One of Smith's first recordings under the label was Anderon's "Once a Day." It was soon chosen to be her debut single, and was released in August of 1964. By November the song reached #1, staying for eight weeks at the top of Billboard's country chart[4] and remaining on the charts for 28 weeks altogether, making Smith an overnight country star
and Connie still sings with husband Marty Stuart They often perform and write songs together, and have written over 30 songs.
Connie definately was/is one of Country's GR8 country music legends, like Dottie West, Jeanne Pruett, etc. IMHO. May their songs live on forever and a day! :-)
I saw Connie in concert at the Plant City Strawberry Festival a few years ago. Does anybody know who her husband is? If you guessed Marty Stuart your right. Nice couple thats for sure.
How is it Connie Smith made all this great music for over 20 years and never had a Top 100 hit?
Odd really-but if she'd made the single of One day at a time instead of Marilyn Sellers would she have had the hit? Ditto her near namesake who charted with Help me make it thru the night?
you need to yak with the great Ralph Emmery, i think he would know , of all persons . i do belive "once a day" was a "1" hit in 1964(september)for Connie Smith,
Connie had quite a few number one hits from 1965 to 1971, sadly the sorry Country Music Assoc refuses to acknolwedge REAL Country superstars! Connie Smith was however named number 7 of the top 40 women in Country music. The younger girl singers should eat their hearts out. Connie as Dolly Parton said is "Just Simply the Best"!!
Connie left the music business to raise her children. She has had over 40 albums. She had quite a few number 1 hits before she retired to raise her family.
Gosh! She sure was and still is a beautiful woman with a great voice. That Marty Stuart! sure is one lucky fellow.......sheesh!

Connie is one of county's best female vocalist - ever! Like the late great Dottie West she is very under rated.
Thanks for the clip!
