All due respect, Larry, but why wouldn't you just turn those threads. Think of all the money you'd save on dies!!! Especially for those freaky threads, like 1/2"-36.
wow my dad and uncle tought many things about gunsmithig but didnt tell me how to make gun screw from scracth! thak you very much for the advise ile go put it to some good use!!
@JitseenGunsmith1 Should have one of the first things they taught you, pretty basic stuff given to the apprentices.
What should have been done before slotting, is to screw in to the gun tight then align and cut the slot usually with a file or slit saw. Remove screw and finish off slot. Screw back in and file to shape on contours.
If you have a lathe, you don't need the die. And if you do have the die, you can do the same process on a good quality drill press. You will need a good bench vise, a steady hand, and take your time.
Afghans can make an entire Enfield rifle and SMG's with a improvised vise and an assortment of files and drill bits. Using steel bolts and axles from a car.
Thankyou for bringing these videos, I've learn't so much from cleaning arifle correctly to some of the more complicated videos.
Having said that, you make everything look so easy, but I know it isn't.
You are one very skilled man; well done.
Larry, if possible could you show a video of how to repair a bolt face. Sometimes a hot load will break the primer and pit the bolt face, so I'd like to know how you would repair a rifle bolt in such a condition.
somone needs to make a dvd series of this guy XD

But where do you get the odd ball threading die?

Is it better to use a die or a lathe?
AldoSchmedack 2 years ago
"So you still have to have the die"
A threading tool and some know how will work too
