  • In a pinch I've also set up on the ground _on top_ of my closed cell foam pad, which gave me both insulation and abrasion resistance. I think CCF pads win over air mats, especially when it comes to dependable survival use. Bulky but puncture proof and much less internal convection.

  • @lucash1980 agreed... but when you can use an air mattress..I opt for it.. I would not use the blackbirds in a survival for any reason..just to light weight in my opinion.. now DD makes a great one with waterproof shells I would grab in a second and is in the survival bag compared to camping bag..

  • Nice video!

    I noticed your survival/go-to-ground comment at 5:03

I understand your concerns about the durability of the 1.1 and 1.7 oz BB in a survival situation. If you are forced to set up on the ground, a ground cloth (a plastic drop sheet or piece of Tyvek) would be just fine, if not better, than a heavier coated outer shell. 1. It is disposable/replaceable abrasion protection and 2. It is a multi-use item. They make a great under-hammock mat to stand on while changing etc..etc..
