Are USA people able to participate in the AMD FX Cashback action? Here in Germany etc. we get EUR 2.50 back per core if we buy/bought a bulldozer between Dec 5 2011 and feb 29 2012... I think I'll save up and get the 8-core (i currently have the 4100 quad core so i get 10€ back for that)
@Maxxarcade Thats good stuff, i still use it a lot but you should look at Tuniq TX-2. Its cheaper, you get MUCH more then the little syringe of AS5, its actually slightly better at heat conductivity, and because its not based off of a metal, it wont conduct electricity!
With my Hyper 212+ cooler, the spring loaded screws did not stop, the next time I removed the cooler, the retention bolts came off with the screws, one of the retention bolts ended up having partially stripped threads.
@TheMrgeekmania I'd have to get out the receipts to be sure, but the current value is probably around $1,200 for the PC itself. The monitor was another $1,200 on top of that.
Lol the computer in my room has like a 5watt power supply and I used to have an even older computer that I used, I can't do a lot in the means of improving although there is no point, it's still fun!
@babyvampire56 Those are good chips. I have an E5500 in one of my workshop computers that I run a bit overclocked with an aftermarket cooler. They can't really compete with Sandy bridge or some of the other newer chips though.
what rev of this board do you have 1.0 or 1.1 i just got it and its a 1.1 i see a diffreance in flash memeoy type as mine is winbond 25q32bv and gigabyte bios update only shows f5 bios for rev 1.0 any idea if it safe for rev 1.1 any one? thanx agian
i just built a rig for my brother and newegg had a special on black friday for OEM hd 4890's for 69.99 which is a steal considering they're between a 5830 and a 5850 in power, but it was defective so i had to RMA it :( ... actually ordered 2, another for my step brother's rig but his is working fine, go figure.
@Maxxarcade what version? is it overclocked? because the 500w corsair in my brothers' rig has no problem running the 4890 (while it was functioning) even though that card uses an ass of power, like 190w rated
@psychoclown420 I think it is stock overclocked a bit. I can't remember which one it is, but it's the Gigabyte with 3 80mm fans. This PSU does have enough wattage, it just runs too hot.
@Maxxarcade i don't that would be too big of a deal.. corsair is pretty top notch as far as quality etc, plus yours is supposed to be crossfire certified i think? Either way i imagine it'll get warm anyways, most PSU's tend to stay warm
@TheGenesisfreak I don't play games, so I can't really recommend much LOL. You can check the reviews on a few cards and see how they are running for whatever games you want to play.
@Maxxarcade Man, That's Crazy one Of the most watched computer builders Doesn't Even Game.... Well That's a Shame But We all have our hobbies (Building computers Seems very Fun To do :D)
@TheGenesisfreak I recommend you get a differnt card then that. Get a HD 6850 or a 6870 it's a bit more expensive but you get more bang for your buck :)
Very nice video! I'd love to upgrade the CPU in my pc ,but I think it might be better just to buy another system or find someone else's rig to work with. But be careful about that power supply! I've blown a board with a bad power supply...
@chanrate They specify 1.5v, and I tried going up to about 1.6 with little effect. I might still give it another shot this weekend. Increasing the North Bridge voltage also seemed to help, but it still fails at test 7 in Memtest86+.
i would reinstall windows cos memtest passing, but windows not loading(@rated speed of memory), maybe new procesor and bios confused old instalation of windows.
I hear ya on that. I want to upgrade to the ivy bridge, from my e8400, but that would require a new mobo, memory, and windows. So what i did was just purchase a new gpu and upgrade to a SSD for the time being. Running really smooth, so I can't complain.
@Treasurefan02 That's a good chip actually. In my workshop I have a little E5500 overclocked to 3.64Ghz at stock voltage, and it rips through WinXP with 4GB RAM. I'm sure the E8400 would be even better. Never tried to overclock one of those though.
Overclocking this chip wasn't too bad. I managed to get to 4.0 Ghz at 1.3 volts using a zalman cooler (Stepping A, revision E0 on an asus p5q pro). Gained 1.0 Ghz =)
I get 35-40 degrees idle, 55-60 load. It's definitely still a beast, but I'm a power whore and want more =D
@Treasurefan02 Nice, 1Ghz seems to be a common overclock for a lot of the Core series chips. I run my E2160 in my system at work at 2.8 Ghz (vs.1.8 stock), and that's also at normal voltage. I've heard of people pushing it to 3.2 with a voltage increase, but I'd rather keep it stable since it's my work machine.
I was just thinking of the newer 212+ Evo when you mentioned those copper heatpipe contact area. The new one looks like a nice improvement. Gezz this makes me want to take mine off and check the thermal paste pattern on the CPU too! Lol socket 7 trying to pry the heatsink clip off was always fun. Nice I hope the 8 cores work out with your HD video editing.
@xMaGiCxJTAGx Make sure your board supports it, and update your BIOS first like I forgot to do :-)
If you don't have a board that will handle it already, I'd just go to an i5 or i7 platform TBH. Though sometimes I wonder how it will perform after some revisions, and when software catches up with the architecture.
@Maxxarcade Anyway thanks for all the great videos which have kept me intertained, maybe you could give me a few tips on cable management as I find it the hardest part of a pc build. thanks
Dont oversize your power supply too much. 520w for that spec pc is fine. 550w comfortable powered an i7 920 @ 3.8ghz and gtx 465. 750w comfortably powers the i7 920 @ 4ghz with 2x gtx 465 video cards in SLI. Of course this is with a good quality supply from Antec that can supply its rated current almost indefinitely.
Haven't you had any problem with the hyper master heatsink because for me it was a huge pain to install it the spring screw screwed in butter because the bolt underneath turned with it, here the video /watch?v=HZ0cW44MuD0&list=UU6MRw71GRJMhdKOPc0ty9ZA
@222Panther222 You just need to get the standoffs tightened up. They give you a little socket that can be used with a Philips screwdriver, but I still prefer to use a small wrench. Just make sure the plastic washers are in place on both parts, so you don't scratch the board if the standoff spins.
@Maxxarcade Alright thanks for the response, i was wondering if i did mount the cooler normally as it should, it is well installed however they didn't include any type of plastic or nylon washers in the box for the front and back plate. I'll replace it for the Noctua nh-d14 or a nh-u12p since the antec three hundred is a very small case. Thanks again!
Wow, even the CPU you did have before is pretty decent! My WEI is only 5.9, with 7.1 for the CPU, RAM, and graphics card. My laptops use them; however for my desktops I prefer Intel, my i7 2600 is still fast.
@nintendonick Ya my next rig will probably be an i7, or whatever is new when I go to upgrade. That is unless AMD makes revisions to the FX that make it more competitive.
Is it sad that my PC has all scores in performance at 7 but my hard disk score is 5.7
