Really nice, Chris! I think the most important thing you said to her was to use Firefox instead of IE. You should install a software or something on the computers that checks if they tries to use IE. If the do, a picture of an angry Mikey with a sledgehammer in his hands pops up with a big WARNING text. That'd be awesome lol.
Those are some really good tips. I could have avoided some expensive repairs wife's laptop. Although, if you shop around you can buy a new power adaptors from Hong Kong for $20 or so, for most laptop models.
i like watching this vid for the geek group tell help out the not so fortunate. to me is a great thing to see. geek group u r awsome. oh yh the laptop u gave to that person what were the specs on the laptop.
I once closed my old laptop and put it in its bag. Hours later I found it crashed and didn't shut down...So yeh, it was very hot, the heat sync glue melted and it fell off the processor. Fun times
hahah me too :) everyone is so serious about it, i take it as funny and i make fun of these guys "don't hate it for the first week" "if you open it up, you let the magic out" haha
your doing great work guys, I wish we had something like the geekgroup in the Netherlands. You inspire kids who don't know yet what they want to be when they grow older.
It would be a great program to make it possible for schools around the USA to order prototypes at the geekgroup. Prototypes designed by school kids. A thing that would be far too expensive for local schools. If you had a campus you could make a great summer camp for kids and parents with lots of fun educational stuff.
Good job Chris! I think the most important you said was to use Firefox. You should install a sniffing software or something to ensure noone tries to use IE. If they try to install it, a picture of an angry Mikey holding on to a sledgehammer appears with a big warningtext.... that'd be awesome ,lol.
I haven't used IE for several years. Firefox pwns it in every way imaginable. lolzz We should set up a mass distribution of Firefox and mass removal of IE for the world. It would make so many people happier. :D
Yes and dust accumulating in laptop heatsinks and fans are a big realibility issue... some laptops are really poorly designed for aftermarket service, sometimes disassembling them for heatsink cleaning is very tricky and time consuming... Strangely some cheaper price laptops, like the Acer ones, are more esay to work on than certain famous brand very expensive laptops...
The world needs more people like Chris

I have a laptop and I hurt that if it's plugged in to power and turned on when the battery is in it, the battery may leak. May that really occur?

No, you're fine. Unless something is *really* wrong with it you should be able to use it while plugged in all the time.

When you know what you are doing the "magic" MoBo is a pretty interesting "thing" to play with.
IBM docking stations are truly work-of-art, it is sad that they are proprietary. The kid looks a bit lost with that much of info in one blow.

This is why I love The Geek Group. Aside from all the cool videos they produce, they help out other people and promote learning.
