I just dropped 5000 dollars to repair a leak on a tile roof. Apparently in California code, they don't tar the underlayment . After 15 years or so the elements, rain, sun and wind jack up the roof. I will consider learning to lay down the good stuff since I got 4 properties. Your email is the the UK ?
No doubt it looks good , durable and all that, however it looks super very complicated to install, needs awful longer time to install with superbly skilled installers = super expensive ? Is it ?
@tanhelmet You couldnt be more wrong. EPDM is quick and easy to install, its far more superior than Felt etc, its all Cold lay. 2 Adhesives pirmarily used to lay the EPDM, Bonding and Waterbase Adhesive. If you want information on a Training Course then give me a call as we are a national Firestone Training Centre. Also check out our new site for all your supplies.
@RenaissanceBoy Typically Firestone products are only sold to those with a valid applicator's license, which are controlled by Firestone and difficult to get as a result. You will likely be unable to purchase any products unless you have an applicatorship from Firestone.
@legend3061 Money is the biggest reason. Asphalt systems are cheaper. Gravel acts as a ballast, and can protect the roof from the sun.
There's a big problem with this video: no fall protection or fire safety.
@TheNationalRoofing Firestone EPDM isnt afected by UV light. And becoming a trained installer is easy. We are a national Firestone Training centre. roofingwarehouse.co.uk - our telephone number is there...
truly beautiful work. Can you tell me though, if this stuff exists, why do some people use bitumen paper or tar and gravel with a torch? what would the advantage of that be? why do some roofs have gravel?
Our company has been importing and distributing Firestone epdm for the last ten years, and the product is growing in popularity. I think that most flat roofs will eventually covered in this product
I could be mistaken, but at 1:51 these guys appeared to be using water borne adhesive on a vertical surface. While it is later shown that they're wrapping the membrane up onto the horizontal surface, they still should have used solvent borne adhesive on the vertical surface, given the water borne glue's tendency to soften and slide when hot.
That looks good. I install EPDM roofs myself, and with quite the same procedures! That is assuming you went up the slope and under those ceramic (?) shingles 6" or so. You do use the cleaning scour pads in a different way from me, that is I like the idea of using them to apply your seam adhesive on those long stretches! But in those corners I really do prefer to use a natural fibre bristled brush to get the glue -everywhere-.
Anyways, looking good, like the video. And 'like'd the video!
Nice job! I am building a small place and will go with this type of roofing for my flat roof. This makes me ALMOST want to do it my self. But that little extra know how goes a long way when installing a roof that I will live with for 30+ years. Place is going to 14x30. Thanks for posting
Coverstrip on the laps..why not seam tape.
