@rsingd Not this synth, but the more complex one in my other video, The Music From Outer Space "Soundlab" can be controlled with a keyboard if you have a midi2CV converter.
Well, if you ever want to build your own analog synthesizer this project is a great first build. Other than that, its purpose it to make weird sounds, in fact this project is called the WSG, or Weird Sound Generator. I suppose you could use it for SFX or something.
@SteveShivik I think it mainly exists to get people interested in DIY analog synths. The Mini-Synth from the same company is a little more serious. or the PAiA Fatman which is a great synth but more expensive.
So how exactly do you build it? I'd like to buy one, but I'm really confused how one goes through the process of putting the whole thing together. Yes, I am a noob.
in the kit you recieve everything you need (pcb, panel, pots, switches, cabinet...)? i have never done anything DIY and i have 0 knowlegde but i wanna start with this proyect, although first i will read some of the books recommended on the MFOS web, i hope with that i am able to build this, and in a future start building modules in order to increase my modular system...
Its not hard at all. I had very little experience when I built it. the kit includes everyting except the cabinet and front panel. You can buy a premade panel on the MFOS website but they are expensive. I just used a piece of scrap metal and drilled holes into it using the template provided on the website. If you have no experience this project is definitely possible. If you are still unsure about your abilities you can always start with something simpler/cheaper like an effects pedal kit.
Today mine is a double Soundlab with double micro S&H circuits included, but the samples on MFOS web page are generated by one single Soundlab unit (the first i made). Don't worry man, your Soundlab will rock, i promise :)
Yes, I got the complete kit and made the enclosure myself. So are you gonna tell me if your soundlab is the one with all the soundclips on MFOS? are you Paolo Ferrari? Cuz those clips are part of the reason I am building one now.
Well, considering the kit costs about $100, and it takes close to 10 hours to build one I don't think that's gonna happen. I didn't have much electronics knowledge when I built mine. The only thing I build before this was a guitar pedal... the only skill involved is soldering, the rest is painting by numbers.
ME WANT THIS!!!!!

... Yes Ian, those samples are mine :)
I'm delighted you like them! The Soundlab is a great synth, you will love it! Happy building... and YouTube a demo a.s.a.p., ciao.

Does your sound lab have any mods? Im gonna be disappointed if mine sounds nothing like yours does :)

one last question, any suggestions for a cheap CV converter for the sound lab? I found one that looks good called Midimplant.
rabidmongoose51 2 years ago
I saw that product, very small one (smd components).
In case see also Paia (American Company) or see maybe Doepfer (German Company)... I have to think about Midi-CV converters in the next future.

Did you purchased the Kit, components included?
