Would he have driven his Volkswagen to go fight a dragon? Would he have driven his Cadillac to the Australian outback? LOL!

  • And was a surprise to me that the song talking about Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson death... WOW!!! I just read the lyric and this man is a true poet!!! AWESOME LYRIC!!! FOR AWESOME!!! WONDERFUL SONG!!!, Good Job!!!, Thank you very much for posting!!!

  • I can't explain how I feel when I hear this song, I always liked too but today I find out who sing the song that's so special to me, because is a Awesome song to me, and i not know the of the song, but always i feel like a sad feeling when i hear this song for the way that he sing!, what is really right, because i didn't know the story behind this song until recently, but since I started listening to music in English I have always heard, and always I really like it too!!!

  • The day Guitar Hero died...

  • Comment removed

  • there all dieing. mj. lenon, hendrix, holly, fredy, damn it

  • I can never hear this song again after seeing The saga begins.

  • I hate when people call this song "American Pie"... It's a disgrace...

  • @Tacticallinkage You do realize that's the name don mclean gave to it

  • @NarutosButterfly As a subtitle I thought. On all the records that I have on my computer, it's named The Day The Music Died (American Pie) Otherwise, I didn't know.

  • @Tacticallinkage it's the name of the song?

  • A lot of the greats die to early

    John Lennon

    Buddy Holly

    Hank Williams (sr)

    and many more!

  • music dies but becomes reborn

  • lenin no lennon

  • how big would have buddy been? No telling..

  • @coolhanddean I saw Waylon Jennings interviewed (did you know he was a Cricket?), he was asked how well Buddy would have gone with the changes. He answered that Buddy would have made it, that "he was very smart".

  • Well.

    He ain't lying.

  • alle 24 denen das Lied ned gefällt sind schwul

  • Yeah, we ALL miss the pilot! (who, BTW, was "at fault") Yes 4 people died, but one of them was not a musician!

  • @Chaosinspace2 You are sadly mistaken. They are both amazing musicians but John Lennon wouldn't have been succesful if it wasnt for Buddy Holly. Buddy Holly influenced John Lennon and all of The Beatles. In fact, The Beatles chose their name as a tribute to The Crickets. Without Buddy Holly, there would be no John Lennon. The day the music died was indeed Febuary 3rd, 1959. RIP to both men.

  • Well, whatever the case is with the coin toss, after it was tossed and it was decided who was flying and who was gonna freeze their ass on the bus, it was Waylon who said to Buddy, "I hope your plane crashes" after Buddy told him, "I hope you freeze ur ass off!" It was all in jest, but after the crash, Waylon was mortified and THAT's why he couldn't talk about it for years.

  • You mean John (Winston) Ono Lennon, not Yoko.

  • lennon dieing was the day the real music died

  • Fantastic my friend, Well done. I've known of this song for ages but never knew all of these references. Thank you very much.

  • A LONG LONG TIME AGO

    IN A GALAXY FAR AWAY

  • @AnOnlinePersona Not now. not now.

  • Just watched La Bamba

  • Thanks to my history class, i know so many influential songs, such as this one!

    Thanks, history class :P

  • i dont think i can say the right words to say how good of a job you have done on this ...

well done to whom it my concern..

  • Just a slight correct to the video clip towards the end. Waylon Jennings didn't lose his seat to the coin toss. Buddy Holly made Waylon give up his seat to The Big Bopper who had a cold and needed to see a doctor early the next day so he could sing the next night. It was Tommy Allsup who lost the coin flip to Ritchie Vallens.

  • Thank you. Now i know the story behind. :(

  • I feel bad for Everyone that died and Buddy Holly's wife, to have your husband die and then lose your child. Talk about bad fortune (not trying to be funny) R.I.P. Buddy, Ritchie, and TBB, also to Holly's baby.

  • so is bob Dylan, Moss?

  • @chaoinspace2 I'm sorry but I was born in 1995. Can you give me some information on what happened in December 8th 1980 ?

  • @valkata107 The day John Winston Yoko Lennon died. He was murderd by Mark David Chapman. Mark had asked John for an auto graph moments before. John and his wife Yoko Ono pulled up to their apartment after a day at the recording studio. As they got in the front door, Mark said, " Mr. Lennon?" and he shot JOhn Lennon about five times in the back. John fell to the floor in a pool of blood as his wife screamed in terror. John was rushed to the hospital but he never made it in alive.

  • @chaoinspace2 Thank you friend.

  • @chaoinspace2 john bonham?

  • @guitarsoupify John Lennon.

  • @chaoinspace2 No way man... real music died when Buddy Holly died... plain and simple.. I know it's a matter of opinion... but I gotta agree with the "critics" and "experts" for once.. Buddy Holly changed music...

  • @chaoinspace2 no. that"s just when it was buried.

  • @chaoinspace2 on August 25th, 2001 was when it was officially clear music died

  • @chaoinspace2 John <3

  • @chaoinspace2 Naw, it was the day he married Yoko Ono. Or at least, that's when the music caught cancer...

  • im just curious? who is supposed to be the jester in this song?

  • @xEB0NYR0SEx Bob Dylan.

  • @chaoinspace2 Thanks :)

  • @xEB0NYR0SEx bob dylan

  • @D3V1NS1MMS97 then go back to your music about gangs and killing there wives we don't care just leave us alone

  • I read on this website, that there was gun found at the plane crash. & it belonged to Buddy. But there were rumors that said the pilot was shot. &'that perhaps Richardson survived the plane crash and was trying to get help. But Dr. Bill Bass took X-rays of the body and found nothing to support those theories. Richardson had massive fractures from head to toe &'he died immediately.

:( Rip Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, &'J.P Richardson! &'thanks to Don McLean for making this INCREDIBLE song. /:

  • I heard the American Pie was the name of the plane.

  • great song!!!

  • The 'after the crash, she had a miscarriage' almost made me scream out in pain for her. Imagine losing your husband, and then his baby - the only thing you could have possibly held on to as a part of him. Oh vey, now I'm almost hysterical with tears

  • @bethie777 imagine if that baby was born he would have taken after his dad im only 14 and i love buddys music

  • Beautiful job of capturing the confusion, ambiguity, yet beautiful truths of the time covered in McLean's historical masterpiece. Many thanks!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!

  • miss american pie is the united states as a whole

  • this song reminds me of we did'nt start the fire

  • i love this song

  • so either McLean is a lyrical genius, or we have misinterpreted his music, greatly.

  • I'm actually taking a class on the history of rock, we devoted two days just to studying this song, alot of interesting references and possible interpretations of the lyrics, the "Jester" mentioned more than once supposedly refferences Bob Dylan, and the King he played for and stole the crown from reffered to Elvis... at least we think.

  • does the song from doom 2 "bye bye american pie" have anything to do with this song?

  • okay great, more then great vid, but waylon jennings had nothing to do with a coin flip , it was tommy allsup

  • richtig toller song!!

  • Wow... I had no idea

  • thanks!
